The Pride Scholarship? I got it too but wouldn't read too much into it - it seems like we'll know as soon as they make any sort of decision post-interview.

Just got the rejection email. Did not expect that at all. Interviewed 11/29 in Seattle. Good luck everyone! UW is a great school.
 
Just got rejected too (interviewed 12/8). And I thought my interview here went well...
 

12/12 so I'm not sure what to make of that since I interviewed so recently? Who knows. I keep over analyzing everything that happens lol

Also got the rejection email. Pretty in shock and sad right now also was not expecting any word before the new years. Congrats and Good luck to everyone still in the running <3
 
Just got the rejection email. Very surprised, but i have other acceptances so i feel ok. Stats: 517 mcat 3.96 gpa. In-state applicant. Obviously that's not everything about my application, but i would say mine was very well rounded. Thought the interview went ok too. Its a crap shoot anyway so don't feel too bad if you got rejected. 🙂 best of luck to everyone!!!
 
Has anyone had experience with the mock interview offered by UW AFERM? I've signed up but might not be able to make my late morning session because of work. Sad.

Does anybody have any advice for how to prepare for the role-play scenario? I'm still kind of hazy on what it is actually going to be like, do they give you much information on what you are trying to communicate to the fake-patient? Sorry if this has already been covered somewhere I couldn't find it...

Would be my first time mock interviewing with them as well. but I have heard wonderful things. They try to get 3 med students to simulate the 3 person panel and they interview you then give you a quick recap.

It is good practice either way, since they've all been through it.

My scenario didn't have any fake patient. Just be yourself, there's nothing to practice.

From my understanding, one of the interviewer gives you a scenario (a teenage girl comes in asking for birth control) and lets the med student interviewer be the pt (teenage girl pt) and you have to "deal with it"
 
Was rejected here pre-secondary last year. Could the screening based on residency (I'm CA resident) or GPA/MCAT cutoff?

Any advice for prepping for upcoming Spokane interviews? Is the format for both cohorts pretty much the same?

That's encouraging. Could you give insight into the format? I've seen people talk about patient interactions in this thread, is that incorporated into the day itself?

Seems to me like there's an optional (but pretty much mandatory) check-in time in the morning where you get the information session, and then since I have an afternoon interview I'm just not sure what the timeline will be. If anybody who's interviewed here could just give a brief outline of the day that'd be awesome!

  • When you get there some will have the 8am interview others will have an afternoon one. They are structured differently depending on who interviews you. Seems to consistently have a discussion about why medicine and an ethical delimma/patient scenario that you have to walk through and verbalize a resolution/solution. I think reviewing the UW med ethics page helped me know what to expect. I had a ton of questions about healthcare policy but some people had 0.
  • Then you have a general Q&A with some admissions folks and we had a brief discussion about tracks and the cultural competency efforts of UWSOM
  • Then youll have a tour followed by lunch. I asked a ton of questions to my tour guide it was refreshing to get an unfiltered view of their perspective and reaffirmed why UW is my top choice. Lunch was also a chance to ask some M1s what they thought and then we had a faculty member sit down with us to discuss her thoughts as well. \
  • This was all great but the whole day is overshadowed by the interview. If you have it first you don't psych yourself out too much but you also dwell on it all day. If you have it later you also dwell on it all day but can learn some good questions from the tour.
  • I can't speak to what will happen in Spokane but I bet it is similar
  • Review the UW interview prep page for a ton of other tips
Good Luck! This page and the lovely people who are on it were a godsend in making me feel comfortable when I was preparing so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Anything optional is truly optional and doesn't factor into any decision

Do you know if the course observations at the end of the day are mandatory?
 
How thorough should my explanation for my thought process have been for the role play? Is it important to explain a lot? Also how long does a pause have to be for it to go from thoughtful to awkward? Really worried I messed up my interview...

Realistically no unless you have a significant other with a full time job. They require you to make enough money to cover food, rent, utilities to be considered a resident. That’s nearly impossible as a medical student. You need to make around $40k a year to be able to do that with how much Seattle costs.

I'm interviewing on the 29th. I did apply TRUST and was told the TRUST interviews are on the 29th. Good luck! I'm excited to learn more about WWAMI and what the school has to offer. On the bright side, I heard from current medical students that we hear back with-in a week of interview.
 
Does anyone know where we submit grade updates? Would we just send them to the general admissions e-mail?

Should I expect to be drilled hard about grades during my interview? I have super low gpas so I'm prepared to talk about it, but I know only the EXCOM member has access to everything while the other two interviewers just have essays/ECs/LORs. Being asked a question about my grades would probably reveal that part of my application to the other interviewers, so I assume the EXCOM member is instructed not to bring it up?

I would guess not. Worst case be prepared to discuss what you learned from having a low gpa (ie improvements you made or positive trends in your later years) so they know you have thought about it but it is so dependent on school and major plus UW is interested in the holistic app that it isn't a deal breaker.

I havn't heard back. Based on the previous years' threads, the next update was around mid-late January (~22nd) - first week of February (~5th) with mainly SUC / rejection e-mails like the last batch. A second update was around early March (~3rd-6th).

Other acceptances were mainly from WWAMI specific sites since they are interviewing around late January to mid February, and there is a priority for those students. Those who interviewed at those sites tend to receive some notification within a week to a few weeks. Most of us will hear back in March, so patience is a virtue (a painful one *sad face*). I expect to receive 2 more SUC e-mails and hopefully an acceptance in March ; if not, at least be on the alternate list <#25 to guarantee a spot.

Definitely not. At the beginning of the interview your Excom mentions about the other 2 being blinded from everything except your primary and secondary essays. To your advantage, I would not bring anything up about it, but if someone asks an obstacle question, you could possibly bring it up if you spin it well to your advantage.
