2017-2018 University of Washington

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What was lacking in your essays from last year that you improved upon this year. It is strange that that could be the only difference. Did you apply earlier this cycle too?
I asked all of the schools for feedback who would give it. UW said that I came off as immature in my writing. My essays didn't have any spelling or grammar mistakes, and they were written nicely. They said that I just didn't have enough life experience. They said my interview went fine and I applied at the same time as last year. Other schools thought that I didn't have enough clinical experience. So I took all of the advise and followed it. But I applied before I made most of the changes. I moved and took a job as a scribe to mature and learn more about medicine.
Mostly, I just reframed my story, and an extra year, and more interview experience put me over the edge.

Don't forget to check out the Facebook Group for those newly accepted. There is a specific one for Spokane as well. Just search groups for "uwsom e-2018: spokane cohort".

Dear UW, the NSA and I would like to know if you could accept or reject me now. Thanks.

does UW send a formal acceptance letter in the mail or just an email?

Def phone call and email, not sure if physical mail.

Does UW hire scammers to call us with #s starting with 206?

For Seattle, it seems from the past two years that a late-January SUC party has been coincidental with a large number of rejections -- seemingly the largest mass rejection besides the final March stuff. For example, last year on 1/23 there were 8 SUCs reported on SDN and 7 rejections. So even getting a SUC in this next update seems like it would be okay news... though a straight-up acceptance would always be welcome 😀
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if they will even go to the month of march this year for decisions on admission since the last group to get interviewed was last week I believe. The past years they have interviewed until March, per a student giving our tour during my interview this month. They cut it short this year.

Wow! This is for Seattle? I had not heard of this. But it makes sense, it looks like there haven't really been any new Seattle IIs since ~November. Do you or anybody else (paging @BABSstudent) know why? Did they interview fewer people? Plan to accept fewer people? Or did they just get it all done more quickly this year? Maybe they're trying to interview fewer people and have a higher post-interview accept rate (wishful thinking at its finest!)? Sorry for all of the questions lol
From what we were told at my interview date earlier this month, it sounds like they have interviewed about the same number of applicants this year but that more people chose to interview at Spokane for Seattle, if that makes sense. They seem to be happy with the applicant pool as of now

If you are applying to MDPhd (or MSTP) do you still need to apply to FAFSA?

In the morning, I heard they are meeting this Friday.

I was told that they are holding a meeting on Friday from a provider @ my work. However, this provider isn't on the board, so I am not sure how accurate. Just felt wrong not to share the info.

Student is a XX year old (fe)male who presents today with a chief complaint of anxiety episode s/p interview in 2017 with University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM). Student stated that (s)he has been worried h/o 2-3 months after his / her interview for "sounding stupid" in his / her interview answers. Student notes that his / her anxious episodes worsens when he / she receives an e-mail notification or a random phone call and admits feeling "on edge" when these episodes occur which resolve immediately within 5-10 minutes. Student has been exercising, having fun with friends, working, and sleeping to relieve his / her stress. Student denies any other symptoms or complaints at this time. Student is happy to know that other students are in his / her position waiting for a response from UWSOM. Student is here to receive an Rx refill for "hugs / pats" and to hopefully hear good news and become a student at UWSOM and call her(him)self a future Husky. Kthxbye :nailbiting:

I got scared at how accurate this is.

Anyone brave enough to contact admissions if there is another update this month? 😛

I missed a call from a Seattle number today. They didn't leave a voicemail. Are we expecting decisions to come out today? I interviewed in December.

Some decisions are supposed to come out today! @HermioneGrangerMD congrats!! Around what time did you get the call, if you don't mind me asking?
It was around 1PM pacific time. A couple of weeks after my interview, I got a status update of "continued consideration" - so for anyone else in the same boat, there is hope yet!
