Yeah, or even Wed/Thurs. From the past two years, it looks like it's usually the Wed/Thurs the week after the Idaho interviews. This year, Idaho is now through March 1, so my guess is next week.

Man, waiting since November has been rough for me, but I am glad an answer will be here soon

Did anyone receive a request for a photo from the admissions office? Did we take photos during the interview? I can't remember...

You upload a photo when you select your preferred interview date. They might just not have one on file for you. Some ppl on my interview day took pictures, it seemed like they didn’t upload or something along those lines.

Hey, at least you know they are paying attention to your app

So ya’ll think adcoms would be meeting this Friday?? Acceptance news weds/thurs and SUC or rej Friday?

Has anyone gotten confirmation that their background check has been received? I’m just curious if they send that out.
I e-mailed mine and was e-mailed back the same day confirming their receipt. However, in my e-mail to them, I did ask that they let me know that they received it.

As to the photos post, I had to upload one to the portal to schedule my interview. They still also took one on interview day.

Good luck to those waiting! March 15th is getting closer!

Oh sorry I meant the Certiphi background check that gets released after 10 days.

Certiphi should e-mail you when the background investigation is complete. You can view it for up to ten days after it is complete and before it becomes available to medical schools.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Does UW send any confirmation to us that they received the Certiphi background check?

No. I did not receive any confirmation e-mails stating that they received the background from Certiphi.

I got notification from UW that my background check had been complete and that they received my release forms.

Oh okay. How long did the email take after Certiphi released your background report?

They sent me an email about receiving release forms ages ago but I haven’t heard anything else.

All you acceptees cetriphi questions causing me anxiety lmao.

lololol sorry. I’ve heard of schools not getting the background check even after the release so it’s making ME anxious

Ah sorry my mistake! I got notification that my self-disclosure and consent forms were received. Nothing about Certiphi

As I try to sleep at night, I find myself jolting up as my mind revisits the awkward parts of my interview and the weird sounding sentences displayed in my secondaries. :uhno:

I’ve replayed awkward moments=stupid moments of my interview infinity and beyond times. I feel ya cat foe.

Can anybody elaborate on housing options? I know Seattle can be expensive. Even the graduate housing at UW seems pricey. I'd like to stay in the 700-1000/month range for either a studio or a room in a shared house/apartment. Is this feasible?

I would look into a micro studio and or room shares. Room shares are definitely an option for that specific range. There is also a link train which means you can get further away from north and central Seattle opting to live down south.

From a prior student there, you can’t really do graduate housing since they won’t let you move in until school starts but technically the medical school starts a month prior to that. You will also need to enter a waiting list which is frustrating with the level of uncertainty that entails.

You need roommates and to be further from the school if you want to pay that little. I have a two bedroom about two miles northwest from the school and pay $1600 but it’s an older building and not very nice on the outside. Split that with someone else and you could get to your price range. A studio or single bedroom will be near the top of your price range or over it.

So... I went through the last four years' threads to get a sense of what to expect. Not sure whether I'm calmer or more anxious now, but I figured it would be useful to share what I found.

Each of the last four years, the final WA decisions came out the week after the last regional interviews (the equivalent of this week). In 2014 and 2015 there were a lot of changes to the portals (e.g. disappearing tabs) during decision week that people read into, but I think they used a different portal system back then so it might not be relevant anymore, so I didn't make note. The timelines I pieced together were:

Four years ago (2014):
  • First acceptance call was Tuesday evening
  • Another acceptance call on Wednesday
  • Rejections and alternate decisions (with rank) sent out Friday
Three years ago (2015):
  • It was rumored and even somewhat verified that EXCOM meeting was Mon-Wed
  • First acceptance call was Tuesday evening
  • More acceptance calls Wednesday
  • Rejections and alternate decisions (with rank) sent out Wednesday
Two years ago (2016):
  • First acceptance call Thursday in the evening
  • More acceptances came out Friday
  • Weekend of silence
  • Monday, one acceptance (perhaps they weren't called, it came out the same time as...)
  • Monday, alternate decisions (with rank) sent out
  • Monday, seemingly ~15 minutes after the alternate decisions, came the rejections
Last year (2017):
  • Acceptance calls Wednesday in the evening (I'm assuming -- they appear timestamped as Thursday, but it looks like they were posted in the early morning, so I'm assuming they were called Wednesday evening)
  • On Thursday, alternates saw a new portal tab ("Admissions Decision") telling them they were alternates, but no position
  • On Friday, alternates were given their ranked position, and rejections were sent out
I'm hoping for a 2015-like year where we know what's happening, it's short and sweet, and there's not a delay between the acceptance calls and alternate/rejects. I'm hoping it's NOT a 2016-like year, where next weekend will be ruined for everybody held in silence.

I also found a table in the 2014 thread that will soon be relevant for many -- a list of the number of WA/OOR alternates pulled (and year): 41 (2013), 43 (2012), 45 (2011), 40 (2009), 32 (2008), 34 (2007), 40 (2006), 29 (2005), 31 (2004), 39 (2003), 33 (2002), 47 (2001), 33 (2000)

Ok, yeah, I'm not sleeping this week 😱

My god. Thanks for the stats.

This post should be titled: our unhealthy relationships with sdn

Hoping the best for us all!!

I agree, it will be really tough to find a decent studio/one bedroom close to the school for that budget. I spent a few years paying about $800-850 (rent raise) for a bedroom in a two bedroom with roommates in a nice neighborhood on the light rail a little south of UW, maybe a half hour commute from home. That was before the cost of parking (>100 per month and street parking could take half an hour easily) and I still felt really lucky. That was very much on the low end. BUT, it was incredibly easy to get to UW by light rail and a really nice place to live! I would look into a room in a house if you want to come in under your budget and also live reasonably close to UW. Anywhere on the Link light rail would be an easy commute and I would check the bus routes too.

The best option is to find someone(s) to live with. It makes everything so much cheaper. Maybe start on the UWSOM FB page?

Thanks for the great info! Any ideas how many rejections they send out at that point? I'm curious as to how big the still under consideration group is and what bodes for us...

I wasn’t exactly encouraged lol. I didn’t keep track but my perception was rejects > (or maybe ~) alternates >> acceptances. I’m not sure how ascertainment bias in who posts would play into that, though.

Gulp.

Gulp, indeed. I did speak with someone at admissions and they certainly underscored that being in SUC was a good thing. I think someone mentioned earlier (and I think it was mentioned at my interview) that about half the class is admitted in March. In any case, I hope we all get the news we want.

Ok yeah, thanks for your encouraging comment. Lol. I think that makes sense, as even being SUCed until the end, we still avoided a lot of the rejections that have already come out -- so we've survived something, at least.

And I do think few people who are accepted this late in the game make it to SDN to report their acceptance, so I don't think the numbers posting are a very valid indicator.

Also, with the number of alternates that end up accepted, a lot of the people who weren't outright accepted after the final EXCOM are still ultimately accepted.

So I retract my previous complete pessimism, to replace it with a more restrained pessimism 😀

Looks like it is the home stretch... finally... :bag: Just to reiterate several previous posts and data, if you are on the alternate list with a ranking of 25 or less, you pretty much secured a spot with UWSOM

As someone from OOR, I look forward to being here, but statistically speaking, it may not happen. If not, I will attend a school near home. Good luck to everyone! #godawgs

Graduate housing sounds brutal! Thanks for sharing. I figured that I'd be in for a roommate situation. Does the school help you find roommates to live off campus by chance?

During my visit day current students also said graduate housing was a bad option. But I was just looking at the website and it looks like you can find rooms for ~$900-$1200/month that include wifi, furniture, and access to a gym? I'm not crazy about having dorm furniture but this seems like a pretty good deal. Is this really more expensive than finding housing independently?

It's a pretty good deal, but you may be able to find something of equivalent value privately. Graduate housing also subjects you to oversight by the school, which is a negative for some people. UW students have a peculiar aversion to on-campus housing, or at least that is what I gathered during undergrad.

I was offered an OOR tuition waiver today. Yay!
Alex, how did you find out about your OOR tuition waiver? I'm also OOR and interviewed back in January. I emailed UW about financial aid, since it'll be a big factor in my decision, but I haven't gotten a response yet.

They informed me via email. Cost is a huge factor in my decision too. I called the financial aid office a few times in between my acceptance and the waiver email asking for more specific details about aid, how the waivers are awarded, scholarships, etc. I probably called at least 3 times. They were very helpful and receptive. If you want more details, feel free to PM me

Also, 4 cups of coffee a day, is a bit much no? lol

I think I liked the idea as well in terms of it being a good deal and all but I'd probably prefer to live off campus as well though I guess I'm concerned about buying furniture etc. Don't really look forward to hauling in my own bed frame, couch, dresser, etc.
