2017-2018 University of Pittsburgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ok, so after letting the initial shock subside, it makes more and more sense that it hints toward acceptance and not waitlist. Why would you overburden your admissions and financial aid department with aid packets to process for those that may not even get accepted.

ugh I didn't get one. I feel bad now 🙁

A couple schools I've interviewed at have said that they process financial aid packets regardless of a decision or not. Just so it's out of the way and early and people don't rush to fill them out as they are accepted. Just playing devil's advocate here.

But let's not stress out about this. In reality we have no idea what's going on.

Facts. Like I said, just my thoughts....and I am willing to admit there is the possibility of (hopeful) confirmation bias.

Has anyone gotten the financial aid notification and have not even started their FAFSA?

I started mine and added Pitt but haven’t submitted mine yet. I received the notification...FYI.

i got it and submitted my FASFA but I did not put Pitt on it - I only put school I knew I was accepted to

Seems like that notification is probs just waitlist then, since there's no way the entire SDN population gets accepted to Pitt XP

Is the “admission data forms” tab new? Or has it always been there?

If we wanna know for sure, we have to figure out if WL and accepted students last year got financial aid packets or if it was just accepted students.

Here's a little pre-med neuroticism for you... Counted the number of people who I could determine the status of their portal change 100%, ie explicit yes/no or pretty gosh darn close to it (n=18). 11 total people had status changes, 7 total people did not. Looked back last year and right around 25 people from SDN were accepted immediately from the initial decision date and posted about it.

To me, I don't think it would be unreasonable for these status changes to mean acceptances given.

Also - while i did include my result in this data set (no status change sadly), think of all the other people like me who did not get the status change and did not post about it. Thus, this makes it even more favorable for the people who did have status changes.

But - what do I know!

I didn't get the financial aid status change and I'm hoping that, if it does mean something, the status change means acceptance and not acceptance/waitlist because given how many people Pitt waitlists I would be devastated if I got outright rejected post-interview.

hot damn I need to unfollow this thread. My hopes are getting way too high just to get crushed. Aside note, if we're debating between Mayo and Pitt, how do we feel about Mayo vs PSTP @ Pitt if we're interested in academic medicine?
PSTP seems awesome - a lot of my friends in med school say that you have to be way more intentional about making time for research in med school as compared to undergrad, so taking an extra year is a huge plus if you want publications, etc. Plus last year's match list is preeeeetty legit.

Since I am 7000 years old even 1 extra year sounds like a death sentence. Does PSTP pay 100% Of tuition?

HAHAHA I've actually been sitting on my PSTP application for almost 2 months for this same reason. And nah I wish, they cover 10K/yr with a stipend in your research year.

Didn't get the financial aid status. I interviewed in Oct.
If that means a rejection, I appreciate how they are delivering the bad news slowly.

Everyone who got the financial aid statement should post their interview date. It might just be the people who interviewed early. My date was in August and I got the change.

I interviewed early November. So, I don't think it has to do with interview date.

After looking at the Pitt threads of the past, I feel like every year Pitt adcoms do something to the portal shortly before decisions, that have no real correlation to admissions decision, just to generate some kind of tin foil neuroticism on sdn.
I noticed that too

I too have done my due stalking of previous years, and the red text year seems legit. Idk, this seems pretty convincing. Don't wanna get my or anyone else's hopes up too high, but I feel a lot better about my chances than I did before the update. Time will tell. If they release tomorrow, good luck to everyone. We gon learn today (or in the near future).

What do you mean red text year?

Two years ago, some students had "you will need to complete this form upon your acceptance by the University" in red text next to the admission data form and were subsequently accepted.
