2019-2020 TCU & UNTHSC

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also do you guys know if they actually do updates every 2 weeks? It sounded more like you'll be reviewed every 2 weeks and they'll only send something if its an A or R. I don't think they'll remind you every 2 weeks "hey you are still on hold".
I mean maybe I counted wrong, but based on SDN and the people I know who also know people, I definitely got more than 8! Who knows for sure though. The secret way of adcoms is.... Secret haha. They will update you every time you are put on hold, as you were reviewed and assigned that status again. (At least this is how I interpreted it)

They do, I lived it last year lol! Interviewed/hold/eventually rejected. But the communication is refreshing in this ambiguous process

Thanks both you and @ayjaystudent , I wasn't sure what they do if you don't answer a call so that was my main worry! Hoping for the A, but I would imagine they are definitely going to be conservative about options. Though I really thought they would be doing an 8/8/8 split for decisions, so I'm surprised by how many holds there were in that first group. I wouldn't feel too down about a hold given that, I just hope not an R!

Earlier in the thread an admissions dean posted they had "Just under 1400 applications; 250 interviews and around 70 offers" last year. They plan to hold 12 interview dates and 24 students in each group this year, so that means there will be 288 interviewees. If they accepted 1/3 of their interviewees that would have to be around 96 offers. Based on just what we know from last year's cycle, I would guess the post acceptance rate is gonna be less than your estimate of 33%.

That “eventually rejected” made my stomach drop lol. How long did they hold you for?

Omg sorry, didn’t mean to stress you out!! I think I was held for 3 weeks. But don’t get me wrong, plenty of ppl were accepted after being on hold. Last year I believe they said they interviewed too many out of an over abundance of caution, so hopefully they’ll be more selective this year. Everyone is so nice and from what I remember, they really care about fitting the mission. All you can do is be yourself and hope for the best, I know the waiting is the hardest, I’m right there with you!

Based on last years, they let u know your status after every meeting. Reassuring to know youre actually being re-considered each time

And equally terrifying at the potential R coming your way every Friday.
Would you rather send your updates and get R'd earlier on...or be put on WL and ghosted til July 31st the day before that schools white coat ceremony. Id choose the former.

Is there a way to re-review the audio essays you already submitted?

Sorry for the delay in our responses. All those who have interviewed will receive an update every time our Admissions Committee meets to make decisions on applications. Receiving a hold email from our office means that you are still under consideration for the entering class of 2020. All our decisions are made on a rolling admissions basis, meaning we make offers of admission all the way through the end of the season.

Any interview tips or reviews about the interview day?

Any interview tips or reviews about the interview day?
It was a really fun day for me! Don't worry too much because everyone is super nice and welcoming. I was far more nervous for the MMI portion than I needed to be! Be confident and have fun! They saw something they liked about you, otherwise they wouldn't have invited you. Go in and rock it! Good luck!!!

How many interview days have the school had? I read there's supposed to be 12 total?

I believe there have been three and decisions have been released for the first two. I don’t know the exact total number off the top of my head. It’s on the sheet they give you when you interview, but I don’t have it with me.

So, out of the 3 interview days, none has been accepted yet?

I know of 1 confirmed acceptance of a TCU student and Spybil said on here that their friend got accepted. Don’t know if it’s the same person because I do not know either applicant. I just happen to know a lot of people at different schools. I know of a few rejections and a whole lot of holds. What you see here on the last few pages is all I know. I am surprised that no one has reported their own acceptance on SDN and that not many rejections have been reported either, but there is not a lot of SDN activity for this school. I do not know how many people they have accepted and rejected. I wish I did... I’d be a lot less stressed lol it’s impossible to know their process or keep up with what’s going on. If you’re waiting for an interview or waiting for an admission decision, just try and sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster of a ride. There’s no point in speculating at this point, despite how tempting it is.

@SOM Admissions What does the class schedule look like for your students? Are they in class M-F 8-4, or is there another arrangement?
Hello rxstudent860, our student's are in class at various times during the day and week. Due to the nature of our innovative curriculum, we no longer have lecture style class time. This means that rather than have students' sit in a class for 8 hours a day and talk at them, we hold class for them to come and apply the content they are learning for any given week. There is still required class activity time. Our schedule also gives our students' the flexible space/time to take care of personal matters that may come up in their lives.

@SOM Admissions
How do those who interviewed last cycle get treated in your evaluation this cycle? If interviewed, waitlisted, and ultimately rejected, is it possible to get another shot? (Assuming improved MCAT, gpa, extracurriculars, etc.)
