Dang - all those people saying they have been finding on VITALS without an email and you were not even curious? People get so obsessed spending all their time writing Odes to Michigan..

Has anyone accepted received the acceptance letter through email yet?

For those who have interviewed, I’m having trouble interpreting how the LSI research advanced competency fits in. Is it a requirement of all students? Or are there limited spots for each class?

The advanced competency is something that you choose your fourth year. There are something like 15 different options, with research being one of them. Others include Ultrasound, Global Health, Emergency Medicine and Disasters, and Humanism (to name a few). Being a first year, I am not sure if there are limited spots in each one or if there are unlimited spots. Doing an advanced competency is part of the curriculum during M4 year, but what you end up doing is up to you!

Why is accessing the portal on OSU such a nightmare.

I cant even find or access my application... Could it have been deleted in their system?
🙁

Are you checking your vitals account?

Does anyone know how common deferrals here are? I should be getting a decision from here soon and am pretty nervous about it.

You can try to extrapolate that from this...
92 accepted off waitlist
102 matriculated out of 243 interviewed IS
100 matriculated out of 432 interviewed OOS
So, probably pretty common to be deferred, but also pretty good waitlist movement for those deferred.

That's like... Half the class coming from the wait list. Pretty surprising to me

Thanks for the info! The only thing is the way they described deferral wasn’t explicitly like a waitlist. The school reviews apps every 2 weeks and makes decisions at that time. The way they described deferral at the interview was that it means that they’ll continue reviewing your app. It only turns into a waitlist at the end of April, so I was wondering how many deferrals turn into acceptances before it turns into a waitlist.

Yeah, they are essentially avoiding rolling admissions. They defer so they can keep seeing if later interviewees are better

Right. That’s how I understood them too. Seems like they essentially make it into a non-rolling admissions process by not giving definitive decisions :/

Hey guys, hope the application season is going well. I'm a bit more than half way through 3rd year so if you have any questions about our clinical rotations feel free to ask/PM/etc. There have been some changes to Part 1 of the LSI curriculum so I'm not the best to ask about that anymore, but happy to help out however I can. Go Bucks!

Did everyone with acceptances receive a late night phone call on the eve of your decision day ? ...Congrats btw
