2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all - did anyone hear back about in-state tuition application? I submitted mine via mail a month ago, but still haven't heard back yet. Would like to know how broke I'm going to be before accepting the loans.

I emailed my health forms over a week ago and they still don’t show up on the check list

The governor announced that medical schools will reopen!

For anyone who had to have physical transcripts mailed in - did Downstate receive them? I had just one transcript that had to be mailed (all others were electronically sent and retrieved by Downstate), and they still haven’t marked all my transcripts as received yet.
Same here, I sent an electronic copy and another via mail, but they have not marked it as complete. I'll probably email next week about it.

Has anyone else uploaded health forms but not have the boxes checked off? If it was updated how long did it take, just curious because I emailed it about 1 week ago and they confirmed receiving but nothing has been updated on my list. Thanks

I emailed mine a week ago too. I called the office and he said that he is going to get through them today or Monday. He received over 100 last week, so he is swamped.

Does anyone know where/how we're supposed to be submit proof of US citizenship for the checklist?

If you are MD/MPH, I would suggest putting it on the doc upload on the portal. They put holds on my accounts because the med admissions did not communicate it with them 🙁

My questions is an extension of the above 😛. For those who submitted their health forms how did you do it? You sent all of the health clearance related forms (history, physical, immunization records, PPD, lab work, titers, etc.) in one pdf or separately to student health services?

Sorry if this was asked already! Haven't been keeping up with the thread lately due to work :bigtears:

They ask for it all to be in one PDF and i asked previously about the time and another individual on the thread said they are back logged currently so it’s take a little longer than normal

I am also MD/MPH. Did you enroll in classes? I still have holds on my account and I'm nervous if classes will fill up. Also, have you heard anything from advising? I'm not sure which classes I should take and when.

I've heard nothing from MD/MPH. Where do you see holds or where can I see where I can enroll in classes?

this may have been addressed already, but which email address did you send your non-health forms to? e.g., official transcript, proof of US citizenship

I sent the proof of citizenship to [email protected]. The transcripts I sent to the address for Downstate on the Credential Solutions service that I ordered my electronic transcripts.

There was a two day orientation starting June 3rd which had intros from faculty/dean of the SPH, fin aid, bursar, etc. Its like short 5-10 minute videos giving us an overview of Downstate and the SPH. We had to submit a photo, take the OSHA training test (blood-borne pathogens), and submit an online agreement. They didn't discuss class registration or what our schedules would look like. I got an email from registrar that it is time to register for classes in Banner Self-service. When I log-in, it says that I can't because I have two holds on my account.

WTF I never received any notice of this!
I thought orientation was Jun 10th based on academic calendar

It is the same log-in info as Banner-Self Service

I do not and I just realized my financial aid doesnt include my MPH charges
this is weird because the last email I received from MPH was on May 6th saying "WELCOME TO THE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH"
I sent an email though and hopefully this will be solved quickly 🙁

Contact [email protected]. This seems to be an issue with literally every MD/MPH student lol. Med admissions is not communicating with them if we send info via e-mail. So we all have holds and cannot register for classes. My financial aid and bill also is not posted. It is a mess lol

Similar issues. I feel like there are so many md/mph students going in this year ... is this typical? I am starting to debate what the mph will help me attain and not sure where to look

Me too. I think its because you could get the MD/MPH in 4 years instead of 5 years.

Thanks for the info. Also, do you have an idea of how many MD/MPH's there are? Is there a fb group that we could all connect on now that the semester is starting soon?

No clue. Haven't found any page either.

Apparently a bunch of schools are coming out and saying they had way more waitlist activity this year as a result of the corona. So is it possible that this slowing down of decisions means that downstate is approaching the end of their acceptances?

I've heard some schools say that. But I really don't know how COVID has affected the waitlist activity. I'm on 3 WL and one school only had 3 spots open up, which was very weird and unlike any other years. The other school had some movements but not as much as it did in the past.

So I think everything is very school dependent. The more and more I hear about delays in AAMC for AMCAS application, the more I want to hold my hopes up for these schools that have waitlisted me..

Not to be a downer, but i think it is clear Downstate is approaching the end of filling its classes. We went from 2-3 small A waves a week, to one person posting about being accepted in 10 days. 5\11 AL still holding out hope but I have sort of resigned myself. Waitlist movement typically slows down mid June and despite COVID we seem to be generally on schedule. I think downstate had more activity than last year but in the same time frame.

Yea that’s what I’ve been thinking as well. Thankfully, I have another A but I wish downstate would just let me know the final decision already even if it’s a rejection. I want to be done with this process.

I think you’re right. I also have another acceptance, but I would rather go to Downstate since I lived in NYC my entire life. The thing is the CTE deadline for the other school is very soon, so I’ma wait it out hoping for a miracle at this point.

Is the 7/1/2020 deadline for when everything needs to be submitted? or for when everything needs to be checked off? I am having a hard time getting an appointment for a physical due to COVID. I was able to get one for this weekend but I am worried that doesnt leave me with enough time to have everything processed

They didn't clarify it, I would recommend emailing them about it. I feel like they should be flexible due to Covid

Does anybody who has sent in their residency application know if they allow for sending in electronic copies? I know the form says it needs to be mailed in but I just want to make sure that form is up to date. I'm on the other side of the country right now so I'm worried sending by mail is going to be really slow.

All in single PDF

Does anyone know if the criminal background check will automatically be checked off once the school receives our report? Or do we have to submit the report ourselves?

Wasn't sure about this either. I submitted it through Application Station manually and sent them a pin to access CBC from the generated email to Medamissions. I received an email saying it will be checked off when they run an internal report to see who has completed CBC. Might not have been necessary, but it didn't hurt I guess.
