I know a lot of MD schools are really behind. I was talking with a friend on the admissions committee at the medical school I worked at recently and they were saying they are being really judicious with acceptances and for this cycle. They predicted massive WL movement. Just one conversation but interesting.Exercise, socialize, stay positive.........just kidding I stress every day, refreshing my email 1000x while praying for ANY attention from my state schools :')))
Noorda does in fact screen their secondaries so if you do get one it is not just for the fee, it is because they looked at your application and are interested in getting to know more about you as an applicant and continuing the process furtherFor sure, I also expect a lot of WL movement for a lot of schools. Still, I don't think this cycle is any easier or harder to get into regardless of how "unprecedented" it is. At the end of the day, it's still med school admissions and they don't have to do anything special to fill seats with excellent applicants. I'm just trying to keep my expectations in check lol.
Noorda's FAQ page says: "A competitive MCAT score is above 503 with individual section above 125."
Most schools don't screen secondaries (or have very low cutoffs for them) because they're willing to send them to students that wouldn't really be considered just to get that expensive secondary fee :/ I've seen people get IIs with high 490s but it's almost entirely unheard of with low 490s. I had a super low first MCAT score too so I know it's so demoralizing, but applying with <495 is not setting you up for success 🙁
has anyone here received a secondary from this school with a sub 495 MCAT score?
when did they add the MCAT score competitive 503 part? For sure, I also expect a lot of WL movement for a lot of schools. I hope for that to occur but there are almost 25% more applicants this year than before. The spike is likely due to ease of access to interviews etc... Mathematically speaking, more volume means more people and a bigger pool. Don't bank on the waitlist, just try to make positive moves to help your application is the best way to look at it imo.Absolutely. It’s a unique year but still competitive. I just think there will be more WL movement this year. WL movement fluctuates each year.
That’s atrocious. What an awful program.BCOM had a 100% placement rate. However, their inaugural class had a 82% completion rate. So of the students that made it to 4th year, they all matched.
Would interviews then mean more from a school? After all, it is the indicator that one survived the secondary process, even if the schools were generous in handing it out.I hear you, but what I'm saying is a lot of schools have screens that are much lower than their averages because it's no skin off their bones to collect your fee. Just getting a secondary truly does not mean they legitimately will consider you sadly. For example, most MD schools that screen have secondary cutoff screens at around 500, yet the MD accepted average is 513 and 99% of schools have 25th percentiles significantly above 500. I don't mean to be a debbie downer, I just researched/emailed A LOT about screens because like I mentioned, my first MCAT was <500 :/ Regardless, if you have $ it never hurts to shoot your shot!
Excuse me, unrelated, but what does "IA" mean at the bottom of everyone's signature - or whatever we call that? I'm still figuring out SDN lol...100% yes, interviews mean that there is without a doubt SOMETHING in your application that makes adcoms think you truly could be a good fit for their school. They won’t ever waste time and resources giving IIs to people who never had a shot at actually attending because interviews involve way more effort than just reading a secondary. However it’s important to keep SDN’s “staircase analogy” in mind, meaning applicants don’t enter interviews on the same level and are placed in different “tiers” depending on their stats/ECs.
If a school only does video secondaries then assume they carry the same weight as a regular secondary essay. I’m also low stats with high post-bacc/trend and above-avg ECs so I think you have a great chance!!! I have faith in you 🙂

Kinda standard for new schools. I think the new MD program I’m CA had similar issues. That’s atrocious. What an awful program.

For sure. At one point though you’re left to the randomness of the process.I hope for that to occur but there are almost 25% more applicants this year than before. I’m not a super great student...at least my past self...and I’m scared of that.100%. This is just my discussion from one Adcom.
It’s that increase in applicants that leads to more WL movement.
reality is great students get rejected everything year and this year will be no different.
Always tough. It works out for everyone eventually though. You got this. Just gotta adapt when necessaryI’m not a super great student...at least my past self...and I’m scared of that.

Nobody will let someone they aren't certain will succeed into med school.
I hope those interviews turn to As then.

I’m in the same boat. Don’t get yourself too down. Statistics apply to populations, not individuals. If you put in the work and gave it an honest go things will fall into place. If not now, sometime soon. I have faith in you friend! We’re all wandering this path together.I’m not a super great student...at least my past self...and I’m scared of that.
Well put. There is power in the subjective and power in the individual.I’m in the same boat. Don’t get yourself too down. Statistics apply to populations, not individuals. Heart dropped when I saw the email lol. Nice of them to add all of that great info tho.As much as I love the information about Provo, housing, and financial aid emails. It would be way better if I was accepted instead of on the WL haha!
Yup. First or second week of February.Should January interviewees expect to hear back the week of the 8th?
do you know if that's for accepted or matriculated students? Because many people can accept a seat and pay a deposit & then not matriculateJust saw the private FB group for class of 2025 is already at 21 members 🙁. I am middle tier waitlist and it isn't looking too good for me.
only 18 are students.Just saw the private FB group for class of 2025 is already at 21 members 🙁. I am middle tier waitlist and it isn't looking too good for me.
I think it is everyone who has payed the depositdo you know if that's for accepted or matriculated students? Because many people can accept a seat and pay a deposit & then not matriculate
this school isn't eligible for federal student loans (FAFSA) only private loans because they are a new school.Does anyone know about the FAFSA process? I interviewed and I am waiting for decision. Should I apply to FAFSA now because I hear a lot of times it is first come first serve?
Thank you so much for the info!this school isn't eligible for federal student loans (FAFSA) only private loans because they are a new school.
They still want you to fill FAFSA I think - they will use it to determine what financial need you have. But you don’t have to hurry to fill it.Thank you so much for the info!
I feel like waitlist movement won't happen until March at the earliest. It just makes sense that they would accept people outright first and see if they melt away or not.Are we thinking only Top 25 will see movement on February 8th or will we see some movement from Top 25 & Top Tier? I know nobody knows but just trying to gauge what everyone thinks!
I think she t25s will get As. They will probably compare the January interviews with the WL and then hand out enough As to "fill their class". Then after that the WL will just ebb and flow as it does every year. Are we thinking only Top 25 will see movement on February 8th or will we see some movement from Top 25 & Top Tier? I know nobody knows but just trying to gauge what everyone thinks!
So maybe they send decisions to Jan interviewees on 2/8 and then re evaluate WL by mid-feb?The waitlist will be re-evaluated no later than mid Feb. Not sure if that means pulling up from the top, I hope so.
All the best to you. My husband sometimes asks why I post on here and follow it. I think its great because it is a similar group working towards a common goal. I am so grateful to have this. As stressful as it is I love learning and hearing from you all.Hello all! I know this will sound cheesy but I guess I'm just in a cheesy mood. While I am not the most active poster, I have followed this thread and shared in many of the emotions you all have expressed. I personally found it comforting to know that I am not in this alone so thank you for that. I am going to take a break from sdn but just want to wish you all the best and I truly hope it works out for each and every one of you. While we may be competing for the same 90 spots, we're all in this together and I am so proud that we have all made it this far. This is certainly not an easy process and you all inspire me. Keep on, keepin' on!
Hey tennis2222, I just wanted to say I admire your openness. This is such a genuine post, and I feel this is something many of us can relate to including myself. I’ve taken numerous breaks from this forum and everything related to medical school admissions because it can get overwhelming sometimes. It’s an emotional rollercoaster.Hello all! I would wait if I were you. They are still working on getting agreements with servicers that have better reputations than sallie mae. Work on your credit score in the meantime (pay down any balances, etc). Can anyone comment on what lenders have good rates for loans and what they were able to secure?
