I thought she was mostly saying this for those that got put on the "delayed decision." Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Based on my understanding, she said if you're in this boat an update from you just to ensure you're still interested is appreciated.
You're correct about the thank you letters. She said you can send those after your interview. They have the emails of the interviewers to make that possible.

Interesting. So if we got the "delayed decision" status, an update letter would help you think?

I got the impression she meant it more for people who’ve received a delayed decision response. Thank you’s are welcome anytime!

Anyone else getting the feeling that they are still sitting on a massive pile of interviews? Or is that just me being overly optimistic...

On our interview day, they said that there's a 15% increase in the total number of AMCAS applicants and a 41% increase in people applying to UIC so my guess is that they are still processing a lot of applications! Hang on tight and fingers crossed for you!

Interview is November 20th & I still haven’t come up with a reason for why UIC lol

Do you guys think sending a LOI here would help pre-II?
Others have said that its worth sending an update/intrest if you have already intereviewed and been placed on a "delayed decision" status. I have no clue if it would help pre-II, however. Maybe someone else can chime in.

For any current students, I was wondering if you know anything about the culture in regards to tattoos? I have a tattoo on my forearm that can be covered with long sleeves but am concerned if there would be any push back or limitations. The handbook I found didn't say anything about it. It's not offensive in any way but it's visible if I were to only wear short sleeve scrubs.
Yeah I have seven tattoos and many of my classmates have tattoos as well. As long as it’s not on your face/neck or anything incredibly offensive, you’re good.

From what I saw on interview day, they really like hearing about student interest. It seems to drive a lot of their decisions and will definitely not hurt you. They seem to enjoy updates and LOI, and I think reaching out wouldn't hurt. I think if you frame it in the manner of, "I haven't heard from you, but at the same time I'd still like to express interest since I love this school". I would just wait till maybe the end of Nov with sending that letter since its a bit early with how bogged down this current application cycle seems to be.

For those that interviewed last week, do you think our files will be considered during this week's committee meeting for decisions?

I interviewed last week and they told us we’d get a response either Thursday or Friday of this week!

Is there a particular day the school meets to decide who to interview? Or could you get notification to interview at any time?

My interview invite came on a Sunday at 9pm which was really unexpected. I’m not sure if there’s a particular day they decide but it seemed like the time you get an invite isn’t by a schedule.

Got an II today! I got it for the Rockford campus. Is anyone (current MS1s) knowledgeable about what this campus offers?
Congrats! They create the anatomy curriculum and have state of the art labs. Professors are super knowledgable and usually prepare students really well for exams (according to friends in Chicago)!

Thank you! Do your friends know if they offer the GMED (global health medical education) track?

Dr. Amiri told our group it would likely be by Friday morning, but to email her if we don't have a decision by the end of the day.
I feel like I forgot but did campus ranking happen already I really don't remember filling it out

Nope. She said ranking would become available in early December at the earliest. I thought she said we would receive the final campus decision in May, but that seems kinda late so maybe I misunderstood

You get to rank campuses after you are accepted. I don’t think anyone has been assigned a campus yet though. I was accepted on 10/16 and I’m still waiting for campus assignment. But according to the thread last year the first campus assignments came out early December.

You get to rank your preferences after you’re accepted. Dr. Amiri mentioned the first placements going out in December. I think the May part referred to people petitioning their placement. Those changes don’t get decided until much later.

Yes central time.

Btw I did get the email on Friday instead of Thursday. It was a very hard Thursday because it was 10/15 so it was the first day MD schools could send acceptances so a lot of us who interviewed early were very anxious.

I had a hard time sleeping that night and the next day I felt down trodden but I got the email around 5 pm on Friday so if you don’t hear today there is a good chance you will hear tomorrow! Keep your hopes up snuggle your pets and try to get a good nights sleep.
