Do you know what time the mixer usually is? I found a flight that gets into Hobby at 1:45 PM the day of the mixer and don't know if this is pushing it. Trying to save some money.

Sorry, I don't know the time but I'm sure an email to admissions could get your answer.

I also never got the "under review" email.
 
Transmitted 05/19 and received an under review email but no II... I hope to hear from them soon 🙁

They only offered one date, August 11th, and the email said they don't reschedule

Oh, whaaat they don't reschedule? Well I'm glad I didn't get the interview then lol I'm gonna be abroad till the 14th of August
 
For those who got the II yesterday, did you get another email today asking you to confirm? The attachment to the original email said to confirm no later than 2 weeks before the interview date so I'm wondering why I got this email.

My interpretation was that you had to confirm between now and two weeks before the interview date. I sent them an email this morning to confirm and there was no issue

I confirmed within an hour of receiving my letter. They replied to my confirmation almost immediately.

I did NOT receive another email today.

I confirmed last night, received a reply to the confirmation early this morning and nothing else.

That's my interpretation too. So I'm not sure why she's is emailing me well before the 2 week mark. I'm obviously going to make it work but this doesn't seem very friendly to those who work full time and can't say immediately whether they can take off on a particular day.

When I interviewed a couple of years ago, the mixer was at 6:30 p.m. (don't know if this has changed at all). A flight that arrives at 1:45 should leave you with more than enough time to get down to Galveston. Also, the mixer is super casual and has no bearing on admissions decisions; if you wound up arriving a little late due to travel, I seriously doubt anyone would care.

All that being said, if it's feasible for you to attend the night before social, I highly recommend it. It was really nice to get a feel for the UTMB community in a more relaxed setting than what you'll be working with on interview day.

That sucks that they won't let you pick a different date. What if you have an interview already scheduled for these dates? I haven't heard from UTMB yet but I already have 2 interviews on both 8/11 and 8/18 🙁 It seems like most of the interviews for med schools are on Fridays.

It's not that they won't let you have a different date, it's that they won't let you change a date once you have committed to it. If you have valid reason you can't make those dates feel free to call and ask for another date. They do want to fill the early dates first.

Also the Friday thing is so you can miss fewer classes your senior year. Some premeds schedule Tu/Thur classes only during fall semester knowing they will need to travel for interviews.

Oh that makes me feel a lot better! Thank you! I was starting to get unnecessarily worried. And the Friday thing definitely does make sense! It's just that its summer right now so I thought there may be other dates available before school starts.
 
Does UTMB do silent pre-II rejection? Im still waiting on a possible II but have low expectations

I wouldn't worry. They should potentially send out another groups of IIs late this week or early next, based on past performance. They interview around 1000 people and have scheduled maybe 200 interviews so far.

Their interview days have 50 people from what I remember. If they've sent out 2 dates that would mean 100 people

I think they've sent out 3 or 4

Edit: I was just estimating based on the range of offered dates I've seen on sdn and my friends have gotten and preferred an overestimate to be safe

Three interviews by the end of August. This is a good problem to have!
 
I transmitted June 6th and I haven't heard anything. People transmitted after me already got II did I get a silence rejection already?

Don't worry!

You may just be in a different bracket than the people who have already received interviews.

UTMB continues doing interviews all the way to December!

Just FYI, Uber and Lyft were recently granted permission to resume services on the island. Not sure how much they'd charge for an airport trip, but it should be an option now!

Thanks for the update. The Galveston Express shuttle charges $30 each way and will pick up or drop off at any Galveston hotel or the cruise ship pier.

Not sure how much higher rates are for people under 25, but I booked a rental car for under $50, which is cheaper than the shuttle plus uber rides in town.

depending on parking. I've not been to galveston, is it the kind of place you have to pay for parking everywhere?

Many businesses have private lots. Even in the "downtown" area the metered street parking isn't too bad ... $2 an hour or something like that, and free after 6 p.m. (if I recall correctly; definitely double check the signs). Trying to park along Seawall if you want to visit the beach might be a pain given that we're in the throes of tourist season, but overall I have not found parking in Galveston to be an issue.
 
Should I start getting worried that I haven't gotten an II yet transmitted 6/9 LizzyM 67 great EC. people with the same lizzym score are already getting II and they transmitted after me. This is one of my top choices don't know how to feel.
