2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

I was officially accepted to the MPH program today (although i didnt apply!) still on the alternate for the MD program (alt list 05/06). They are asking me to send my official transcripts... does anybody know how to do that? Do i send them by mail or email, what’s the email address? Do i upload them in the portal?
 
ok can someone sum up wtf is happening?? lol

-if you were placed on the alternate list on May 10th, then you are likely to be accepted?
-if you got the mistake email last night, that means you're on the alternate list and you haven't been accepted anywhere (hence no access to CYMS tool)?

edit: this school is such a mess...like me... I almost love it

To point 1 - there is I suppose no confirmation of that, but yeah at this point the only people pulled off the AL have been from the May 10th wave

To point 2 - that seems to be the case, I see no evidence to the contrary

And yeah this chaotic energy vibes with me

Long-time lurker, first-time commenter. I wanted to post this earlier but SDN wouldn't verify my account until now, haha.

  • Received the reminder email to PTE or CTE, but CYMS tool not available as I currently have no A's LOL

Thanks for chiming in! Suppose I can contribute as well if anyone ever looks back at this thread in the future or wants to reference it as this cycle continues, I know looking back at the 2018-2019 Downstate thread has been helpful to me
  • Interviewed mid-March
  • Placed on waitlist 5/10
  • Did NOT receive an reminder email to PTE or CTE, but I do have access to the CYMS tool and a current PTE'd school
Stats
  • NYC, ORM, Disadvantaged Status
  • 522 MCAT, ~2.8 uGPA, ~3.9 graduate (post-bacc + SMP) GPA
  • 1 A and 1 WL will update at the end of cycle

Obviously emailed them telling them I’m interested but can’t access CYMS tool. Their response:

Guess they’re not gonna acknowledge that email was WRONG?? Like alternates can’t PTE even if they have the CYMS tool lmao

I’m wondering now if only some of the AL people got the email yesterday and I’m assuming only some responded to it, maybe that’s going to be the pool of people for the next acceptances? Or maybe it’s just wishful hoping lol

How's everyone doing? I've gone through last year's thread and it seems like people did get an email like the ones from last night, but mostly for people who did actually PTE/CTE at some other school. So I am not sure what it means but just throwing out there because I've got nothing to do this weekend other than holding my breathe until 1AM..

I PTE’d at another school but am still gunning for downstate (waitlisted 5/6)... based on this email, do we think I should be emailing them to tell them I’m still interested in staying on the waitlist? Or should my response to the Alt tab on the portal be enough?

Happy Monday everyone 🙂 wonder how many days I’ll make it through before being sent into a downstate-induced panic

Happy Monday! It can't hurt to email to notify them, so I would just let them know.
 
I emailed them on Friday in regards to a question on the portal not the mass email- do you think they might take some time responding likely to due to the influx they received over the wknd?

They usually respond pretty fast. Can’t speak for everyone but I know some of us who emailed them in response to the mass email over the weekend got an automated email back (or at least I assume it was automated since it said the same thing for each of us)
 
Update: Sent my transcript as PDF via my school. DS checkmarked it as received. So for those asking, yes DS accepts electronic transcripts
 
Soo since everyone who got accepted off the waitlist received the alternate email on sunday may 10th... does that mean that us folks who got put on the waitlist on may 6th are ranked lower? am I allowed to still have hope? I really really really don’t want to start rewriting an application

yeah why not?? and if you have a CTE deadline coming up for that school, you can also tell downstate! perhaps that will nudge them so they can make a decision. I'm assuming you didn't receive the weird "PTE/CTE" email for alternate students since you already PTE'd somewhere else, right?

yeah i didn’t get that email (likely since I was able to PTE for the other school), but I’m probably going to reach out today as a precaution. CTE for the other school is coming up next month so a decision from downstate soon would definitely be nice (regardless of whether it’s good or bad news at this point lol)

It’s also possible that people who were put on the AL on May 6 got an acceptance and just didn’t report it on SDN. Don’t lose hope yet!

I definitely understand the worry, but I'm sure all is good! It's most likely still part of some last review patch. Not sure why it has taken so long, but I really do hope you hear back this week.

Nobody knows that for sure. Please don't give up hope. You never know what's going to happen with Downstate. They might have befallen to the recency effect.

Edit: Have you cleared up the MPH situation with them? If I'm recalling this correctly, you got acceptance into MPH but you never applied to it. Maybe they meant to send you an MD acceptance instead.

I did clear up the situation. I’m still on the alternate list for the md program. I got accepted to the MPH and received an official letter despite not having applied. I accepted the offer and sent my official transcript/sent the deposit. I would do an MPH if i don’t get accepted to medical school. If i get into downstate med, i will do an md/mph, and if i get off other waitlists then i won’t do the mph.

Some schools also have an option to buy a digital copy for yourself like an official pdf version

Yeah you can order it via the third party, they would ask you to input the recipient's email address at the end and just put the admission office's email address.
