2017-2018 Seton Hall - Hackensack Meridian

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think they are working of the application dates plus some other criteria. I am also OOS

Is anyone that has already been interviewed willing to answer some general questions for me ? Thanks !!

Thank you! Now you've gotten my curiosity. Why would you do early decision to a DO school with those stats? You seem like a nice person.
Hmmm. Mostly because I am interested in Geriatrics and because the Rowan DO has an amazing Geri program! The DO vs MD thing does not bother me much. Especially because there is a dearth of geriatric physicians! I don't think i would have a problem pursuing geri as a DO! Also, I have met the Rowan Dean! She is an absolute sweetheart! I also have some friends who go here and are very happy with their decision!
On a side note, Thank you so much for the compliment! You seem like an amazing person yourself!! Did you also apply to hackensack?? Or did you apply this cycle?? Good luck to you!!

I'm sure you can just ask the questions here. If you have questions, probably others will have the same ones as well.

For those who received an II, did you get an e-mail with further information? I tried to call them but went straight to voicemail, and I haven't heard from them since e-mailing them.

Yes, she said they would email me, and shortly after the call they did

Interesting article: Hasta la vista, Seton Hall School of Medicine

There is an interesting line from the article, "The school’s name will be changing to the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall, and eventually will stop bearing the Seton Hall name altogether.
To make it short: this is embarrassing for the university."

The article was written by the Setonian's Editorial Board.

as someone who has followed this school's development of the new medical program over the past few years, it is really unfortunate to see the power of the dollar take over and possibly diminish the core values that the school was developed around

No wonder they started to change their mission. Sucks for SHU tho since they have already made investments in the school.

i guess one thing that isnt clear. is the 25% shu undergrads quota for this year too?

“We have reconfigured the financial terms so that Hackensack Meridian Health has achieved the objective of securing the destiny of the School of Medicine and launching an institution that will be innovative, dynamic and a national leader in medical education,” the health system said.

I think this statement describes the eventual mission of the school

Sounds like a real shift away from the focused Catholic and humanistic mission that was originally in the plan

Such promise and now so disappointing!!!

A previous interviewee said that this will be implemented gradually, and is not the case for inaugural class

25 percent for this first class being SHU confirmed by recent SHU email to students. They also mentioned it a bunch of times in those articles.

In one of those articles, the way they worded it sounded like HMH will reserve 25% of its residency class for seton hall school of medicine graduates, which is something I have not specifically heard. I know they will be bring 25% of medical school classes from seton hall UG, but have not heard it about med grads going into HMH

“Another negotiation made between SHU and HMH, according to Pines, is the guaranteed continuation of clinical and residency placements for students.

HMH is allowing for 25 percent of the incoming class to be reserved solely to Seton Hall graduating applicants, Meehan stated.”

Is there another way to interpret this?

Yeah, it means that your rotations will still be done at HMH, along with possible residency opportunities in year 3. And that 25% of seats for medical school will be reserved for SHU undergad.

It was literally confirmed via email is what I'm saying...

Looking like tomorrow folks! Anyone remember if they said anything about calling or emailing when releasing post II decisions?

What’s more likely is people who haven’t gotten in anywhere else are applying and/or people are fishing for scholarships. Either way, good for the school!

This thread has more posts than NJMS and RWJ...COMBINED 😳

I guess a lot of people want to go hereee
Best of luck everyone!!😍

Anyone getting accepted please share stats, and when I mean stats give GPA and MCAT as to all of us who are curious about how/what the new school is looking for. Even us SHU undergrads are curious, even if some don't have the intention of applying or are too prideful to admit their inferiority complex. Thank you.

Yep I got no interviews anywhere so this is my last chance at avoiding an MCAT retake and having to put together the money I'd need to apply for a third time! 🙁

Besides the three hotels listed on the school website, where have people who have already interviewed stayed and liked so far? Thanks!
