Thanks
for the reply...that makes the most sense.
I think in the instructions there was an example given. The example had 2 semesters equivalent of each discipline - 2 semesters of chem, bio, math, etc... I don't think they're expecting you to write out your entire transcript...

Well in the faq under the core competencies it said to please list every class you have taken in each category...so l took that literally...but l do rememder the page you mentioned discussing fulfillng prereqs.

l guess l was seeing the core competencies as more than prereqs. In the example they gave under the instruction link the had a summer research ec listed under the biology comptency and tutoring writing for two semesters under humanities, so it wasn't just classes.

Maybe l just ask for clarification from them.

I think you're right actually, looks like I made the mistake of considering it as more of prereqs! Hopefully, this won't screw me.

Anyway, I think you just try to list as many as possible within the character limit - it says it's more of a guideline for them to look at your transcript so I'm sure it won't make a big difference.

So, my primary just got verified the other day, and I am finishing up my secondary to BU, and I had a quick question about the core competency part. I am non-traditional applicant who was a humanities major, and I have lots of credits. If I just list my humanities courses, it is over the 600 charcters limit, even with judicious use of abbreviations and cutting a few out. Am I expected to be able to list all my courses? Or did people only put some of them? I was fine listing everything for the other sections, even in Biology, which I basically have done a second major in.

I also did a research paper on a humanities topic and I wasn't sure if I should cut even more courses out, in order to list it, since it isn't anywhere else in my application.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Edited for typos

Just in case someone comes looking for an answer to this next year. I emailed them, and they said: "You can submit a document in the application with the courses you couldn’t add." I am assuming this is in the document upload section.

I know it probably doesn't make a big difference, but because they asked for all the coures, I am going to upload the document. Maybe the person reading the secondary can't access my transcripts for some reason. But mainly I think the breadth of my coursework is one of my strengths and this gives me an opportunity to highlight that in a way my transcripts don't. I was excited about that. That is why I asked them about the character limit instead of just fitting what I could. But, if they hadn't gotten back to be so quickly, I would have just fit what I could and moved on. Wasn't worth delaying my application for days.

II just now! Does anyone else see the dates and times for the BUSM Information Sessions and Student Panels? (JK I found it)
saying this for other ppl bc I was so confused- you have to actually schedule your interview before you see the dates for the info sesh

II on tueday. Are there any students lurking who can give tips for the interview?

I submitted my secondary on 8/9 (took casper on 6/17) and just saw that BUSM has not received my casper score. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is from the admissions website: "BUSM prefers to receive three (3) individual letters, but will accept a maximum of five (5) in cases where an applicant feels that additional letters are necessary (for example, applicants who have been working for several years, who have completed a graduate program, etc.)." Does this mean BU wants us to avoid submitting more than 3 letters? I could certainly submit only 3, but I imagine having an extra letter (that's strong, of course) would only help...

I am a BU graduate student and I personally submitted a committee letter with 5 LORs in it and 1 additional individual LOR. We were told to submit 5-6 letters max in our committee letter and I interpreted that as submit 5-6. I just received an II from BUSM today so I don't think they are going to reject you because you sent the max amount of letters (as long as the letters are strong).

Congrats on the II!!! If you don’t mind, could you share more about your stats/complete date? The II tracker has very little recorded on BUSM so far, so I’m quite curious.

Thank you! Because I am a MAMS student, my stats might not be as useful to you unless you are a non-traditional applicant. Though I can say that I really appreciate BU's emphasis on mission fit instead of on stats because my stats are not as impressive as a lot of the applicants on this website. LM score of 67.60 without taking into account my grad GPA of 3.7x, complete on 7/21. I'm a reapplicant and this is my first ever II. If you want to know specifics, you can message me 🙂

I’m wondering when they will start sending II’s/R’s to non-MAMS applicants. Congratulations to everyone with a II!
Have all the R's and II's been for MAMS applicants? For some reason, I was under the impression that this was not the case.

From what I've seen on this thread, non-MAMS applicants have already started getting rejected. They are probably reviewing both the normal applicant pool and the MAMS pool simultaneously. The II's that were reported on the tracker could be mainly from MAMS students but there's no way to know that for sure.

Any new rejections? I'm trying to discern if Boston University sends our rejections and II's gradually on a continuous basis, or if they send our results in large batches.

I know many MAMS students and you are correct this is not the case. In fact, most MAMS students have heard nothing so far...

As a BU alumni with many friends who have applied here past years, I can attest that unfortunately BU gives little to no preference to its alumni/grad students. Actually had a buddy 525 MCAT 3.93 cGPA accepted on a full-ride to Mayo and BU didnt even interview him (he was a double BU alumni, BS and MPH).
Whatever else is going on at BU with respect to favoring the home team, that's called resource protection. Would your buddy have given up his Mayo opportunity to be full pay at BU?

If not, BU did the right thing by sizing up your buddy, realizing he was highly likely to have far more attractive opportunities than they are able to offer, and saving the limited II slot for someone they thought they'd have a realistic opportunity to actually land. ALL schools, other than those in the Mayo tier, do this to one degree or another.

Hey y'all!! Have you figured out where to register for the information sessions? I don't see them on the portal?

After you select an interview date, refresh your portal a couple times and a new tab will pop out right under Interview Scheduling. It'll be called Interview Details and Events. If refreshing doesn't work, try logging out of the portal and logging back in!

That worked, thank you so much!!

Thanks for sharing this insight about the BU process. Could you elaborate more on what it entails to be mission fit at BU and what are the things they are looking for when evaluating this aspect. Thanks for your help!
