12/11 Middletown Waitlisted. I feel like the waitlist spots are a pretty healthy position to be in – thoughts? Ideas?
Yes. They said 75% of the waitlist eventually gets in

Does anyone have any idea or feel or heard anything about what percentage of ppl get in from waitlist to Harlem?

II for the Harlem campus!
On Touro's website it says "candidates will meet with several faculty members". Does this mean they do MMIs? Any advice on what to expect on interview day? :)

The interview itself is 2 interviewers with the interviewee, but throughout the day you meet other faculty members. Congrats! Good luck

Accepted about a week ago and I have a few questions for others who were accepted or who are currently enrolled. After I submit my $2000 deposit, will the school ask that I take a drug test? More importantly, will the school ask that I disclose any criminal charges/drug related offenses that have been dropped (so even if I have not been convicted, I will still have to disclose)? I ask because I was accepted to a different school earlier this cycle and only until after I submitted a expensive deposit did I hear from the school that I must disclose dropped charges. Thanks for the help!

I don’t know the answer, but can I ask how things worked out at the other school you were accepted at?

My acceptance was not rescinded after I fully disclosed what had happened in my past. I slightly prefer Touro to this school however. I also don't take $2/3000 lightly and if I have to go through the nerve wracking process of explaining myself again I don't think the money is worth it.

Has anyone from the 1/8 or 1/22 interview dates heard back yet?? Just trying to see where they are on decisions (for Middletown)

I was accepted in early November and I sent in my 2k deposit shortly after. I have not taken a drug test. They sent me an email with a list of things I would need to do before classes start and one of them was a background check and drug test.

I have an expunged felony arrest that resulted in a diversion program (no charges or convictions). That arrest will not show up on the schools background check but it will show up on government hospital rotations (VA). If I recall correctly, Touro only asked me about non-expunged convictions BUT they did say that we should disclose anything that could prevent us from rotating at hospitals or getting licensed. I called my local VA hospital and they assured me that my case would not prevent me from rotating. They told me that they are concerned with charges that occurred within 36 months. He did say that they only consider charges and that it does not matter if the charges resulted in a conviction or not. I also called my states licensing board and they said it would not be a problem.

I've got my interview for Harlem on 3/28. If anyone would be so kind as to pm me what their experience was like and what tips they had, I would really appreciate it!

At this rate, you won't hear back until September.

So much for that 4-6 week turn around

I was in the second interview group in late September and they took 7 weeks to get back. I really don't understand how it takes 4x times longer than other schools.

As an upper classwoman at TouroNY I must spread the word to think twice about this school. They still do not have enough rotation spots for their soon to be third year students. You have been warned. Only go here as a last resort. Our level 2 COMLEX scores are one of the worst in the nation due to the poor quality of our clinical rotations. This school needs to be rechecked by COCA.

are there any other current students who can comment positively on the school?
or is this the general consensus that everyone feels?

Certainly not a general consensus. Look back on the threads, especially from two years ago, and you will realize that the above two posters 1. were influential in providing false information during the time when Harlem overenrolled and 2. is a reincarnation of a student who did not do well/felt the school slighted them during rotations. While my contacts at these places noted deficiencies, it is far from the doom and gloom these posters will lead you and others to believe. Other than the unfortunate overenrollment and the consequences after, TouroNY is still a solid school.

My thoughts exactly. The school also has pretty decent matches. Yeah it’s not a great location but what else is to be expected of a school in a major city. There are things that the school needs to work on and I was under the impression that the admin is working on those issues. They brought up low complex 2 scores at Harlem and informed us that they’ve made changes that should result in higher scores this time, and are expecting them to be in the 90s.

No changes were made. These are all cheap points they throw at you during the admissions cycle. We only have 1 hospital in NYC that we rotate at. All of our rotations are in tertiary care centers in NJ. The school does nothing to help us with clinical education. Some of us have families in NYC but the school expects us to just move and go to a new state. We are losing clinical sites every year and not gaining anything new. By the time you all are in OMS-III, we will also lose sites to the new Seton Hill Med School.
Also, the school gives you zero help/resources for boards. Less than half my class is planning on taking Step 1 because none of us feel prepared or feel like the school is giving us adequate time to prepare.

Many TouroCOM clinical rotation site have been lost or will be lost due to the new med school in Jersey.

About the Partnership - Seton Hall University

RowanSOM, Jersey's only DO school, may also lose some of those spots.

NYCOM also lost some rotation spots and even DO residencies due to Rutgers merging with Barnabas.
New Jersey Health System

The same thing also happened to NYCOM when it lost its spots to the new Hofstra med school which took many of the rotation spots. And as Hofstra grows, and so does Northwell's reach into many hospitals, many clinical sites NYCOM used to call home will be gone.

For those of waitlisted at other Touro campuses but are interested in Touro NY, don’t email admissions (inbox gets backlogged) instead email the specific person in admissions every couple weeks and let them know your highly interested and drop a hint that you have been accepted else where.

All of Pezeveng posts has the same recurring themes is extemely misleading. He really belongs in 4chan if I am really being honest.

1.Changes have been made for increasing Level 2 first time pass rate: grading for COMAT shelf exams (1 SD instead of 2 SD) and scoring at least 500 on the COMSAE before register to sit the the level 2.

2. In terms of board prep, as Medical students we can never get enough. Touro NY provides a 2400 Osteopathic questions qbank through truelearn (COMBANK), hard copy of USMLE first aid textbook (NSU just switched to PDF), Sketchymedical subscription, practice COMSAE (institutional versions), and in-house board prep review videos.

Here we go again!!!

Guys Don't listen to these people. After speaking to current 4th year students, I am certain that Touro COM is a decent school and you will be okay. Sure every school has some flaws and some have more than others but no school is perfect. No matter where you go, you will always see some students always complaining about one thing or another. At the end of the day, it mostly depends on you. Don't let the select few instill fear in you. If this is your only acceptance or if this school is your top choice for a variety of reasons, stick with it. At least don't listen to this poster above and osteopathicmedstudent. These two seem like disgruntled med students :D Hope they succeed despite the fact that they are blaming everything on the school. Good Luck!!!

this is fake news. First of all its Seton Hall, not "Seton Hill". Secondly, you don't seem to even know what a tertiary care center is. Definition of tertiary care is "a hospital that provides tertiary care, which is health care from specialists in a large hospital after referral from primary care and secondary care." So that means that people are referred with difficult cases to the hospital. What you are trying to say is a they have a lot of outpatient clinical sites as rotation sites. So if you're trying to bash a school (presumably you say you go to Touro) at least learn the medical terminology correctly. I for one would be happy to rotate at a tertiary care hospital as they are mostly the best hospitals in the country.

Im a student at Touro harlem if anyone has any questions PM me! yes the comlex 2 scores were not great in the past, but improvements were and are still being made and they have gotten progressively better. Yes, we struggle for 3rd year clinical sites because our school is located in NYC where there are the most medical schools per square mile of any city, but ultimately everyone has gotten through 3rd and 4th year with enough rotations. If you want to do residency in or around NY,CT, NJ and are applying to DO school then Touro and NYIT-COM are the best choices for you, because they have the most connections to the area.

Don't let the commute between rotations stop you from choosing any med school!
Even MD students have to shuffle around between rotations and may have a long commute (in NYC some go from upper Manhattan, to Long Island or Westchester, it varies, and some students don't have a car, but that didn't stop them from going to school.
At NYCOM some students had to travel more than 6 hours between rotations (upstate, then long island, then back upstate) but honestly that trip only happens once, when one rotation ends and the next one begins.
As long as you study hard and do well and pass the boards, get good letters, and have a positive attitude, all will fall into place :)
Rotations are rotations, does not mean you have to match there, as long as you learn, and apply broadly for residency and fill your rank list with many places, you should be more than fine, and TouroCOM will help you achieve that.
