I am just anxiously refreshing my email all day. SigGhhHHHHHHHHH. Brown, plz bb, plz.

Finally got that sweet reject email.... Honestly feels nice to have closure

I noticed on their financial aid website that the "Office of Admission offers merit scholarships based on criteria other than need". Have those already been given out/are they offered at the time of an acceptance, or are they offered with financial aid award letter? I doubt I qualify, but wondering if I should be crossing my fingers or if the ship has sailed.

Thanks!

Hello! I'm an accepted student and have completed the financial aid paperwork. We won't get results of any aid until mid April. Are you interviewing? I don't think you are missing out on any chance to get scholarships/aid.
Good luck!!

I'll most likely be withdrawing from here in the next few days. Can't seem to justify the hefty over $80k price tag for this one

Hope you get in! I'll be going to Drexel next year 🙂)
I'm sorry. I get everyone weighs certain aspects differently but Drexel over Brown AND UChicago?! I'm mostly just curious what's pushing you there if you don't mind sharing! Curious if it's a scholarship?? I'm in a similar situation right now trying to choose a school ranked 40-50 at full price vs one ranked in the 70's with a slightly worse match list at 20k a year.

What do you guys think of the potential merger of Brown's affiliated hospitals with the group Partners in Massachusetts? How could this affect clinical and research opportunities?

If anything it would only increase it since partners is a massive hospital group but I don’t think it would have any affect outside of making sure they all use EPIC. Life will continue on as normally as ever but it’ll be branded Partners

But then why would Brown try to offer an alternate deal to the hospitals to avoid that merger? I don't think it's going to be that simple.
"Paxson (Brown President) said that if the arrangement goes through, specialty care would shift to Massachusetts, reducing access for Rhode Island consumers and increasing the cost of care. Rhode Island would also have less control of local healthcare operations and the state would suffer from fewer federal grants and stunted job growth"

I’m not entirely sure, I’m not an expert, but being an EMT in the area I feel like most of the speciality care already goes to Boston. I routinely took people to and from northern RI to Boston hospitals. Also I think any “speciality” or research experience we get will likely be done at in providence itself while the satellite hospitals offer more PC experience/rotations.

It sounds like it has more long-term implications for the population and grants than short-term implications for our medical training

Again, I’m just speculating here and offering my thoughts because this thread is normally so quiet lol

From my understanding it sounds like approximately 25% of waitlist acceptances occur in early May, 50% in mid May, and the remaining 25% around the end of May. Does this sound about right or am I just making this up?
Where are you getting this information???

Rejected from the waitlist. Interviewed in November. Loved Brown but am in elsewhere, so I'm not too hurt. <3

Im applying here next cycle and was wondering if any admitted students could give any input on the question asking where you imagine yourself in 15 years. Do they want you to specify which field you want to practice as well? I want to work with research and possibly healthcare policy to decrease inequalities but I dont have a specific specialty in mind because Im going into med school open minded. Would it be fine to say this and just put overall goals that aren't related to a specific specialty?

I think it would be helpful to have at least some idea of what you see yourself doing. The way I approached this prompt's purpose is: 1) you've thought about medicine as a career a bit more; 2) what sort of things/experiences you've amassed to show you're committed; 3) how can Brown specifically help you get there. It's fine if you change your mind as I've heard many students often do.
