I've been thinking. In terms of clinical exposure, how does it get any better than affiliations with: NYP - the largest hospital system in the US, HSS - the #1 site for orthopedic surgery in the U.S., MSK - #2 cancer center in the U.S., and Methodist in Houston? Rankings aside, the opportunities for clinical experience here are beyond belief. Plus, it is located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan (with sweet subsidized housing), arguably one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world. I want to go to this school sooo badly. Best of luck to everyone in early March!!

1) Harvard, affiliated with three of the best hospitals in the world
2) Mayo Clinic, ranked in the top three in almost every specialty

Also Cleveland Clinic.

@nutmeg16 @aldol16 I concede that Weill is not the only school with superior rotation sites, y'all make a good point.
My only gripe about CCF is lack of trauma, but the Case Western folks have Metro for that.
Mayo does have it all, plus arctic tundra.

Cornell definitely does have excellent training facilities but you do also have to remember that it shares Manhattan with at least three other pre-eminent schools. A lot of the cases will go to Bellevue.

I think Mayo Clinic definitely sees less trauma than Cleveland Clinic simply due to its location. Some big cases might be taken in from Minneapolis but there aren't a lot of stabbings in downtown Rochester 😛

You're absolutely right that Cornell shares Manhattan with Columbia, NYU, Sinai, and Einstein. It's also worthwhile to note NYC and it's metro area has 20 million people and its patient population is the most diverse in the country, maybe the world. Our hospital system is NYP, the largest in NY, which we share with Columbia. This system includes 3 manhattan hospitals, 1 in queens, 1 in Brooklyn and the Westchester psych hospital, so 6 hospitals unless I'm forgetting some - we're not losing cases to anyone; if you go to any school in NYC you will have more patients and more diversity than any other city.

However, we are the only school associated with MSK and HSS; both of these institutions have summer programs they save a portion of spots specifically for Cornell students, and many students have preceptorship at these institutions in our pre-clinical years. Our musculoskeletal unit is taught by HSS faculty and our Heme/Onc is about 50:50 Cornell-MSK. We even have the option to do our neurology clerkship at MSK.

There's other schools around the country with great clinical connections, there's no argument against that. However Cornell is very unique with it's combo of connections and patient population.

Adding onto @Señor Científico, we have the option of doing many of our clerkships at our affiliate hospitals. For example, we have the option of rotating at NYP for all of our clerkship, our other affiliate hospital, NYP-Queens (for a month of medicine, a month of surgery, peds, OB/Gyn and neuro), Sloan Kettering (for a month on medicine, a month of surgery, half of psych, and neuro), Houston Methodist (for a month of medicine, a month of surgery, Ob/Gyn, and neuro). We can do a couple random things at HSS, and we have a couple other affiliate sites for peds. We can also go to Ithaca for our primary care clerkship.

Even at NYP, the patient population is extremely varied because even though we are in the UES, we are located close to Queens and Brooklyn, and many of the patients at NYP ended up coming from both boroughs, and I have had numerous patients from both Queens and Brooklyn. On top of it, many community hospitals in the area will send more complicated patients to our main hospital, so you will see a large variety on your clerkships.

Reeeeejected pre-ii 🙁 was a reach school with lizzym 69 lol.
Oh jeez...possibly the start of another wave. If you don't mind me asking when were you complete? And do you just get an email or are you directed to the portal thing?

I sent an ITA back in October for next week and got complete silence so I am thinking the axe is on the way shortly...

Hmm seems like they aren't reviewing our apps in order. Complete much earlier a few months earlier with no response :/

Don't worry - I submitted in July and didn't hear anything until December. This school is amazing, and I feel very fortunate to have gotten the chance to interview/attend here. They consistently go through applications/reject people, so if you haven't heard a no yet, just know that you are still under consideration.

nah I received it around 1:30 pm but I hadn't checked my email all day. Hey as long as you have not been rejected you are still in the running. Cornell doesn't really do silent rejections.
