Thanks for the input! I'll probably do some work with the food bank and volunteer rescue squad.
You need a more competitive MCAT.

Hi waitlist friends! Wanted to give y’all some hope, just got in off the waitlist so movement is definitely happing (I’m IS for those curious) good luck to you all!
Congrats! That was very fast. Did you get the standard “your portal has changed” email?

Hey guys, has anybody received any more information regarding the orientation website? I just want to make sure I haven't missed something. Thanks!

The only thing they sent out was that email about the pre-matriculation camp thing.

I cannot thank you enough for your real-time session. Very gracious of you! I've culled the following questions from the thread that I'm sure will be asked and am sending in advance in an effort to streamline and allow for more live "dialogue" tomorrow. Again, many thanks and apologies for the lengthy list below.

1. What number of seats in the class are already spoken for?
2. Is there an expected difference between in state and out of state waitlist movement?
3. When will acceptances from the waitlist start being made?
4. Will waitlist offers be extended via the portal or by phone or email?
5. How many applicants are on the waitlist?
6. How is it ranked/organized?
7. As an outstanding offer is declined how is that spot re-offered? Strict down the waitlist? Demographically matched, etc.?
8. Are LOIs /updates even looked at at this point?
9. If updates are in fact read, would it be helpful or hurtful for an applicant to advise that the applicant currently has no other offers?
10. What is the latest possible date one could receive an acceptance?
11. If one is on the waitlist now, has continued positive grade and activity trends during the final year of school, and has determined through interview/visits this cycle that VCU is absolutely his/her first choice, is it advisable to apply Early Decision next cycle if not offered a spot from the waitlist this year? In other words if the applicant has gotten this far is it safe to assume there are no major holes in the application such that yet another year of “ripening” is unwarranted before applying again?

4. Will offers be extended via the portal or by phone or email?

According to the people that have already gotten in, it's done via the portal and people are sent an email (at the typical 6:00 PM time) stating that their portal status has changed.

I know it's still early but... me.

Does anybody know if the inova campus still exists? Ive read in some places that they stopped sending students there, but they do still list tuiton on their site for this year. If so, how does placement work for that?

Hi @Dean Mission, thanks so much for the admissions Q&A! If possible, I was wondering if you could comment on the number of applicants currently on the Waitlist, and the number of offers you anticipate will be made to those on the Waitlist. Do you expect this year's Waitlist movement to be similar to years prior?

Hi @Dean Mission, thanks very much for the opportunity to ask questions! Will waitlist offers be made on Fridays or Mondays only (or any other specific days), or can it be any day in the week?

@Dean Mission I interviewed on one of the last days in March and there Dean Cook had said that about 100 acceptance offers were still to be made because of the new changes this year. Have all of those acceptances been given out already? Or are you pulling these acceptances from the waitlist? Thank you!

Hi @Dean Mission thanks so much for being here! I have a few questions:

1. Are letters of intent accepted by the admissions committee from people who are on the WL? If so, which email should we send this letter to?

2. How big is the WL for VCU? How many in-state vs. out-of-state offers does the committee typically extend from the WL? (I understand in case you can't disclose this info)

3. Does VCU offer any merit-based scholarships (not based on parental income) to in-state students? If so, what basis is this given on?

4. If we are currently on the waitlist, can we receive feedback from admissions on how to improve our application at this point in time?

Thank you again 🙂

1. All of them
2. Yes
3. Already happening
4. By portal, followed by email, at least until June
5. 250+
6. Selection Committee score
7. Not strictly down the priority scores, but as a rule by that number
8. Yes, but they may not have impact
9. It can be helpful information for admissions to know that info
10. Day of med school start
11. ED is a dicey proposition and is only advisable if you know you only want to got to that institution, since it freezes you out from applying until after October 1 at other institutions. If you know you only want to go to VCU, it might be a good option, especially if you received an interview in a previous cycle. At least you know your candidacy has some traction in that case.

See my answer above about number on the waitlist currently. I mostly expect waitlist movement to be similar as in years past, but things are slower this year to this point. I suspect things will really pick up in the next 3 weeks.

There have only been a handful of waitlist offers to this point. Everyone that will be invited to that list has been invited.

Can you say how many seats are left in the class--in other words--seats for which accepted students have NOT "committed to enroll?"

@Dean Mission I recall someone on interview day saying that you give out about 300 acceptances. Have you given all those out already? If not, how many are left?

1. LOIs can be sent to Dr. Cook and/or to the [email protected] email address.
2. see above answer
3. yes. It depends on the money that supplies the scholarship. Some are specifically categorized by interests as specified by the donor, other monies are less restricted and can be used on candidates that the School of Medicine deems meritorious.
4. Yes.

No, there are likely to be a fair turnover of seats as those currently holding seats re-prioritize their future based on other opportunities.

Wow. I did not expect all answers. That was very great. I really hope I get an offer off the list. Thank you dean

How many interviewees were there this cycle? How many acceptances from the waitlist were given last year? Thanks @Dean Mission
