2019-2020 Loyola

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Complete since mid July. Stalking the portal like a hawk. Just sent in my update letter/letter of interest. I could make it in for any interview date. Come on Loyola 🙄
I am very skeptical about what people said earlier about the portal being used to determine interest.

It’s not going to be THE reason you get in. But if you’re right on the borderline I think it can push you over. It’s not JUST that. There are many ways to show interest and it’s one component.

The dean of admissions also mentions this (a bit in passing) in an interview by the Admissions Straight Talk podcast if you want to confirm for yourself.

Anyone that was placed on hold pre-II but received an interview later?
No — they receive 15000 apps it’s highly unlikey. While I’m sure it’s >0 last year no one reported getting a II after hold. The chances are low. Considering the bulk of people being invited we’re still complete in July / early August. But >0!

Bummer, thank you for the information!

Interviewed here yesterday and loved it!! Great student community, great faculty investment in student success, great opportunities to be involved in the surrounding community, great wellness resources, and the list goes on. Really hoping they liked what they saw too; this school is definitely at the top of my list after interview day 🙂

sorry if its not what you wanted to hear but I am of the belief in this process that sugar coating things just leads to false hope. Best to put your energy towards the most viable options.
I appreciate the honesty though!! My application status is "currently under review by the committee". Wondering if this is better than being on hold or worse...?

Interesting...I did apply relatively early though (July)
People on hold don't get II, or it is so low that it isn't reported here. Like i said >0. Everyone receiving II were still under review. They have a month more of II to go. It is not necessarily a "good thing" but it means you are sitting in a pile they are pulling from for II. This pile, im sure, has way more than 700 people in it. You could be the last person in the pile or the next, you never know until its over.

For context: Last cycle I was "under review" until I was rejected pre-II on 3/3. Now, the following cycle I am sitting here with an A.

Do they only start taking people off CC after the last interview? I have been trying to show my continued interest with updates and etc. I don't know if I should more or just hang tight and go from there.

Not necessarily people got off cc in December! Just hold tight , and it will pay off soon.

Hi all!

I've been "Your file has been initially reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. Your file will be held for further review later in the cycle." as of end of October with no news yet. I had my first interview of the cycle last week with another 3 coming up.

However, I am strongly interested in this school and would like to know if no news is good news and just continue waiting it out OR should I email them updating them of my interviews and expressing that I still have a strong interest at Loyola.

I appreciate any feedback; thanks in advance!

I wouldnt update them with your interviews.... but send in a letter of interest with updates so far

How much time is spent outdoors during interview day? Trying to figure out how many layers to bring haha

If I got a 3.5 GPA last semester would you recommend updating on grades or just make it more about interest?

Send it all! You can write a letter of interest and then add updates below. 2 in 1! And he’ll yeah I got into Loyola with a 3.5 so flaunt itttt

I applied in July and have since submitted two updates (last one beginning of this month). Do you think any other updates would be overkill?
Loyola’s philosophy — channeling dean nabers— is send them if you have them. If you have something new send it!! He talks about that in one of the podcasts.

Since it's been months since my interview, can any more recent interviewees comment on the curriculum? I've heard whispers that they're changing it, so I'm not sure if it's still the standard 2+2 traditional curriculum. Are lectures required?

In case you can't tell: I might or might not have misplaced my interview packet 🤣

Curriculum is NOT changing for our class. It is a 2+2 traditional curriculum. I have 2 very good m1 friends their right now and they are LOVING it, compared to some other friends I have in more accelerated curriuculums who are dying. It's essentially as traditional as it gets with Lectures and small group activities.

Here is a great overview. I would say the only real limitation is that there is almost 0 pre-clinical experience built into curriculum. PLENTY of opportunity but it is going to be outside the curriculum.

They really ease you in having 1 lecture, then 2 in a day then 3 etc. And the testing schedule is pretty manageable.

Lectures =not required
small group = required

Does anyone happen to know if Loyola has a second look day? I've browsed the website and can't seem to find it if they do... but I vaguely remember the person I spoke to when I got accepted mentioning a second look weekend or something like that... Thanks in advance for your help.

They definitely do. It was on April 5th last year, so I anticipate it being around the same date this year!

Does Loyola reject in a rolling basis or wait until the end to send it all in one go?
