Any intput?

I remember checking mine in the morning and it was the normal status, then checking after my interview invite and it had changed - I’m not sure at what point in changed, though.

It was the same for the decision - portal changed after I got the email regarding it, but definitely hadn’t changed an hour or two before that.

It doesn’t change before you receive correspondence.

pretty sure it did for some people in this thread a few months ago

unless the email/decision was just delayed from the portal update at that time

Perhaps, I doubt it is a significant period of time. Probably just a technical delay between the portal and email, if anything.

Good luck!

Wake is my top choice by far, and considering the near-total silence of my current I'm considering doing an SMP. Does anyone have experience with WFU's SMP? Will that help my chances of getting into WFSOM? I know the application deadline is coming up.

On another note, is it possible to hone in on the mental frequencies of Wake Forest Adcoms and incept myself an interview invite? Please advise.

What's an SMP?

On the latter, connect two electrodes to your frontal lobe, set to 98.4 GHz and wait for the magic... :=|:-):

I know a fair portion of Wake’s entering class does hold a masters degree - 10% or so. However the “post bacc” Masters SMP from Wake has changed drastically in the past couple years as I understand it.

I know a couple people in the current/past SMP at Wake. They do not recommend it as a platform to get accepted at the WFUSOM. The program is moving away from its medical school affiliation ala “post-bacc program” and towards being a traditional graduate program with an emphasis on biomedical sciences.

The connection to the med school rested on one physician-advisor to the admissions committee who served as the head of the SMP for some time. Now she is no longer the head of the program and has little contact with the students. The program is now housed completely in the graduate school, and run by people without the same connection to the school of medicine or adcom. It is likely the adcom won’t even know you are in the program unless you put it on your application, and even then it is not looked at any differently (positively/negatively) than any other SMP you may do. IE you won’t reap the benefits of having your progress in the program being relayed to the adcom with hopes of increasing your chances of medical school admission during the year you are enrolled in the SMP. It will not have any affect on your application until the year after you finish the program and your grades are posted, as any other post-bacc program would.

In short, no it will not help you get into Wake’s school of medicine any more than another SMP anywhere would.

Also— one last note: As with many SMPs, the program is specifically geared towards URMs and nearly all of the students accepted are URMs or come from economically disadvantaged circumstances. Just an FYI, because it will not specifically say this on the application.

Hope this helps.

Complete silence since completion in early August. OOS, mediocre ties to the area (at best). GPA 3.8+, MCAT 505-510. Are they receptive to letters of interest??

Complete in August and have not heard back yet either.

Hello All. I submitted secondary in July. I just received my interview invite today and was looking to get some info. Around how long after the interview should I find out about the decision? I haven't scheduled the interview yet, but I have a December 15th deadline to pay a deposit for another school. I doubt I'll hear back from WF before then. Also, has anyone else set up any future interviews?

It took just over two weeks for me to get my decision. Wake is an awesome school!

Thanks, that is quite helpful @Sawbones_11

If I did an SMP, do you know what programs I should consider?

@kvroby What SMP did you do? (If you don't mind sharing or PMing me)

I believe the AAMC has some recommended programs on their website. I can't recommend one over the other, but pretty much all of them have some sort of thread or presence here on SDN-- so you could start there for insight.

Fingers crossed that some of us hear back today about decisions! Acceptance please 🙂
I would not be shocked if we don't hear back until next week. It seems like they met to discuss 2018 IIs earlier this week. I'm guessing that both 11/13 and 11/20 will be released together, given that they are the last interview dates for the year, and thanksgiving break probably threw a wrench in things.

Agreed. I was part of the 11/20 group and we were told that we'd hear back "before the end of the month".

Sooooo excited/nervous for decision day (dun dun dun) tomorrow! Good luck everybody!

Complete since early August and total silence for me as well. IS, reapp.

Thanks for the feedback. We are going to review everything about the interview day in December and I'll be sure to take these points into consideration.

Hello @Pathdocmd,

We were told on interview day that some waitlist movement may occur in December this cycle. Is there any indication this may indeed occur?

Thanks in advance.

I did my SMP at UCF. Its the Biomedical sciences with Neuroscience track. They are opening up more tracks a well. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone! Is there any idea of how many students WFSOM puts on the waitlist vs how many they accept from the WL? Adored WFSOM but got waitlisted... hoping to give my placement some context!

This info is found on the AAMC MSAR, I would post the number but my subscription recently expired. A good portion of the class is taken from the waitlist from what I remember.

~30% of each class at Wake is made up of people accepted from the wait list. I have no idea how large the actual wait list is, but 30% of the class is around 40 people.

Does anyone know if they accept updates via email or portal?

When you submitted your secondary they sent you an email with instructions regarding updates. No grade updates and anything else is sent via email with no guarantee they will look at it.

Ahh got it thanks a bunch!

I want to know this so badly.

I'm also curious if Wake will let prospectives know which 1/3 of the waitlist they are on (even though I know that's not the major indicator), if asked.

I know someone who contacted admissions recently. The response was that they expect there to be some waitlist movement in December.

Like everyone that was placed on the waitlist, I was given instructions to complete the financial aid information just in case.

Due to a complicated situation, I have not yet completed this. Does anyone feel as though this will impact whether or not one gets picked from the list? As in, "He/she hasn't completed the financial stuff yet, obviously he/she is not that serious about us."

I highly doubt it. That would be morally questionable.

I really doubt it because you don't NEED to complete this. If you know you're not going to get any financial aid, for example, you may never complete it. So schools can't gauge your interest based on it.

No. Financial aid information is not discussed and has never come up.
