I just checked my portal on a gut feeling and noticed that they posted an interview invite!

I didn't receive an e-mail about it, so I'm not sure what is going on, but I encourage y'all to check your portal as well! Complete 7/24, IS (based on previous thread comments).

EDIT: I checked my junk mail and the e-mail was there. 🙂

Congrats to everyone! Good to hear UNC has started the interview cycle. Unfortunately I still have to wait for my committee letter to be released before I can be complete.

Dude, do you still have the fee waiver request pending review? It's been that way for me for awhile and I am not sure when it will update.
I asked about it and they said the people who normally do these are swamped rn

II, Submitted 7/16, in-state LM 73

Does anybody know how many get interviews and how many of those get accepted?

Congrats! Did you get the II this morning? MSAR says that 500 IS applicants and 140 OOS applicants get interviews. I have no idea how many acceptances are given.

Pretty sure both Brody and UNC have IS acceptance rates after interview of around 30-40%. So not great but not completely horrible.

Brody will have 100% IS acceptance rate after the interview because they only accept NC residents.

Lol I know (and technically its 100% IS matriculation). I was referring to the post-interview acceptance rate as the OP was asking not for IS vs OOS breakdown but for the # of acceptances handed out compared to # of interviews handed out.

Gotcha! That makes sense. And I know Brody usually makes about 135 acceptance offers to fill its class of 80!

Are you IS applying to both as well?

Its nice for us NC folks that we have two public in-state medical schools (one top 20!) that have low tuition compared to most state schools. The ****ty part is that both don't have great post-interview acceptance rates (though getting an interview at both isn't terribly hard relatively speaking). Also they both are kind of weird from what I hear in choosing those post-interview acceptances.

Yeah I’m applying to both. I haven’t heard back from ECU. But I’m also applying to Campbell’s DO program. It seems strong as well. And all we can do is our best!!

What are your stats?

I submitted 7/23 and got the portal update 7/30. Still waiting for II over here! IS, LM 69

Am I missing something here? My application status only says that a payment was received. I submitted 7/31, but unlike most schools I don't see a "secondary complete" message or anything. My status page is pretty bare. Is this what most people had?

Yep, the payment received means complete, and UNC’s portal is just that one page.

There is a portal page they provide too but I can’t seem to log into it. Anyone else have troubles with it?

Congrats to everyone who got an II! I was wondering if you don't mind sharing your stats? Also re-applicant or not? I think they review those later.

+1

Hey, y'all. How long did you have to wait for a secondary application invite after your AMCAS was verified? Mine has been verified for two days. I have received almost all other secondaries from 26 schools I applied to, but I haven't heard from UNC-CH. Thanks!

It took about 10 days to get UNC's secondary

Mine wasn't quite ten days, I think maybe 6, but definitely one of the longer ones! Don't stress yet!

tell me more about what you've heard lol

Well, both have in-state post-interview acceptance rates of ~30% which is decently low when compared to most medical schools. I meant that one school (ECU) has a very specific mission/vision and takes a particular type of applicant. For those applying to that school I have heard that stats don't really mean much apart from meeting a particular benchmark, which is probably low enough to include anyone that they think can succeed in medical school.

And while UNC might have a national reputation and be a top 20 school, they also aren't stats obsessive for IS applicants (like they won't just take high stat people like some state medical schools do).

All in all, one probably needs to have a complete package and show how they perfectly fit each school's mission and vision in the interviews to have a good chance. I have a feeling that being a cookie-cutter pre-med with high stats isn't going to be enough for either school (from the experience of many people that I know). I actually know more people that ended up going to a private school or OOS school rather than getting into UNC or ECU. Some people even go as far as saying that ECU is, in some ways, harder to get into than UNC.

Hello everyone!

Does UNC send "application complete" emails?

Thanks!

I don't think so. I received an e-mail titled "UNC School of Medicine - Supplemental Process Information" the day after submitting, but that's the only e-mail I received from UNC after submitting, until the II.

Gotcha. I received that email after submitting the secondary back in July, but I would not have been complete until about a week ago because I was waiting on a committee letter. I haven't received any notification since my letter was sent, and there is nothing about it on the status page. I called Friday but no response, but I think I will call again tomorrow. Thank you for your response!

II Complete end of July LM 66 IS re-app interviewed last year as well hoping for better luck this time. Dates are in oct Monday and Fridays
How did the interview go last year? On the interview day link it says there will be "1 traditional one-on-one interviews" so I'm confused because of the plural "interviews". Lol. Was it just 1 or 2? Thanks

Thank you! I know there's at least one, although I can't remember which school right now.
UC Irvine if I recall correctly. Tripped me up so badly when I copy and pasted from Google Docs and was so far under limit.
