2016-2017 University of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I guess this means that UW is sending out updates as they get through people? They're not releasing in waves? Still no news (IS) but I don't know if that's because I'm on hold or they haven't gotten to me yet

UW screens applicants with high stats first and recipient of application, but seems to send out notification pretty quickly after they screen you application.

I was complete in late July and haven't heard anything. Is that weird? Their portal doesn't really explicitly tell you where you're at, either.

I am also OOS and I got my verification Email from them a day after my AMCAS was verified and a secondary invite 2 days after the verification Email. I was verified on August 12. So maybe you should give them a call. But it seems like this whole process is not very linear so I have no idea how it works.

Thanks for the reply. I called them yesterday and they sent me an email a month and a half ago that got put into my spam folder. I use gmail and I found out the same thing happened to my University of Minnesota secondary invite. I should not have waited so long to contact them but to be honest, I am surprised that it, along with another secondary invite, got put in my spam folder.

I have a 514 MCAT and 3.6 GPA, is that low enough that you think they haven't gotten to me? Seems intense....

I've mostly seen people with Mcats around 520 and 3.8 get any movement from UW. I have similar stats as you and haven't heard anything from UW. I submitted around Mid-July for reference.

Oh okay that makes me feel way better. The waiting game continues then!

did anyone else from IS take a long time for your letters to be verified? i had to call them this past friday and tell them that my secondary still wasnt processed

reading Spongebob's post about being rejected with such high stats.....waiting for my rejection

Did y'all hear through the portal or email? Also for anyone that hasn't heard yet...what does your portal look like?

How are you an in-state applicant to both Wisconsin and Minnesota? Just curious, I didn't think you could claim "dual-residency".

There are ways. eg: Graduate high school in WI and have parents still working there. Perhaps you are confusing residency for tuition purposes with actual dual-residency. It explicitly states on the application that the AMCAS residency stated is not what is considered for WI.

I live in MN, but qualify for "resident status for tuition purposes" in WI because I graduated from HS there and my mom still lives there.

II yesterday 9\12!

OOS LizzyM ~74, but some instate ties and unique ECs that I'm guessing they liked. Excited to interview here, heard great things about the school!

I was complete in early August.

Rejected. OOS. Really liked UW's integration of Public Health into the Medical curriculum but I guess it just wasn't meant to be 🙁. Best of luck to everyone else!

So I realized I submitted five individual letters of rec to this school. They meet the requirements, but I'm wondering if I should call admissions to tell them which four letters to consider, if they care about that. I didn't see it explicitly stated that you can or can't send more than four. Anybody know?

They also apparently haven't been processed yet so I'm wondering if I should call them about that as well.

Late to the game, but rejected 9/1; complete 8/21
IS, reapplicant. ugh.

IS and just got rejected- pretty shocked and shaken, to be honest. (complete the first day IS apps were opened)

Also IS and rejected today. Re-applicant, interview last year. Surprised because my app only improved. It's a soul-crushing and random process.. But ah well, guess it's not meant to be. 🙁

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UW SMPH) has received your 2017 application from the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) and your complete secondary application. The MD Admissions Committee has reviewed your application, and we regret to inform you that you have not been selected for an interview and your application will not be further considered.

MCAT: 520
GPA: 3.97

In-State applicant.

I could cry right now. I'm crying right now. This was my top choice.

Also rejected pre-interview
4.0
521

In state.
A bit surprised but oh well I suppose.
