Adding on to this, does the physiology requirement have to be met by a dedicated physiology course? I have a few biology courses whose content focused mainly on physiology, but their titles do not include "Physiology." @SOM Admissions

Im hoping I get somewhat of a swift response positively or negatively. Been out of school for a year, but very down to take these classes if I have to next semester/summer session 1

@SOM Admissions The questions are easy and fun. Although I felt like I was talking too fast and ended recording way before the full 3 minutes. That's not a problem, right? I felt like I ended recording, then remembered more things I could've added to the recording 🙁. I felt like it was incomplete even though I said what I could think of, but unfortunately got more ideas after stopping . It is easier to talk to real people because you can read their facial expressions and body language and they contribute to the conversation as well instead of just talking at them, which helps you bring up more ideas and remember them. Anyone else have that feeling? Hopefully admissions is understanding and can comprehend the ideas we were trying to deliver in the recordings....after all. this school is all about empathy and walking in other people's shoes 😉.

Hey y'all I've seen several questions on pre-reqs and was just gonna let everyone know that if they are currently enrolled or have graduated from the UNTHSC SMP the Cell Bio course was accepted for the genetics requirement last year and I imagine it would be sufficient for this cycle as well. I do not. Several students I graduated with from the SMP are now attending the TCU-UNTHSC SOM and stated they sent the class syllabus to the admissions office for review before being told it would indeed meet the requirement. I imagine the only way to know for sure would be to take a similar course of action. Good luck!!

I am thinking of doing my supplemental this weekend, I am confused how much we are supposed to research or if we are expected to just answer from our own perspective. The dean said we would have plenty of practice prior to the responses, but I do not understand how that is supposed to happen. Any clarity from anyone if I can just click start and be succesful by providing thoughtful responses. Thanks.

You’ll have time to practice the “technology.” There is no reason to prep for responses - you know yourself!

If anyone wants to know what an MMI is like, just do a secondary here. I really appreciated not having to write an essay, but I felt like I was on a game show with a trap door under my feet. I definitely put it off for like a week and a half for good reason. *sigh*

Hi guys. I just received the secondary and need some advice. I just had major double jaw surgery and my speech is significantly limited for the next month. However, I don’t want to delay my application this long. This is really embarrassing to admit, but I cannot speak clearly for 5 minutes straight. It overworks the healing jaw muscles so it causes pain and I also have a significant speech impediment that I do not normally have. I don’t want to be a hassle to the admissions office so I want to think I can just give it my best and let them know about my limitations, but I’m really doubting if I can even do that. I don’t want to embarrass myself or be a hassle to anyone. What do you guys recommend?

Just notify AdCom. I'm sure they'll work with you. I did all my questions at once, but I'm wondering if you can take a break in between. Anyone?

Yeah but honestly that type of surgery is serious. Even if they ‘could’ talk for just 3 minutes at a time and take breaks between each prompt it could delay their recovery or be painful for them/affect their response.

Definitely talk to @SOM Admissions
They’re super helpful and receptive and I’m sure you could figure something out. I would recommend emailing them so you don’t have to stress your jaw @springflower4567

I agree. Don't risk causing yourself permanent damage. You should not be embarrassed about this, jaw surgery sucks. My uncle had a major jaw procedure a few years back and I have seen the misery it causes firsthand. See if they'll allow you to respond via writing.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take... Worst case you get rejected and move on, but if you don't apply you'll never know. Also, make sure you have all the pre-reqs done. I was pumped for this school until I was told they were no longer accepting a pre-req from the SMP I attended even though it matches their description down to a t. Good luck!

I gave the office a call yesterday and they said my anatomy course would fulfill the requirement, you don't need a dedicated physiology course.

SOM Admissions How do you evaluate those applicants with a speech impediment? I am very excited for the opportunity, but having a time limit on the audio portion might have an effect on my responses.

Update: I finished the secondary, and I would have to say, they were interesting. However, I felt that I stuttered quite a lot, and afraid that could affect my chance. But well, I hope they still give me love because I really like the curriculum.

gotta remember, last year was their first year taking students and the application season was very shortened. You won't really be able to compare this year, except that the class size is the same at 60. Just keep in touch with your schools and good luck!
