If we interviewed in September, and didn't get an answer on the last date (on 10/16), is it possible that we get an answer today (even if the chances are low)?
From what they told me during the interview, they accept the top 50 on their acceptance list each date... not getting an A on 10/16 means that you weren't in the top 50, but technically you did move up 50 spots that day. It just depends on the interviewers that got added to the "acceptance list" since that date and if 1-50 people moved ahead of you (depending on where you were at after you moved up 50). Someone please correct me if im wrong 🙂

anyone else's portal down? went to check for tabs and can't even login in. its prob nothing but still adding to my anxiety lol

That is somewhat more comforting to hear. For some reason, a few pages back, someone reported that an AdCom said the chances of getting any news after the first date was low. This might still be true, but at least this makes a bit more sense.

Sounds right, but additionally people withdraw so it could be more than just the 50 accepted that were taken off the list

So no "accepted" thing yet but i now have a new "File Status" section,,,

I have this too! Yayyyyy! I really really loved this school so I’m happy and grateful!

@Talldoctor96 we bumped heads a few days ago but happy to tell you that I didn’t lose my job after calling out for the 100th time and it thankfully ended with an acceptance. lol 🙂

What's all this talk of "tabs"? I'm supposed to hear back today too

I don't have an actual additional tab on the side but there is now an additional section right beneath the section with the "application status" blurb that says "File Status" and there are subsections for official transcripts, VCU ID info, and in-state tuition eligibility.

getting tabs seems so frustratingly elusive. this is my third time applying. each time, i went through waiting for the acceptance day giddy and excited, holding my breath watching the portal slowly load, seeing no tabs, pathetically refreshing until 6 pm, giving up, repeating the cycle on multiple acceptance days, gaining some hope once i was placed on the waitlist, then ultimately hearing nothing. this feels like some game that i'm destined to always lose.

I know its frustrating, but congratulation on your acceptance elsewhere. We are not defined by our application results. You will be an amazing doctor wherever you go.

for those who got tabs, did you get an email that your status is changed or did you just check the portal? Do they send out all A's at once or probably for a couple more hours?

If you haven’t gotten tabs you most likely aren’t going to they all come out at the same time. Nothing official will come until 6:05 pm eastern when the portal updates. Congrats everyone!

For all those who did not get tabs today there is still a very good chance you will get an A. This is all theoretical but if they were to complete 600 total interviews evenly from middle of August until middle of February that would mean there would be ~28% chance of acceptance 10/16, 15% 12/16. 12.5% 2/1, 11% 3/1. So although you did not get the tabs today you have pretty similar chances the next 2 release dates compared to getting passed up the first time and waiting today.

I ballparked the number of interviews they complete, I used 50 acceptances a release date offered (which might be too high), and I very highly doubt that the interviews are distributed evenly across the 7 months (which if they are not would further bring those last 3 acceptance percentages closer together) Lastly this isn't even bringing acceptances off the alternate list into account.

Long story short your chances of getting the holy tabs is a lot more consistent from 12/16 onward then you'd think

Based on October 16, don’t they input individually? Meaning tabs update for
people throughout the day?

So just to be clear, there's no more hope now for tabs? Is it not throughout the day?

Unfortunately this isn’t true. They are transparent enough to let you know your best chance is the first decision date. Historically only a handful of people in past years threads are accepted pre waitlist after being deferred. Does it happen? Yes! Are the chances the same? No.

I agree with that statement but your “best chance” is a way better one if it’s during the first group based on numbers right? Unless there is a bias in the voting process for those that have been interviewed after the most recent decisions date then everyone’s chance is the same each decision date regardless of whether they were passed over 2x already or have not been eligible yet. What I’m getting at is “best chance” will always be after your first eligible decision day but won’t significantly decrease after 12/16 unless there is that bias towards most recent interviews. @Talldoctor96 i shall await your verdict good sir

They didn't tell my interview day group that your best chance is the first decision date? You are actually the first and only person that I have heard that from. The interview day was very transparent about the decision process and they didn't mention anything about a higher chance of acceptance on the first day.

After I interviewed last week, I received a post-interview email with the Interview Day powerpoint. I noticed that the decision dates were all greyed out except for March 2nd. Is this an error on the slide, or does this mean I may only hear back on March 2nd?

can someone check their copy of the interview day powerpoint and see if it's the same for you?

yeah they didn't tell my group that either

Just to give a different perspective, most people do not get in on their first offer dates. For reference, lets look at in-state and that first wave of offers. I don't remember the exact numbers, but by the October date I think they've interviewed 100 in-state applicants, but they only extend offers to 25. That gives a 25% chance of getting in, but overall, they accept 40-50% of in state applicants who interview. I would imagine it is similar for out-of-state but I haven't looked at it. Now does understanding this help my anxiety after multiple unsuccessful applications and a previous interview/waitlist cycle with ultimate rejection, absolutely not and I wont pretend to tell you guys that it should help you.

Someone said it before but it makes sense that they just choose the top 50 or whatever at each date and then from the big pool at the end they make a big waitlist and take a decent % from that waitlist. Their post II % is pretty high ( 350/600?) because they are somewhat low yield, so one date with 50 people chosen isn’t the end all be all.

I think OOS is even higher % because more get off of waitlist! Maybe around 60%?
