2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interview invite this morning! OOS with ties to NYC (work, school, currently live here). Thought I was done for this cycle so I’m beyond pleasantly surprised!!

Congrats!!! Seems like II are trickling out here and there...they must have made some decisions post-II...the uncertainty on when we'll hear back is so draining 🙁

Thank you!! My application was complete 8/27 and they only had Tues/Thurs dates available to choose from through the last week in February.

Did you submit any sort of updates? Also, Congrats 🙂

Interesting. When I got the II in early Jan only open dates were mid-March. I assume some people rescinded their interviews. The paranoid part of my brain wants to say "oh no AnonymousDoctorGuyPerson, you were only given a later date on purpose" but I'm gonna not try and focus on those thoughts lmao.

No, I decided not to since they specifically say not to unless asked... Seems to have worked out just fine!

That makes sense, I thought it was bizarre that they had such a short turn around this late. Hey, at the end of the day, an interview's an interview, paranoia be damned! Congrats and best of luck to you in March!!

Im in the same boat. ii in December only opened for march and April. I wonder what that is about

I'm quite sure it had to do with availability. A lot of schools gave out acceptances in January, and so a lot of people probably withdrew invites they had in February. Certainly nothing to be worried about haha. No use for us worrying otherwise 😛

Did the Dean come out and talk to you guys? Who gave the presentation/s?

The dean gave an informal presentation/talk around noon. My group had two second year med students give the tour and eat lunch with us. I didn’t attend the financial aid or residence hall presentations, so I’m not sure who gives those presentations if you’re interested in either of those.

Dr. Joseph right?

Everything about Downstate feels informal and gritty, which I appreciate lol.

Thanks

WHEN ARE THEY GONNA RELEASE DECISIONS????? February 14th, I'm assuming? can't wait for the Valentine's Day heartbreak <3
Recently interviewed here.. Was told decisions were "just about to come out".
Also for stats not listed on USNWR and MSAR: Downstate accepts ~40-50% post II!
How delightfully vague...

Do most people do their peer to peer conversation via phone call or video chat?

I have an interview coming up at the end of this month. Can anyone offer opinions on where to stay? I’ll be here for a few days

II late last night! Dates were last week of Feb into March but they were filling up pretty fast

what is the interview like?
traditional?

Anyone else have a really long and somewhat aggressive interview? Mine was about 1.5hrs with a psychologist and they dissected every grade I didn't do well on and psychoanalyzed my entire life story. Not feeling too good about it!
Does his name start with a S, cos I think I had the same Interview and for that length too

Traditional. Roughly 1 hour long. Interviewers ask a standard set of questions, then they ask a set of questions that the admissions committee came up with about your application, then it's just conversational after that.

So I get that some non-rolling schools release their decisions on a specified date in march..
I was told when I interviewed in late Nov. that we should hear back sometime late Jan., but seems like this is dragging on and on.. 🙁

I think around park slope, prospect lefferts gardens, or flatbush would be your best bet as long as you’re close to the 2/5 trains.

Do we get an email or phone call for decisions? Also does everyone hear back or is it just people that get accepted? Do we hear if we got rejected or waitlisted as well?

Can we all agree that early February is over? Lol anyone brave enough to call and see what they think they’re doing?
