I am on hold for a possible acceptance. Should I send an update/interest letter to increase my chance? What did people in the same situation do to turn their hold into an acceptance? Appreciate your advice!

So just to be clear. Now that you are on hold, you received a score of 1-5 from 30 committee members and it is averaged out. That gives you a final score. That score will never change. You will have that score until the day the waitlist ends. It is simply them going down a list from highest to lowest score. Thats how acceptances are determined, how the waitlist is determined etc. So you can send an update-- but its not going to change your score. Your fate is already determined based on your interview, file review and vote form the comitteee. If you send an update they may put it in the notes section next to your score, and you check a box that you're still interested. But thats not going to change your score, it may lead to the breaking of a tie. I hope that makes sense, but truly your fate is already determined by your score and nothing will change that at this point.

how about for those who JUST received 'your file is now complete!' hm????? what does that mean????

It means you have received the terminal stage of file review, you are now in the queue to receive an interview if you surpass the threshold. Again its all numbers based and ranked by your file score.

lmao now throwing away my sarcasm, how long does it take to update from complete stage to interview/rejection?

Hey I was wondering when they will be sending out rejections? Has anyone received a rejection email yet?

I'd imagine rejections will be coming out relatively shortly for those who have not yet received IIs. Definitely approaching the end of the interview cycle, but may have up to a month or so left, so keep up the hope but prepare for a R.

ive been bent over and prepared for the R a long time ago sometime last year. it's all good. Im ready.

Just got the "file review complete" status change! Completed 8/3 and I had already written this school off as not going to get an II because I was stuck on sub-committee for so long. Does anyone know if this status change is a good thing?

Hello I am a bit confuse, I just got an email saying that they have a spot for February 16th. Is that an II?

If it says interview invitation somewhere in the email then yes. When someone backs out of an interview spot they just email one date! That's what happened to me.

so i interviewed 1/12 and didnt hear back for the February decisions. is it a bad sign if my portal hasn't been put on hold either?

interviewed late October. I was passed on the Dec and Feb decisions. If I’m not accepted in the March 1 round of decisions, then I’ll be expect to either be waitlisted or rejected right?

I’m in the same boat. From what I understand, if we aren’t accepted in March then we will either be out on the waitlist or rejected. Waitlist is made in mid March!

Yes, basically after march 1 there is a pool of more people than will fit on waitlist, so there will be some rejections given.

What is the timeline for the VCU interview day? I have a morning interview next week and still haven't received more info

Hello guys any advice for the interview! I haven’t received any documentation yet!

Can you elaborate!
Sure, before you have received your “file review is complete” you’re essentially in limbo — your file has only been partially reviewed. II are given out based on your final file score. So if you’re in limbo you don’t have a score yet and you’re not in the queue with all the other applicants to get an interview. The queue is a bunch of people ranked by their file score and a certain score gets an interview. Like let’s say for basic number sake your file score is 11 and the threshold is 10, then you’re invited to interview. But when you’re on the subcommittee status you have no score yet and can’t get over the 10 threshold. Once you recieve that your file review is complete: you’ve reached the terminal stages of review and have a score. You are now added to the queue with that score. Does that make sense ? Obviously it’s not exactly how it works but you get the idea

Do you know if the queue is separated by in state and out of state?

Thank you makes perfect sense! Also are you a student there? Is it a good school?

I would imagine that plays a role but I’m not sure. This “queue” of course is a simplified explanation of what I’m sure is a more complicated process. This is just how it was explained to us on this thread by the Vcu admissions Dean on this thread a year or two ago.

I think updates do help! Especially if you are talking about a new experience or activity that you haven't discussed before. Last year, I was accepted off the waitlist soon after I sent an update in which I talked about a new initiative I was working on regarding COVID in hospitals.

Just to clarify: the waitlist is purely ranked by the score you get at the admissions committee meeting. Updates do not change that score.

Hey, do you work for the admissions committee at this school or even go there? How can you so confidently say this if you aren't actually part of the admissions? I don't think its in your place to be making these claims when you aren't actually an admissions team member or have some kind of concrete proof (word of mouth or a conversation doesn't count because admissions aren't always completely transparent with students).

Guys admissions made a post a few cycles aho on this forum, our friend is simply re-explainiing what was said. No need for the animosity.

Yes, he is correct on that. You get a score (I believe its 1-5, with 5 being the best). And that score does not change. However, here's how I think an update letter can help:
Lets say you got a 3 so you are on the waitlist with all the other 3s. Now if all the 4's have already been offered a spot and its time to start pulling names out of the 3s, then having that update letter might help you get chosen among the first few 3s. It won't move you up the list with 4s and 5s, but it give you a slight advantage among the 3s.

So I say writing an update letter will not hurt in any way. It might help, it might not. But there is no downside.

Agree 100 percent. It can definitely help, especially if you’re close with other peoples scores. Juet didn’t wanna give false hope that it’s going to change your chances a TON
