2019-2020 Baylor

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
congrats! I got mine the next day

Thank you! Okay, I’ll try to believe that it actually happened until then (my mom literally asked me “are you sure it was you they wanted to call? Did they say your name to confirm?” When I didn’t get the email immediately after the call. She has so much faith in me )

I got the call yesterday and was told I’d be receiving the email on Thursday! Trying to wait patiently haha. Did they tell you when you would receive the email?

I got the call on a Wednesday and didn’t get the email until Friday so you may have to wait a few days. (And also funny story they actually did originally say a name that sounds similar to my name but is not my name when they said “Hi is this ***?” But it was actually for me, so there’s hope even if they do say the wrong name haha)

I thought they said today but I wasn't in a mental state to even understand what Dr. Johnson was saying hahahaha it seems like lots of people got the email a couple of days later so it's probably gonna come eventually

HAHAHAHA that's hilarious but also really scary 😀 I can't imagine the emotional roller coaster that must have been!

For the people that have already interviewed can you still access the pre-interview portal?

For those of y’all accepted,
First, congrats!
Second, did any of you send a letter of interest or intent?

Thank you!

I personally did not. They told us at the interview that they had everything they needed to make a decision and that they did not want us sending any additional information, but it seems like some people still are

I believe they sent out the rejections recently?
buncha pre-interview rejections top of this page & bottom of prior page.
In the past Baylor has let the interviewed (but not admitted) folks ride along till the end of the season and then eventually announce that their class is complete.

That actually is my interview date so I'll give it a shot haha
Well then be your most enthusiastic self! I know it is weird to be interviewing after Texas Match Day, but Baylor does offer spots to some folks at that February interview.
If you do have new stuff or updates since you sent in your Baylor app, that will just give you something to talk about at your interview!

This is a somewhat unusual question, but is there anyone admitted that wasn’t in the top 10 people (based on class rank) of their high school? I was just wondering after thinking about the people I know who are currently BCM students or were already admitted this cycle.

Are you trying to apply to one of their undergrad-to-medical school programs? for traditional applicants (applying from college), high school ranks do not matter, I assume

I'm sure high school has no significance. However, Baylor does ask in the secondary about information on ACT/SAT scores and class ranks.

Oh that’s right, I completely forgot that it was in the secondary

I was in the process of writing my letter of intent when I got the call hahaha
I think they usually don't want simple update letters but if you're writing a letter of intent, you can pack your updates into that as well.

I definitely wasn't. I don't think they care about that at all.

Do we know when they will send out another batch of As? Or when the next adcom meeting is?

Any idea what the timing is typically like between adcom meetings and decision releases?
No idea, just an applicant and this is what the associate dean told me at my interview. Probably means that the meeting today decides who gets accepted this month

This means they have “100” out of the 180 spots left.

keep in mind the lay person doesn’t use SDN all the time and pour over the charts on total acceptances.

they basically said that over half the class is still available
But wait, they tell us they are giving out around 300 acceptances, so now I’m confused

No need to be confused.
Just think of it that at the end of the whole year, by orientation day of the incoming class, a total of 300 people for example have been offered a place in Baylor’s class.
Baylor accepts some people.
Some stick with that offer.
Some have several offers and choose a different one.
Some accept the offer at first but then get an offer 3 months later that they prefer or has a scholarship.
Some are for some reason unable to matriculate.

Every time someone leaves the tentative class roster, replacements are considered and new offers made. This requires meetings and decisions and new offers aren’t announced all at once or immediately when a vacancy is created.
Total tally at the end of it all 300 offers were extended at one point or another.
Make sense?

Ohh okay thank you for the clarification!

But they’ve been accepting since October. To me it sound like a lot left at this point, when considering it’s been rolling.
The first acceptances went out in mid-late November and have been released in waves that happen around once a month (at least so far). As of now, I believe there's only been three waves. Definitely more to come.

Given the fact that they specifically mentioned total acceptances offered I wonder if they did mean ~100/300 are remaining.

On a side note I’ve been receiving 2-3 spam calls from Houston area codes per week and I really hate it.

Is it just me or has the adcom been especially quiet for some time
I don’t think so. They have been accepting people every mid-month since November and it is just now kind of mid-Feb

Thoughts on how STEP 1 becoming P/F will affect incoming students with schedules/dedicated/how much other things are going to matter for residency now?
Way too early to say. The announcement was just today! Part of how well this transition plays out will depend on how the schools react/adapt to their curriculum.

Isn’t the time between step 1 and step 2 at Baylor fairly brief? I wonder if they will adjust if step 2 becomes the “new step 1”.

Several schools saw step 1 transitioning its scoring, but pretty much no one predicted it to be this drastic in this short of a timeline.

baylor deans have discussed several possibilities, and are having meetings with students over the coming weeks to plan what the options will be.

By second look the school will likely be able to give you an idea of what Baylor will do as we transition into step being P/F (though I’m speculating as a current student).
