I havent heard anything yet, but it's feeling like no news might be bad news? Probably will get an R soon 🙁

Hoping it's not this! Just wish schools were more transparent about our status.

Can you clarify your last point? Why would it be slim chances for admission if you don't receive the first II that they send out?

To clarify, I meant that if you get put on the hold list.

To my understanding, they don't do the practice of "saving" a certain percentage of their acceptance seats (e.g. 15% at some other schools) for people in subsequent interview invite waves since they don't do rolling admissions.

I’m pretty sure all IIs get ranked agaisnt one another in January. The time of the II doesn’t matter — take it easy.

Where do you all get this inside baseball info?

This could be, and would be very nice.

I just know that a lot of schools bring the interview results to the ADCOM and decide on the applicant within a couple days/weeks of their interview, which was my assumption about Mayo as well.

Of course, it's Mayo, so they could do it all totally different. Who knows?

Lol this conversation will not arrive at a conclusion bc we’re clueless premeds. Let’s just wait and hope IIs come.

They actually rank the interviewees about a week after they interview. Then in January they compare one last time before sending A's.
Source: Interviewed and got a fake A last year.
Do you mean then that they make A/WL/R decisions after the interview instead of ranking everyone and deciding that list from thresholds after all interviews have been done?

I think it's just comparatively, and then once they've completed interviews they will decide which ones get A/WL/R.

Edit: Also, they don't send many R's after the initial wave of A's. They keep the majority WL until basically late June then reject them.

Did they send out emails for being placed on hold? I haven't heard anything and just wanna make sure that I am checking the correct locations

Sounds like some IIs and a good number of holds.

I think it's important to keep in mind that a big chunk of applicants hasn't even submitted their secondary yet... this is the FIRST wave of IIs and holds. "No news" is certainly not bad news at this point.

Is this...true? It's getting pretty far into the cycle to not have secondaries done isn't it? I somehow doubt that a "big chunk" of applicants haven't done them yet

In the secondary it asked us o discuss our interest in our top choice location. I gunned hard for MN 4 years, LOL, to the point that I don't think the AZ campus would even consider me. Anyone else feel the same?

Yeah I did this too. I think that's fine because like in my case I wouldn't want to go to the AZ campus anyway so if they don't consider me than oh well.

Haha I did the opposite, I think only the AZ campus would consider me but if that means I sacrifice my chances with the MN campus I'm ok with that!

Damn we’re there any holds wu NORMAL stats lol? Everyone seems to be legendary

I got put on hold with "normal" stats last year, so it's always possible.

From what I've heard, Mayo is known for having a rather bizarre, unpredictable taste in applicants, and sometimes takes applicants that don't have great stats but otherwise have a really compelling application, so stats aren't the end-all.

I applied to this school as a "Hail Mary" with lower stats but a (I think) strong story, so I guess I can test this theory . So far no hold, only silence.

When Mayo hits you with the expiring password email after an excruciating hold-wave

I can't even get a secondary from this place haha

It's possible there will be more holds initially this year since many students took the MCAT late due to COVID. So maybe admissions will offer more holds than usual as they wait for more complete applications. Just speculating, though!

On hold today. Complete 8/26. Lizzy M is 69 w/ lots of clinical experience and military.

Hold today. Complete 9/9. LM 75

I wish there were a way of knowing the number of holds sent out so far
it seems like they've sent out A BUNCH of holds... does anyone know how good of a chance you have to get pulled off a hold?

II today for the Minnesota campus!!! Really excited - this is one of my top choices! I was complete on 8/2.

EDIT: To add additional context, the only available interview dates were in later October for me. I'm not sure what this means but it could mean they only open up certain dates for each interviewee to balance the number of interviews throughout the cycle. But I'm not an adcom so I'm not 100% sure.

Also so I know before you would do a separate app for each campus. So rn are you basiclly just considered for your first choice or can you receive an Ii for more than one option?

I'm not sure anyone here can confirm what their exact process is, but they may just consider you for a general II and give it to you or not based on your campus preferences. This is my assumption since they've had us apply through one secondary instead of two this year.
