I wish! But I'm not expecting a whole lot more info coming up -- I know there are a lot of regional interviews going on right now. I believe they are currently in AK, next week in Spokane and WY, following in MT. (The same EXCOM members participate in all of the regional sites as well, right?) Given that they meet to settle those interviews right after the visit, I think they're going to be very busy with all of that stuff and probably won't get back to Seattle stuff for a while...

Excom members are different across states. 99% sure

Ok. I know each state has another ADCOM but the final decision is made by just the one EXCOM. But I don't know if that means that the normal EXCOM leads the admissions decisions at the other sites or if they're just a figurehead and it's the regional ADCOM that does most of the work. I found a document by googling "uwsom excom meeting schedule" with a detailed explanation of the whole structure, but I'm not sure what it means exactly in practice.

Edit: the relevant section which I think agrees with what you decribed: "Each partner WAMI state, as well as Spokane, has its own Admissions Committee made up of 4-6 members from its respective site. These regional committees are responsible for interviewing applicants from their respective sites, and presenting to EXCOM a preference list for acceptance based on workforce needs specific to their sites. One member of each group serves as that group’s EXCOM representative. Ideally the year of appointment to the committee is staggered so that the most senior member of each committee becomes the EXCOM member for his/her state. Members are selected through processes that vary from state to state (see f. below)"

All of the students accepted from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, are ultimately granted formal acceptance by a vote of the main EXCOM (same that votes for the Washington kids). HOWEVER, 999 times out of 1000, the EXCOM defers to the preference list that is submitted to it by the regional, state-level admissions committee. What happens is, at the end of an interview week, on Thursday night and Friday morning, the state admissions committee comes up with a preference list and then submits it to the UW EXCOM for a vote. This happens online or by teleconference, and usually takes about 10 or 15 minutes from submission to formal acceptance. It's basically a rubber stamp of the state admissions committee's decision.

I agree that admissions are probably very busy. My guess is that they were only able to review a handful of students and make a decision for them. The rest are still under consideration. I think it is safe to say that the Seattle cohort will hear back in March since decisions must be made for each WWAMI site at the end of the week for the rest of February. See you guys / gals in a month or if I see anything in my Communication Status in my portal 😛

People accepted in January: have any of you received your UWNet ID or been contacted by AMCAS for your background check?

Nope but I think in the email or one of the links mentions sometime in February they'll start sending out emails about setting up the UWNet ID

Pretty sure the SUC I got was not this nice sounding. This one sounds like they actually discussed you, mine sounds like "yeah we haven't touched yours yet..." I'm happy with it either way lol.

Are there any current OOR students available to answer questions? I'd appreciate some guidance!

I was accepted back in November, and I received the invitation to make a UW net ID like two weeks ago via snail mail. I'm not completely sure why they didn't just email me. I'm guessing it takes a while?

Gave up my Montana WWAMI interview last week. Good luck to everyone interviewing next week!

Hey I have a question for you guys. I ended up not submitting a couple of secondaries because I ran out of money (basically had a large emergency expenditure I wasn't expecting). If I am rejected from all my schools this cycle and decide I do want to apply to those schools again did I shoot myself in the foot by applying then not submitting a secondary there? It was never my intention to not submit secondaries but I don't know if the school would understand/appreciate that or even track that information. Let me know if anyone knows anything.

Here’s what I’d do if I were you. Most if not all schools have a question of reapplication for you in the secondaries, I’d def mention/think through these things
1. You should consider yourself a reapplicant even though you didn’t apply or submit your secondaries to XSOM. As long as you submitted your AMCAS, at least I would consider myself a reapplicant.
2. State solid reasons why you want to pursue the school
3. With my strong interest to this school, it was unfortunate that I had financial issues, that’s why I couldn’t afford secondary fees or interview traveling fees.
4. Possibly say you’ve worked during your reapplication yr to gain more financial stability.
I’d end on a strong positive note of again why you want to go to XSOM

If schools reject you bc of this reason, it’s not worth it to go there for 4 yrs anyway.

I definately second mybluedog. There were a few schools that I interviewed at where it seemed like almost everyone was a reapplicant. I don't know if reapplicant status helps you get looked at, but it sure seemed like that at some of the schools.

@BABSstudent

Does anyone know if sending in a tentative acceptance will affect our placement site? I picked Seattle as my preferred site and interviewed in Seattle. If I turn it into a firm acceptance, am I more likely to get Seattle? I'm just wondering if they would give preference to applicants who gave them firm acceptances, since they would then have less logistics to worry about.

It shouldn’t affect anything. It also doesn’t affect financial aid. It’s more about the school’s logistics about their waitlist.

Take this with a massive grain of salt, but I've heard multiple times from current UW medical students and faculty that being a reapplicant is actually a positive at UW as long as you've significantly improved your application.

Apparently they have a slight preference for people with a year or two out of undergrad who have some "real world" experience (again, don't quote me on that). Also identifying the flaws in your app and working to improve them shows honest self-reflection and dedication.

Had my TRUST interview this week on Feb 6 at Spokane, (UW TRUST applicant) but have not heard anything since then...is it safe to say that if I didn't get a call today then I was rejected?

Probably. If you were from one of the other states, then definitely, yes. (Wyoming applicants who didn't hear back today: you were rejected). I'm not sure how it goes with the state of Washington though. There might be a one-in-ten-thousand chance that you'll get a call over the weekend, but don't hold your breath.

Darn. My interview didn't go well so that probably explains it...

Any other WA TRUST applicants hear back yet?

I don’t think we are suppose to hear back until next week. My interview did not go well either so I’m expecting an email.

Also interviewed for TRUST last week and felt like my interview didn't go very well haha. Haven't heard anything.

Does anyone have an idea of what proportion of people are rejected/accepted in the middle of the cycle as opposed to at the end? Like, are 90% of people SUC'ed until the end or are your chances of acceptance significantly better if you "make it" until March without being rejected? Also, I'm really sorry if this question has been asked a million times; I know there was a document at one point on previous threads but I can't seem to access it. I also recognize that knowing the stats won't help my chances but alas....

I remember reading or hearing from somewhere 80% of the entering class didn’t hear until March, meaning SUC’ed.

But everything with a grain a salt, my friend!

Might not be the right place to post this but, here goes. I've currently been hired at as a research tech at a private science institute in Seattle. I'll be working there from Summer of 2018 to Summer of 2019. I'm applying this upcoming cycle, or Summer of 2018. I've read some material about residency for in state and its a little vague if its supposed to be a year's worth of living in WA before applying or before matriculation. Can anyone shed any light? If I claim that I'm in state and I'm not (due to misreading) what happens? Can I even apply as in-state? WASHU doesn't seem to have a registrar number I can call and ask, assuming due to such high call volume.

Check this out: Residency Requirements | Office of the University Registrar

All UW affiliate institutions follow a 1 year rule where you have to be working as a non-student (they want you to demonstrate you are in WA for reasons other than education). I think what you have described should be fine. To answer your question about establishing residency before applying:

Applicants must "Physically reside in the state for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the first day of the quarter students are seeking residency." ie before you start classes so I think you should be fine applying as a resident if you know you can prove it at the appropriate time. UW for sure has a registrars office so call them and see what they and other people say too since this is just based off of skimming the website.

I would also contact Office of Admissions via phone or e-mail. I hope this helps!

I'm not sure about the question about before applying/before matriculation, but I had a similar situation where I was genuinely uncertain if I would be approved for residency on UWSOM terms for other reasons. I put WA on my AMCAS application during the cycle, and they followed up with a request to validate the residency, which had to be done before my secondary application would be considered complete. It was ultimately approved but I doubt all residency requests are since it was a pretty intense process-feel free to PM me for advice if that's possible here! I don't know of anything bad that would happen if it wasn't approved, other than maybe having to change your AMCAS state of residence/missing out on residency in the state you feel more confident about your status, but ask the residency office to be sure.
