Does anyone else have it or not have it? I'm freaking out trying to figure out what it means.
 
Nothing on my end! Was hopeful for a quick turnaround but as I said earlier, just the first release date!

An official offer should come first via email or phone before this vague portal update. In my opinion, this causes unnecessary confusion and they can easily do better than this. I feel like this can be a quick fix that limits chaos.
 
are we basically assuming no update means no acceptance this round? bummed but also i know this is just the first batch

Its more than likely that the information on the file status is just automatically set to show up based on the website reading some applicant database info. The AdComms are probably not even aware that this status appeared because they arent the ones who coded the website.

Yeah but my point is that they should be aware of it and should try to change it. I just think getting into med school is a big deal and it sucks to find out this way. It's not cool. We shouldn't have to assume one thing or another at this stage.

I'm also not sure why anyone of you guys would be opposed to this suggestion! It's not some outlandish and unrealistic wish. It's something the Admissions team can easily fix once they are aware of it.

I completely agree that this is the worst way to let us know. But I do understand why they might not have even had the opportunity to see that this would happen with all the admissions craziness probably happening right now.

I can agree with that on the most part. But it also seems like people posted about this happening in 2017-2018 and 2016-2017 threads as well, so they should be aware of it by now. And if they are not I'm just bringing attention to it!!!!!
 
Congrats to all with the update and the assumed acceptance. To the rest of us, we just have to keep pushing and realize that there are still 3 more dates and a WL. People that have interviews this early on usually get in at some point, and we just have to trust that. Does kinda suck the way we found out tho...
 
Upon my acceptance, the first page of the portal had a “congratulations we have selected you etc” note and matriculation fee tab. Not sure it’s an acceptance without those items? Can’t wait to meet you all!!!
 
At this point in the day, there's really no reason for anyone to assume that if you haven't gotten an update yet that you won't be accepted today. None of us actually know what's going on on their end or how their website system works. There's still hope for us today! And even if not today, there's hope for the next 3 acceptance dates to come!
If we make too many assumptions this early on, we're all gonna have heart attacks before the acceptances are finished going out 😉

They definitely know-- In past threads (yes im neurotic) Dean Mission has explicitly said that tabs = acceptance. But I don't really understand the argument. For most schools the phone calls come first and then non acceptance emails are sent out usually a day or two after. I feel like absence of a phone call is worse than not getting tabs.

If you have tabs on your portal screen, why should you have to go on a third party site like SDN and lurk around looking for the meaning of them. This should be a celebratory moment instead of sitting behind a computer screen scrolling through feeds. Why can't it be it be as clear as possible? In the past, I've argued for clarity both ways. This would be an extension of that argument.
 
To clarify: when status changes are made to an applicant's file, those changes can be seen immediately by the applicant; however, if there are additional actions such as emails and further notices that will result from those actions that have been taken, but which are system generated, those will only be sent or seen once the system updates. The system updates at 6 PM EST.

Is it safe to believe that the appearance of the file status on the portal means an acceptance?

I believe Dean Mission did confirm that it is indicative of an acceptance.
 
So what Dean Mission is saying is that if our portal still has the hold for possible acceptance status right now, then it is not going to change for the rest of the day, and we will not have an offer today, correct?

My portal still has the hold for possible acceptance right now. The change is the appearance of the file status notification.

Did anyone receive any R's today? Or is everyone just held until the end.
 
Ah okay, so if we don't have the extra tab as of right now, we won't have an offer today? That's what I meant to ask
 
So if there is the hold status AND the "file status" tab that has the vcu info and instate eligibility.... then thats an acceptance?
