Does anybody know if, since they started IIs a month ish later this year theyre gonna end up sending fewer IIs than last year? Or do you think they might go later/ offer more frequently since virtual?

I fully realize that might not be something any of us would know, I'm just trying to assess if the post II acceptance rate would be different this year.

Your guess is as good or better than mine, but if I were to guess, schools may have to do more interviews this year to fill the same number of spots.

Question for anyone who's interviewed already or is a current student. Is the Diversity Connections optional session more geared towards URM/minority students, or is everyone welcome to join?

Everyone welcome!

Anyone else get weird vibes on interview day? ngl everyone came off as super corporate and awkward. Hoping it’s just an anomaly bc I really like Philly.

It’s interesting how different people perceive things! Maybe it’s because I came off the most stiff and offputting interview I’ve had (WashU) and maybe it’s because my faculty interviewer was super chill, but I thought everyone was really warm and genuinely excited about the school. A lot of it depends on the specific people you meet day of, I think.

Nope, as an overall interview day, had to be the most chill and informal and fun

Agreed. I don't know why but this was probably the first interview I've been to that affected my view of the school negatively. It just felt like no one really wanted to be there to deal with us and/or had a very preppy, Ivy attitude. Weird vibes in general, which is kinda sad because I also really like Philly and UPenn, but it's encouraging to hear other people say their experience was good.

exactly! thank you for saying it. i feel weirdly guilty not liking Penn lol even though they're the highest ranked school interviewing me

I had a fairly good interview day all in all, but sometimes it felt like some students/faculty were trying too hard to sell Penn as the "best medical school" in the nation. I already knew it's a great school and that vibe/wording felt off personally. I realize this is different than the corporate/awkward feeling you're describing but I wanted to share some of the weird vibes I felt.

We've all got our own vibes we're looking for and it's totally legit to not feel like you clicked somewhere! I feel bad for not liking WashU (strong ties to the area, family member who recently passed away went there) and the whole school specific thread is just people rhapsodizing over how awesome it is, and it just didn't work for me at all. It takes all kinds!
hahaha what a great word - rhapsodize. i just got the WashU II today so I'm starting to go through that thread too. but yeah I think you are absolutely right.

Congrats! It's a great school but not right at all for me, I think. I hope it's perfect for you!

You are definitely right. I also wonder if it was different because of Zoom. Like maybe if we were actually there and got to interact with students and faculty in-person it would be different. Here's to hoping for an in-person second look day....

By the way, what gave off the corporate vibe for you? I'm really curious about that aspect if you're comfortable sharing or PMing me.

Same, I'm interested. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised during my interview, but I want to get some other opinions if not everyone felt that way.

I expected some douchebaggery from a T5 school but honestly, I didn't get that. My student interviewer was incredibly nice and I thought the simulated patient thing was incredibly unique and "fun" compared to other schools. I also thought the 3 students during the Q&A were super honest and forthcoming compared to some other interviews; I felt like they were really being themselves rather than brand ambassadors for the school. My faculty interview was admittedly very awkward but that was really the only thing that turned me off.

Just to add another pro-Penn voice, I felt the same. I definitely didn't get the vibe others have been talking about. Loved my student interviewer, and my faculty interviewer was SUCH a cool person. I had the medical arts class rather than the simulated patient thing but I thought that was super fun and engaging.

So I think it really just depends on who we get paired with. I personally did get some strong T5 vibes from my student interviewer, and it was also very clear that my faculty interviewer was reading my application for the first time on the spot (no specific questions on my activities and I could literally see him scroll down and just ask random things here and there). It probably just all depends on the group and faculty we got assigned to that day, so I'm hoping a 2nd day look would offer another opportunity to get a different perspective!

Is this for sending interview invites or interview dates? Its website says UPenn finishes sending invites in January...

when i got my ii in november they were scheduling about a month out, so if i had to guess i would say they send invites out through january for dates through the end of february

I emailed them yesterday and this is what they said:

Thank you for reaching out. The committee is winding up their review of applications. Typically there are a handful of invites that will go out over the next week or two however invites tend to wind down at this point in our cycle.

Rip 🙁

In any case, thanks for asking and letting us know!

Ngl this is kind of strange. They started sending out IIs a month after last year. Why is the timeline the same as last year... is COVID just not a thing to adcoms anymore

I believe they may have just had more interview days throughout the timeframe to accommodate for the later start to sending II's. I do know they delayed sending out secondaries and started reviewing them a little later to account for COVID-19.

Seems like the last report interview date was mid December. Not sure if they’ve scheduled any interviews occurring this month yet

Hey 🙂 Does anyone know when Penn stops sending IIs? I think I saw that it stops in Jan but wanted to see what y’all think.

Anyone who is interviewing tomorrow. Have you received the info on the interview. They said 24-48 hours but I haven’t gotten anything yet.

I interviewed a few months back and didn't receive my email information until later afternoon of the day prior to interview day. If you don't get it soon, I recommend sending them an email.
