2019-2020 Harvard

I wonder if it's not so much them looking for your LinkedIn as it is them just generally checking you out online looking for any red flags. LinkedIn just happens to notify you.

was just about the say the same thing. Probably it's to check you're not full crazy and to check out what you post on social media/professional social networking sites

Personally I think that’s a little bit childish... I understand you don’t want to admit someone who is crazy on social media, but it feels a bit high schooly for them to monitor social media (LinkedIn makes sense but I’m assuming you’re all right they probably check everything)

Not sure about LinkedIn but I’ve heard a few admissions say they check Facebook just to be sure you don’t do things they wouldn’t be proud of. Some more conservative than others.

I think they're just covering their bases, you never know what someone has out there

Yeah I think it makes more sense in the wake of recent scandals, with people having admissions offers rescinded after their insanely racist/xenophobic views on social media were outed. I don't know of examples for that for Harvard's medical school, but there were a few with their undergraduate admissions that were in the news recently.

I was talking mostly about linkedin...like what can you put on there that isn't on your primary? How can someone be offensive on linkedin?

I have seen some people post some weird crap on LinkedIn.

When you put it that way, I can get where they’re coming from. Definitely don’t want racist, sexist people at your medical school. Do you guys think it would reflect poorly if we had private social media? My Twitter is private because I retweet a lot of political stuff and I don’t want to leave a sour taste in conservatives’ mouths...

No - all my social media accounts are private (except maybe for linkedin?). I think it's a smart move during the application season.

do you all know if admissions committees tend to lean right-wing/conservative, or does it vary a lot and all depend on who ends up screening your app how you'll be evaluated? I'm curious what they think of applicants heavily involved in political work that is more ostensibly left-wing (i.e. single payer, health disparities, etc.).

I was involved in politics, too. I've asked a few different advisers. You're fine. It explains another part of you.

I'm not linked with this person, so you could say I was more than confused as to why the LinkedIn algorithm decided to show it to me, lol.
Linkedin link many other applications can/ will draw from your browser, FB and other shopping, social, and pretty much any apps or browsing histories to create profiles on you to help source topics into your feed.

So even if you were researching cannabis related health issues, it would / could use it as a keyword.

FYI...
If you switch your social media accounts between private, friends, public posts, those poses will retain the privacy level from the timeout posting, even if you change your profile privacy settings later.

I haven't had social media since middle school, so I'm hoping Harvard won't see that and think I'm hiding stuff. Honestly doubt it makes that much of a difference, but hey, what am I using SDN for if not as an outlet for my neuroticism?

Actually Linked in profiles can provide additional insight beyond your application...
A viewer could see
>>others’ recommendations/endorsements of you that have been written
>>recommendations/ endorsements your have written for others
>>groups that you follow

I too was very worried about LinkedIn...never got to updating it and it has a photo of myself from 4 years ago along with experiences last updated in 2016. wouldn't stress too much about it 🙂

For what its worth, during my interview HMS students and faculty seemed very liberal.

So my interviewer stated that they had sub-committee meetings starting in October and if you passed that you got moved on to the main committee in February? Did anyone else catch this?

I'd imagine it's all witchcraft until march when the great culling occurs. Wasnt explicitly stated but I'm still going with that. I highly suggest a few sacrifices between now and then just to be sure. People from the parent support thread have at least one option. If you dont have that resource I'd imagine nephews and nieces are still valid.

If I feel a diminishing in my aura in the next couple weeks I'll let you know

Rats. Birthdate? How many words was your primary? How many toddlers could you take in a fight? Trust me I will compare how many I can take and make wild assumptions with no context to fuel the B-blocker industry.

I don't even know how to reply to your comment but please continue to grace us with your A+ haha posts on sdn!
😀

For those staying in Boston, have you guys been doing Airbnb or a hotel? I feel like the avg AirBnb price = cheapest hotel/inn in Boston.
:'(
What areas are good/bad?
