2018-2019 University of Toledo College of Medicine

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They never do last year I submitted my application in July and didn't get an invite till the end of February

That's good to hear. Do you know how they order applications by any chance?
If it looks like II aren’t being sent in order then I wonder if there’s a good chance that people are being filed to different piles where they then go through more rounds of reviews until they end up In the reject pile or the II pile

Hi I am trying to see if I should apply to the MEDSTART program at University of Toledo. I wanted to know if I have a good chance at getting into the program and If I should/shoulnd't get my hopes up.

Volunteer at a free clinic: 12 hours (will have just started this)

Is it worth submitting this anymore if I'm three weeks since receiving Secondary and OOS?

Lol of course it is. You already put in the work. I know of maybe 1-2 schools max that have strict deadlines for secondary submission after 2 weeks. The rest just recommend 2 weeks like this school.

I also just submitted this week after almost a month

Could any one elaborate on the general schedule for interview day? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Realized this is all under the portal

I already filled these out for their med start program that I got an interview invite for but couldn't attend lol. Should I just re-use? They obviously liked my responses previously, and nothing has changed that I would like to add.
What did you say for the cultural competency essay?

Does anybody know if they are receptive of in the area email? I’m flying to ohio on a 5 hours flight

Those of you who received interviews, did you receive a complete message or just a green checkmark on the status page?

I received a complete email and green check mark the same day I submitted my secondary. I received the II less than a week after submitting my secondary.

Hi guys, current M1 here. Even though we literally just started classes this week and there is still a lot for me to learn about Toledo, I'll try to answer any questions you guys may have. The application process is still pretty fresh in my head.

Do you have any particular advice about interview day? I've never done a MMI, so I'm kinda nervous...

There's not too much you can do when preparing for an MMI interview, but do go over a few example questions so you can get the hang of articulating a well thought out response. Don't worry too much though, Toledo's MMI is pretty relaxed and a lot less stressful than other places, like Cincinnati's. There were no ethics question when I interviewed but look back at some of the older threads to see if that holds up. Thankfully UT gives you a notepad and pen to write down your thoughts so that you can use it as a reference in case you totally forgot what you were going to say once you get in the room. Don't stress too much, I nervously played with the pen when I was interviewing and accidentally flung it across the room and I still got in.

How long did it take y'all to get a secondary? I've been verified about a week (in-state) and still nothing from here, one of the last ones I'm waiting on...

For the third essay, did you guys only mention just one experience? I feel like 700 words is a lot of space to write about just one specific experience.

I wrote in depth about one experience and only used about 450 words but I also don't have an interview here so don't know if that was a good idea or not.

I wrote about one experience and then discussed what influenced my actions in that situation. My essay word count was just under 400 and was my longest essay. It worked for me, and I was able to include a good amount of detail.

With all of my essays, I had someone look over them and point out exactly where they found the answers to each part of the prompt. If they could not do this, then I would expand my essay to ensure I captured the part of the prompt I left out originally.

Although I submit my secondary early July, I got an email from UT asking me to fill out their secondary. Same as the first one I received. Anyone else get this?

What website or source do you think is the best way to prepare for the MMI, since there were no ethics questions? Interviewing this Friday!!

Are questions repeated from the year before? Not sure if it's different since it's MMI style

app has been verified for a week now and still waiting for a secondary.... maybe its bc im OOS but who knows

For some reason UToledo only has listed 2 of my 4 letters of rec, although it says on AMCAS that all 4 were sent to them. Is this just an error on the portal? I can't see why they wouldn't have them if they were sent through AMCAS...

Is anyone still waiting on a complete email? Submitted the secondary on 7/17. I immediately received an email saying they got the secondary, but would get another email when my application is considered complete. The portal also says my application is under review. Not sure if that's true though since I still haven't received the complete email...

Check your inbox. I got both emails at the same time. In fact, the complete email for me has an earlier time stamp than the email telling me I will receive a complete lol

Hmm, that's interesting. Yeah I double checked all my folders and for some reason I never got the completion email. Just the email where I received the secondary and the email telling me to expect a final completion email. Maybe I should contact them?

Same for me. Portal says under review but no complete email. Let me know if you contact and ask them!

Grew up in NW OH so this is my #1 choice. Submitted my secondary about 10 days ago. 509/3.83, CARS did a number on me. Hoping I get an II in the next couple of months. Good luck to you all!

Is this school just slow with II or do they roll them out in waves ?

Looking at the past year's thread I'd assume that they are just slow, typically 1-2 months but some that were less competitive were getting them as late as March. The slots are typically a few months out even after you get the II.

Can I talk to someone who has been accepted or received an interview at u of Toledo? I’m applying to their early assurance program and have some questions, and the admissions office hasn’t been good on getting back to me.

Thanks!

IS resident who with an interview. Hoping MMI is kind to me. Any advice? Being able to take notes is very helpful to know, thank you!

I was very nervous about the MMIs, but my advice is not to worry! They really aren't bad at all! Toledo gives you a notepad to jot down some notes before you enter the room Good luck on your interview!

Thanks for doing this! Did you send a thank you note post-interview?

Was anyone on the ready for review stage? Mine jumped right into under review after I submitted the secondary ... is that normal?
