I feel like the 22nd or the 29th might be big days, but that's just wishful thinking and anxiety speaking lol
 
I have two questions for current students:

I see that STEP I is taken in spring of the second year, before clinical rotations. Is this different than most schools? I thought that most students in the US took the exam in the summer after M2. When do you study for STEP I at UVM?
Can anyone offer further insight from personal experience into characteristics of the Vermont vs Connecticut campus beyond what is offered on the website?
 
Has anybody else not received the further instructions email for the interview yet? My interview is on Wednesday and I figured I would get something yesterday but nothing yet
 
I’ve had a few DMs asking about the differences between campuses, so thought I’d post this response in case it provides any more insight for anyone still deciding-


All M1/M2s are on the Vermont campus during preclinical years.

From my tangential understanding, the differences really all just come down to location/lifestyle/learning preferences rather then there being a huge difference in terms of the kind of training you'll get. In VT, you'll work with VT population which tends to be a little less diverse than you would see in a metropolitan area like Danbury where the CT campus is. Location wise, you'll be in VT all 4 years so if you like the outdoorsy niches that Vermont offers, you get the full experience with that vs CT which is about an hour from NYC and a lot more urban in general. A much smaller set of students end up going to CT too (I think about 30 compared to 90 or so at VT) so you end up in a smaller student group which some might favor for the benefits that offers vs continuing to build on relationships you started preclinical with VT faculty/physicians and continuation of any research projects you might have started at VT too.

Those are some of the differences I can think of. Most people just go with their gut, what you think might be more important to you come 3rd year. I think it is a bit difficult to change campuses once you commit, so keep that in mind. I would advise you pick the option of "preference for X campus, but okay with going to either one" post-interview however, because if they like you, but don't have a spot for the campus you wanted they will just offer you a spot in the other campus vs waitlisting you if you strictly choose a single campus.

True P/F, no rankings preclinical years. You can score “with honors” or some equivalent during clerkship and will be eligible for honor society stuff based on your grading during last 2 years as well.
Everyone is super collaborative as preclinicals because of this and I’ve greatly enjoyed there being no pressure in this regard. >70 you’re in the clear.
 
Does anyone know if UVM waits until the end of the cycle to send out Rs? I scrolled back through a few pages of this thread and didn't notice anyone mentioning a rejection. I'm OOS but from New England. UVM is one of my top 5 choices. I submitted 8/11 but haven't heard a peep since.

Also a OOS New England and I think they wait to send Rs until after their last interview day. I'm not sure when that is, but I am hoping there is still some hope.

Be well prepared for an MMI styled interview, I used resources from BeMo, and the book Multiple Mini Interviews by Desai. I also did a ton of practice MMI responses. I thought the MMI at Vermont is standard (nothing unexpected if you went through your resources well), know the school's mission/focus well maybe tune your responses to cater to that, make sure you when responding about patient care your responses emphasize autonomy, benevolence, non-maleficence, and justice. You should be good to go!

We basically complete the Pre-Clinical Curriculum in 1.5 years so we have more time for Clinicals. February 1st-March 13th is Dedicated Step Time and 3/13 is the last day to take the exam (the exact date changes every year). This is different from most schools but a lot of schools are shifting towards this style, especially with Step 1 going P/F, it doesn't really matter as much.

For people who have interviewed, when did the university send you a link to join the Zoom? How close was it to your actual interview date.
