2017-2018 Texas Tech University - El Paso

Hey stop that. This is just pre-match. You have a good chance of still receiving interviews at this point for schools that might not even be on your radar yet! Keep your head up, this is just the beginning of the process. I have 2 pending interviews so the probability I am going to be waiting until Feb. 1st is pretty high, but its still something. Don't lose hope!

You're awesome! Hope you get in somewhere. You seem like a great person.

So are you! I'm a second time re-app and submitted super late in this cycle, so I just took the stress of pre-match away by not interviewing before today 😀 first one is this Friday in Lubbock, second times the charm :xf::xf::xf:

Can anyone give me an idea on what to expect during the day of the interview and the interview itself? I will be interviewing on 12/14

Interview day started off with the dean talking about the school, then tours, then more information about curriculum, financial aid, etc., then the interviews (super relaxed and conversational) are after lunch. Just make sure you know your application and yourself. Enjoy PLFSOM! It’s pretty impressive and the people there are great.

Anyone received a scholarship offer?

nothing here. When should we be hearing about scholarship offers?

Also, how are y'all accepting the pre-match offer? Just sending an email to admissions that you accept their offer?

Thank you so much! Any idea on how many acceptances they send out? I know they interview around 500.

Never mind. On the portal under "OFFER" you can accept or decline the pre-match offer. Got an official offer acceptance email right after.

Third time applicant LizzyM 69 and beginning to wonder if I'll ever get in anywhere
Hey! I just wanted to say don't give up. And I know that is corny and everyone just says that. But take it from me. I have the same stats as you, I am a re-applicant who got one interview really late in the cycle last year and did not match. I understand how you feel, but just know that the harder you work to improve each year and the resilience you show will do wonders. Hoping we both make it this cycle 🙂

Before submitting my application the second time, I contacted the schools that rejected me and requested a file review. I had a long conversation with a faculty at admissions office (I can't disclose the name of the school) on a phone call. Took notes and made changes to my application according to their feedback. Acquired more clinical and research experiences and applied again. Fight for your dreams. Don't give up. Most importantly, make improvements in your application when you're applying again.

With that being said, there is still Match day and wait list movement. This cycle is far from over.

I have an II here coming up, debating going.

How's the interview? Professional or issues?

expensive uber rides

I had an amazing time here. They were so organized. I fell in love with their curriculum and the campus. My student host was the nicest person ever and drove me around to and from the airport. They intentionally want to keep the class size to 100 students and this is a plus for me. They have a dental school coming up too. In a few decades TTUHSC El Paso will be a top notch medical center in the state like Houston, San Antonio and Dallas IMO.

Hiiii, so for those who pre-matched, I have a question...

When you see you offer on the portal does it say that your offer is contingent upon the successful completion of your current course of study?

It just means after you accept the offer, you finish and meet all the school academic requirements before matriculation.

I was just wondering if I was the only one who has that requirement or if it's the same for everybody!

How heavy is the pre-match here? I interview here on Dec 7th and was wondering if there is a chance I could pre-match before they go on break

For those accepted, do we need to mail back the letter saying we declined IN ADDITION TO clicking "decline" on the portal? Or just do one of them?

For sake of redundancy, I did both as well as replied to offer email. 🙄

LOL I was actually also wondering if I should respond to offer email. I think I'm going to do that and not bother with the scanning as I have already withdrawn on TMDSAS anyway.

Can't believe how neurotic I am even when it comes to withdrawals... LOL

The withdrawal method has a 22% failure rate. Can't be too careful.

So when are y’all submitting your official transcripts? After match day?

Hey guys! Just received my II today. I was wondering if I interview later (Jan 4th) will that decrease my chances of being accepted? Does interviewing earlier increase chances of being accepted?

TMDSAS schools fill most of their spots on Match Day, so don't focus on increased or decreased chances. Focus on smashing a home run on your interview day.

If they give you an II they believe that you would be a good student for their program. You have a shot 🙂

Congrats! Stats if you don't mind?

Can a current student comment on the college system? Is it something fun/something well liked by med students at PLFSOM, or is it seen as unnecessary?

Congratulations! 🙂 When were you complete?

Hey guys, I have a question about interview day and was wondering if any of y'all could help me out. I originally booked the fight for 4:35PM after my interview day, but now I'm wondering if that gives me enough time to get from my interview to the airport since they end at 3:00PM. If anyone could let me know how your experience was that'd be great! I'm thinking of switching to a later flight.

I can't find my interview day schedule, but if I remember correctly it depends on when your interviews are scheduled. I believe I was finished before 3pm, but I had a later flight. It didn't take too long to get to the airport and get through security in my experience, but it may depend on how comfortable you are with rushing to your flight if need be.

Just personal experience. The security line at El Paso airport was extremely long, and I actually missed by 4:30 flight by a few minutes. They offer a shuttle that will take you to the airport, but if you have an earlier flight, you should get an Uber.

Thank you for the information! I ended up switching my flight after looking through earlier questions too that said this same thing.
As for the shuttle, is it offered by the school? If so that's really nice of them!

Yep. On my interview day, they had a shuttle sign-in sheet if we wanted to use it. They leave after everyone on the list finishes up with their interviews.

I think that the interviews end at different times for different people, but I'm pretty sure that they were finished by 3:00 (mine were done by 2:00), and then there is a student panel (which I think is technically optional since no one is there to check your attendance), and honestly, I didn't think the panel was informative because it was all first year students and can only give their experience for several months at the school. If you're interested in learning about student life, make sure to go to the mixer on the night before the interview and/or stay with a student host--both of these will be just as, if not more, informative than the panel. Anyways, what I'm trying to say, is that if you need to leave after your interviews, I'm sure it's okay. The only problem is if you need to use the shuttle, since the shuttle won't leave until after the panel, so you might just need to stay but not sure if you would miss your flight.
