Withdrawing my acceptance, I hope the seat goes to one of you who really love this school! Mizzou was, unfortunately, my worst interview experience. The acceptance letter I received in the mail with the wrong name really sealed the deal. I'm sure they're the right fit for some students, but just not for me.

I got the wrong name on my acceptance letter, too! Oops.
 
Does anyone know how many they are accepting into their incoming class this year? Didn't know if it was going to go up like last year's did.

I am! This may be unrealistic, but I am really hoping that I receive news of an acceptance before second look day. I really, really want to go to MU and I want to be able to go to second look day!

Apparently last year was "low" movement and they made it through the top third and some of the second third. I think most movement will happen early April based on what I've heard from last year. The wait is killer!

My impression was that this was amount of movement for the IS applicants, but I could be wrong. Do you know if that applied to OOS applicants as well?

Hate to obsess over this, but MU is one of my two waitlists, and I'm still waiting to hear back from my only other interview, so I've got a lot riding on Mizzou! :nailbiting:

I'm not entirely sure because the ambassadors I talked to were both IS. I was under the impression that they were speaking generally. You could try contacting an ambassador through their website. Student Ambassadors - University of Missouri School of Medicine They have bios on all the ambassadors and you could try contacting someone who was OOS to see their take on it.

Last year, I heard that they only got to the top-third for OOS. Because Mizzou has to have a certain number of IS, some IS people in the middle-third got accepted before OOS people who were in the top-third. This year though, there's 128 in the class from 112, so hopefully there will be more movement in general! 2 years ago, they accepted people from the bottom-third.

My letter didn’t say anything about the class size. I got it a couple months ago, so maybe they didn’t know at that time. Last I heard (at interview) it was going to be 112 again due to funding issues. Good to know they got the funding to extend the class size.

Thanks for sharing the class size update! That definitely increases my optimism for getting some OOS movement from the waitlist. Here's to hoping! :xf:

I wonder how with the changes in the aamc, in regards to how many seats you can hold until a certain date, how the movement timeline will be affected. I just hope it doesn't push the movement back even further!

I hope someone else will confirm as well! Can't be sure if it wasn't a typo, seeing that they messed other people's names up on acceptance letters...

When I interviewed, I also heard 112 for the class size. This was back in October though, so it may have changed since then.
 
I just emailed Kevin Schaefer and inquired about the 2023 class size. I will post the reply.
 
Kevin already got back with me and said the class size is 112.

I’m not sure about Mizzou, but when I got my email from KU it stated that because of the new AAMC guidelines they were offering less initial acceptances, and made a longer waitlist. I’m not really sure how to take that though. It looks to me like they are expecting more initial acceptances to matriculate, but went ahead and extended their waitlist just in case they were wrong
 
I had also anticipated 112 based on my interview in January, and was surprised to see 128... Sorry fam 🙁
 
Just got an email from Kevin saying that we should hit "Commit to Enroll" to AMCAS on April 30... which doesn't seem very fair for people who are currently on other waitlists. I know he's not confusing it with "Plan to Enroll", which he says can to be submitted anytime from now until April 30.

He sent a follow up email. You can look at the guidelines from AAMC as well, because I think reading them all makes much more sense. You can only hold one acceptance on April 30, but unlimited waitlist positions!
 
Anyone care to share thoughts/impressions from second look? Would love to have gone myself, but I'm still hanging out on the waitlist!

I was already sold on Mizzou, so I might be a little biased, but I thought it went really well. I enjoyed all of my interactions with other incoming students and the professors seemed really chill and down to earth. The new building and facilities are all top notch. The mock PBL we did really solidified my desire to go to a medical school with that learning style. The M3’s and M4’s I talked to thought the curriculum really prepared them for the step 1. All the current students said they think the curriculum really allows them to make their own schedules and study when and how it works for them. I don’t think you could go wrong going to Mizzou, no matter what your other options are, especially if you are instate. Even if you are OOS, you can get instate status after your first year.

I was talking to one of the instructors at 2nd look day, and I believe he said they had accepted around 6 off the IS waitlist, and either 1 or none off the OOS waitlist. I’m guessing most movement will happen right after the AAMC April 30th “choose your school” deadline.

I did not realize there were two waitlists. I wonder how many are on the OOS waitlist

OOS waitlisted applicant here. As best I can tell, I don't think there are actually two separate waitlists. My waitlist email said that I was placed on the "112 person alternate list," and given that MSAR shows only 75 OOS applicants getting interviews for the last cycle, this would seem to indicate that the alternate list is composed of both IS and OOS applicants.

My best guess is that the person who said that 6 have been accepted from the IS waitlist and 1/0 from the OOS waitlist just meant that they've pulled 6 IS and 1/0 OOS from the combined waitlist. Since IS withdrawals have to be replaced with IS waitlisters to maintain class composition, it makes sense to think about IS/OOS waitlisters separately, even if they're part of the same 112-person list.

I'm speculating here, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I agree with almost all of this, just to add some more clarity/speculation...
(below is everything I've pieced together from interview day, previous threads, and general knowledge)

Mizzou (as a publicly regulated SOM) has a mandated restriction/cap on amount of OOS acceptances it can give that (I assume) the board of directors decides yearly. (Source: Kevin mentioned this at interview day, stated the amount of OOS students will be between 10-20% of class depending on what board decided, didn't specify whether it was admissions board or board of directors but again, assume it was directors, and I assume this is a conscious choice, and not one that just works out based on amount of interviews-to-acceptances ratio). After the first 112 offers have gone out, and the 112 (or however many) member wait list is built, it would seem that the wait list movement happens in descending order. Pretty obvious stuff right?

My guess for the handling of OOS is that they simply have a hard number they're trying to hit and stay at/under. Say the board said a max of 25 OOS will get to matriculate this year, and maybe right now there's 90x IS A's and 22x OOS A's floating around. Regardless of whichever pool the first withdraw comes from, the first A's to go out probably go straight down the wait list. Now, after 10 spots w/d and 10 A's have gone out to #1-10 on the wait list, the composition of nebulous A's are 87x IS and 25x OOS, meaning the cap has been hit. Now any future A's handed out will ONLY go to IS, as evidenced in years past where OOS in top third were skipped over.

Just some speculation on my part so please apply salt grains freely.

Ya I don’t think there are two actual Lists, but when an IS person declines they fill that spot with an IS state waitlisted applicant. And when an OOS applicant declines an offer, they accept an OOS applicant off the waitlist. So, although there are not two separate waitlists, there might as well be.
 
Has anyone heard anything from financial aid? I was hoping they’d get it to us today or before, since as of today we’re supposed to narrow it down to 3 acceptances.

Thanks! That’s my plan then, since no schools have actually specified April 15. Here’s to getting financial aid here sooner rather than later, so I can make a well informed decision by April 30!

The email from DeAnna Fuller says that award notices will be prepared the week of April 15th. So, it looks like they are giving themselves all week to send them out.
 
Thanks! Mine is also just loans. I was really hoping for some sort of scholarship even if it would be small. Anyone have scholarships posted, and does anyone know if some scholarships are awarded later?

Wondering this, too! It will really help me make a decision. Or if this is as good it’s going to get then that will be good to know.
 
Received an email saying my financial aid was completed; sad to see it was only loans. I was accepted pretty early and am from a lower income background so this was really disappointing.
