2020-2021 Rutgers (New Jersey)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know what’s happening with the applicants who interviewed Oct/Nov and haven’t heard back yet? I’m just a bit confused since waitlist notifications and acceptances both went out this past week. Not sure what to expect :/
Since he calls a lot of people personally and someone heard back yesterday, I suspect others will hear over the next few days. I can't imagine Dr. H makes dozens of phone calls in one day, so the feedback is probably spread out after one meeting.

Or maybe they don't review apps in order after the interview. :0

(Caveat--I have no idea what I'm talking about)

Would you mind sharing when you were complete?
I think I received the complete email on July 28th, but in reality, it may have been a bit later because I had a CASPer mix up so my results were delivered to them in August.

Also one more question!

For those that interviewed, did you also participate in a student interview? Would you recommend it?

I think it really depends on your situation/profile. I think the only way it can hurt you if you do do it is if you’re not great at interviewing, in which case, maybe don’t do it. lol but having another person to vouch for you is a plus IMO. But some people have gotten accepted after just the faculty interview (myself included) so again, it depends.

Any other accepted former GSBS students know if we have to send our transcripts from the grad school to the med school or do they have access already?

this was by far the best interview I had!! the interviewer was so nice/friendly and easy to talk to! we were able to joke and have a normal conversation but I was still able to talk about everything I wanted to.
try not to worry, this was a super low-stress interview and they really just want to get to know you better so be yourself (as much as you can via webcam lol)

were you informed of who the interviewer was before hand?

Do we think they’re giving out any more As or is it just waitlist spots at this point?
For my own sanity, I think that they have to still be giving out As. I interviewed in December and my interview day hasn't gotten decisions yet (I believe) and so I would be surprised if they filled the class prior to that. but who knows lol

Question for those who have interviewed already – is the 9:30am check in on interview day just a 5 minute ID check? Is there any presentation/introduction after, and do you have to wear formal clothes? My actual interviews are much later in the day.

Yes, it's just someone from the Admissions team checking your ID. If I remember correctly I don't think she even turned on her camera for us. You just get put into a waiting room, then they call you, you show ID and then you leave.

Hi, I have an interview on wednesday. I am a little confused about the setup. Is there one or two faculty interviews?

There’s one faculty interview and one optional student interview. Then there’s a required q&a session on another date with students and the dean.

Does anyone know if NJMS accepts updates? What’s the best way - is it through the portal? Also this would be pre-II. How long do they do interviews in the cycle?

Yup, they accept it through the portal! I submitted my pre-II update the other day

When they say they want “substantial” updates what do they mean? Because my research has progressed a lot since I put in my app but I don’t know if that’s enough to be an update... and I don’t wanna bother them but I want them to know im still alive 😂

I don't know for Rutgers specifically, but at another school I was given this definition of a significant update: new grades, new clinical/community experience (>3 months), accepted publication. That felt v strict to me -- and I'm the same as you re: research -- so I didn't send in an update. But I don't like sitting here silently either !!

Accepted on Sunday after a 2nd interview, I think they like to send out acceptances on Sunday evening
2nd interview? Does NJMS schedule another faculty interview after your first faculty interview, or by "2nd interview" are you referring to the required Dean Meeting?

Can someone shed some light as to how long/formal the 9:30am session is, and is that the only session in the interview day other than your actual 1-hour long faculty interview? Someone above mentioned it is just a quick ID check, but is that the only required session of the day other than the faculty interview?
