2017-2018 Texas Tech University - El Paso

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How fast are secondaries sent out? I'm OOS and admittedly had everything verified pretty late in the TMDSAS cycle, but I've gotten all of the secondaries from the other schools about a week ago except for El Paso. Also double checked to make sure I did submit to El Paso.

I received an email from TTUHSC El Paso on the same day my TMDSAS transmitted saying that they received my application, and I can submit the secondary. So they don't have a screen for applicants. Check your email spam/trash, and if you don't have it, I would give them a call.

I havent gotten a secondary either. But Im not too worried about it cause I got verified on Friday, backing up against a weekend so Im holding out that I'll get it today or tomorrow

Definitely give the school a call if you do not receive it by tomorrow.

Whew! Very happy for the II, but gonna be rough getting to El Paso. On a tight budget, so only reasonable option is to drive 11 hours each way.

Anyone in Austin, San Antonio, Houston with August 3 II interested in carpooling to El Paso, if you are not flying?

Same. The flights to El Paso are crazy expensive! 🙁

Question for those of you who had your letters sent after completing the secondary:

About how long did it take from when TMDSAS received your letters for your application to be "complete" as per the portal?

Not to sound too neurotic (even though this is SDN), but should I be concerned if I submitted my secondary and everything in early June and still haven't gotten an II for this school? I'm in the same boat for lubbock as well-ppl who submitted everything after me have gotten II's.

i am in the same boat as you!

Like three days I think

Transmitted 5/25, secondary submitted early June.

Yeah I still haven't heard nothing. Transmitted July 11th and secondary on July 13th. I haven't heard nothing from no schools so kinda worried
I'm sure you'll be fine. There are people on this thread who submitted after me and got an invite before I did.

II just a couple minutes ago! I'm an in state applicant, with a 3.986 gpa and a 518 MCAT.

I hope you find someone to carpool, that is one tedious drive alone! Keep an eye on your engine temp too, rough time to be driving across Texas @100 degrees+

Have UTMB next week

Haha sorry for erasing my post, realized after checking flight and shuttle times that I wouldn't be able to make those dates work.

This scheduling thing is a mess, and I don't have nearly as many IIs as you yet. I can only imagine how stressed you feel about it! Good luck sorting things out.

For people who have interviewed here already or in the past, they say that we will most likely end by 3. What is the likelihood of ending by 2:30? What is the likelihood of going past 3?

Wondering if I can make a 4 pm or 4:30 flight (also noticed the school is only a 10-15 min drive to the airport so hopefully that helps).

Thanks. On my sixth one now, and why I feel very fortunate to have em, the whole scheduling and money thing is making me stressed. Already had to call two schools to reschedule cos I literally forgot the week I was starting school. Cant even interview prep till 2 days before my first one

I feel. My first one is literally 2 days after I finish work as well... I've been missing a lot of sleep trying to balance 10 hour work days, finishing secondaries, and interview prepping.

Good problems to have so I'm grateful, but I'm slowly becoming caffeine-dependent.

I'm from El Paso and I personally think a 4 pm flight is really cutting it close. The airport is a short distance away, however the travel from Paul foster is mainly city roads so you'll be hitting a lot of street lights. If you can I would recommend a 5pm flight at the earliest incase the interview runs late or traffic gets in the way!

that's a 150 dollar difference for me 🙁

Just attended the 8/3 interview here. It had an amazing campus, faculty and students. I'd recommend staying with a medical student host if you can! El paso was also much prettier then i expected with the mountains! My interviewers were super nice and relaxed too. Let me know if you have any questions!

*sorry i had written 9/3 instead of 8/3. My bad.

What is the future like?! I kid, I know you mean 8/3.
How was the food? what time did you get out of there? a couple of us are debating 4:30 flights.

If you like mexican food it will be great - if not then there is always fast food . I went the day before and flew in at 2 pm so that i could make the meet and greet at 630pm which was a great time to ask the current MS1and 2 students any questions before the interviews. I personally flew out at 6 pm to avoid rushing. The last interview ended exactly at 3pm. So it's a bit of a squeeze but i think you can do it. There were definitely people at the interview who made the 415pm flight today - though they were running out of there real fast haha. I stayed for the student panel and to talk to the faculty a bit more.
