So, for the Primary Care Track, I'm having trouble distinguishing between the two prompts:

"Describe the experiences you have had and any additional influences on your decision to apply to the OSU Primary Care Track three year program."

and then,

"Why are you interested in a Family Medicine specific accelerated program?"

I'm guessing this could be roughly distilled down to "Why OSU?" and then "Why practice family medicine?"

??

I just talked to one of my friends who is in the Primary Care Track, and you are correct! He said that the first question wants to know what makes OSU's primary care track the best fit for you, as there are several three year primary care options out there, while the second question wants to know why Family Medicine is the specialty you are committing to. OSU's goal is to have 0 program drop-out, so they want to make sure the candidates are committed to the specialty!

Hope this clears things up!

Hey everyone! I am a current M1 at OSU and I can try to answer any questions you guys have about interview day, the school, or just the application process in general. Congratulations to everyone who already has received an interview and to those of you still waiting, good luck!

Thank you for offering your help! Could you talk a little about what to expect about the interview day and what you love so much the school? Also, could you give me some insight into serving the underserved population in the city, I saw the school offers some clinics you can join but am wondering if there are other avenues as well. Thanks!

Thanks!

I found the interview day to be relaxed compared to other interviews that I attended. The morning is filled with various presentations about the school, and is followed by lunch with current students (which is great because they will answer any questions you have and you can witness how happy the students are here). The interview takes place after lunch, and is two separate one-on-one interviews - one with a resident or fellow and one with a faculty member. The interviews are open file but they are blinded to stats, so it really gives them a chance to get to know you. It's very conversational, which I found made it much less stressful than other interviews.

I have only been here a month, but the things I love most about the school are the truly cooperative environment, the structure of the curriculum (clinical exposure in month 2!) and the fact that the faculty truly seem to care about the success and well being of the students. They try extremely hard to keep stress levels low and morale high, and I feel that it is easier to do well in that sort of environment.

As far as serving the underserved, you are right in that the free clinics are the main way of doing so. There is a different free clinic each night of the week, so it is fairly easy to get involved in those. Outside of that, there are also some student-run interest groups with a focus on serving the underserved both locally and globally that are available for first year students to join. Also, there is an opportunity to complete a sixteen week advanced competency in serving the underserved during M4 year, so you should have no trouble getting involved with that if that's what you want to do!

Let me know if I can answer anything else for you!

Congrats!! When were you complete, if you don’t mind me asking?

I was complete July 22nd! Also if anyone was wondering, I admissions said Vitals was down for a day and that’s why statuses didn’t update on the portal.

MSTP II received earlier this morning!!

super excited for this, but why would they schedule their interviews for Tuesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon??? now I gotta take off three days of work...

I just got a MSTP II on Tuesday (super excited)!! But when I went into vitals there was no information other than the date. Is there supposed to be info about timing/lodging/etc and my vitals is glitchy?

@NatGeoLover did you receive an email or something in Vitals with more info? I just want to schedule flights before they get expensive... Thanks!

+1 MSTP (II: 9/24, Complete: 9/15)

I ended up just emailing to confirm the date since the links were missing. But, I havent received any additional information (e.g., schedule, times, general info, etc).

Does anyone have any insights into the MSTP interview days? hoping it wont be 3 days of intense grilling! lol

Just double checking: to those that have gotten interviews, did you ever get a confirmation email or did it just say 'your interview is confirmed' on vitals (I still have the button to confirm my interview available is why I ask -- want to make sure it went through properly)

I never got a confirmation email. The page didn’t even reload when I clicked confirm I was so confused and kept clicking it until I realized. Strange

Ah thank you that's exactly what I was doing too haha

I got a confirmation email about two weeks before! They asked me to respond to an email. Then they sent an additional email a week before with all of the pertinent information.

Thanks! I'll look out for it then. I hope your interview went well!

Does anyone know if they are receptive to ITAs?

Does anyone know if they are receptive to ITAs?
I sent one about a month and a half ago and still haven't heard back. Also, the date that I was going to be in the area has come and gone. Still no R, II, or anything else so Im not sure how receptive they are, especially if you are going to be in the area soon.

Same here, sent an ITA and haven't heard back with any news at all and I'm in town this weekend
I only sent one because they were on the list of receptive schools, so it's possible that they are receptive but just weren't sure enough about me to make a decision

I think they might just be really slow. I sent an update via email last year and it took two months before I got an email back saying they uploaded it to my file. Kind of surprising since they are such a great school!

II! LM mid-70s, OOS, completed in September.

Wasn’t going to post this but I checked the thread and saw others getting an email. I only saw the II earlier this week by checking Vitals, still no email. Hopefully this will help someone.
Congratulations!! where in vitals? Under current action section?

IS here still waiting (LM 76). Not sure how their process works exactly, but I've heard that interviews are generally pretty spread out throughout the cycle. Is that true?

Not only are the interviews spread out, in my class several strong in state candidates weren't invited to interview until the end of the cycle (February or March). I know this probably isn't exactly what you wanted to hear but I can tell you that you have no reason to worry yet!

For anyone wondering about confirmation emails I just received an additional email asking me to respond and confirm my attendance at the interview date they set. This is in addition to confirming on vitals.

II LETS GOOOOOO

Complete late July

Scheduled for November 4

I WAS NOT EMAILED I HAD TO CHECK THE PORTAL. Also, for those who received an invite, after I confirmed, I was not sent an email or anything. Did anyone receive an interview confirmation email?
What portal? Vitals? Ohio St is the most confusing school.

Yes Vitals. Honestly, they are the most confusing. Like after you hit “confirm interview,” that option doesn’t disappear so you are left thinking it possibly didn’t go through. Hopefully you’ll see what I’m talking about soon!

+1 II without an email. Checked vitals for no reason. Who knows how long that was sitting there

So when OSU changes admissions statuses in the portal tomorrow (October 15th), are we thinking it will happen at midnight? Or should I actually try to get some sleep tonight? Haha Also do we know if OSU makes actual phone calls to let people know they're accepted?

I’ve read on past forums that they will call at midnight! However, not every person accepted got a call. So I’d say 100% it will be known by 8am.

Woah I had no idea they would call was definitely planning on falling asleep early haha. To think 24 hours from now...lord it's too much :nailbiting:

Where on vitals will the notification be for an interview invite?

The message on the left side will be replaced with the same congratulations text from the II email and the current action box will change to confirm/decline/reschedule
