2021-2022 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received an email a few days ago indicating I have to accept my financial 'aid' award (just unsubsidized federal loans) + get consultation within 2 weeks of receiving the message. Is accepting binding in any way I should be concerned about? I have yet to make my final decision on the school and don't want to accidentally commit to Drexel before I'm ready or have it mess up my financial aid status at other schools.
I got financial aid from Drexel and they sent me the log in information to their site to view my financial information. However, I didn't see any two week deadline attached to any of that nor was there a button on their portal indicating that we had to accept it.

same, I never got an email about a deadline?

Does anyone know how late Drexel has historically interviewed until?
They interview until end of April. Everyone who interviews has a fair chance at getting a seat (you are not interviewing for the waitlist). Historically there has been a lot of waitlist movement however, because they have been able to interview more people with the online interview format, there will be a smaller waitlist movement

How have y’all been sending thank you letters to interviewers? Through the main admissions email?

They are already months behind. I hope they do meet this week and get those out.
And practically speaking, I’m not sure how easy it is to recall all the impressions made on you from an interview that happened 9+ weeks ago, even with some notes you jotted down in the moment. A lot of other schools can get back to you within 2-4 weeks post-interview, which is much easier to recall someone in that timeframe amongst a sea of applications. Not sure what’s so flawed about how Drexel goes about their review process that has them so perpetually backlogged.

I interviewed 2/8 and today I sent an update letter to them via email. They responded with saying the updated was added to my file and that I should expect a decision in the next week or so. Assuming that is accurate, early February decisions should be coming next week for some and the following week for others.

Interviewed 1/26, recieved a WL today. Anyone from 1/26 recieve any As?

I had sent an email about a week ago expressing interest and asking if there were any updates on when I could expect a response, they responded pretty promptly that decisions would be made in a week or two and they were.

They receive a huge number of applications and interview a lot more people than many other schools, so I guess it makes sense. Though they shouldn't be this behind

+1. Interviewed that same week in February and Brian responded to an email today and basically said the same thing – it’ll be right about 8 weeks out post interview, so hopefully that is accurate. Though he did specifically say in the email “Is there an absolute day that you’d need to know by?” in reference to remarks made in the email about other DO school deposits being due mid April. So it kinda sounds like if they really wanted to, they could get your app before committee sooner than what we’re told… cue the “11 weird tricks that gets premeds automatic acceptances”, “What admissions committees DON’T want you to know…” ads

“Yes Brian, I absolutely need to know by *checks date* uh…March 30th please.” 😇

This is great if you are a highly desirable candidate that they don't want to lose. The risk, however, is that if you are a marginal candiate who insists he NEEDs an answer by X date (because, for example, you imply, or actually say, that you are unwilling to lose a DO deposit once paid), you might end up buying yourself a ticket to the reject pile rather than the WL, so I'd carefully weigh the risk/reward of satisfying your desire for instant gratification before playing this card.

Just wondering when I should expect to receive the financial aid package if I filed the FAFSA ~ 1 week ago?

Lol you clearly thought about that much harder than I did. I was only kidding, I obviously didn't reply and tell him I NEED to know by tomorrow 😂

Edit: And who says that the only two options are WL or R? Maybe I am a highly desirable candidate... 🤔

Absolutely!!!

My comment wasn't really directed at you, since you already had the back and forth with Brian. It was directed at anyone getting any ideas from your post, and it was just meant to be a heads-up to be careful because people might get more than they bargained for.

In general, I only give people ultimatums when I mean them, and that's really what telling someone they need to accelerate their time line for you is. Personally, I would only do it when I was facing a CTE deadline, because then it really would be for real. I wouldn't imply that I needed to know now because I couldn't lose a deposit when, in fact, I'd be happy to have the opportunity to lose a deposit if the alternative was going to the DO school.

As I said, it's a risk. If they really want you, they'll let you know. If not, they'll also let you know. If it was me, I'd pay the deposit and let nature take its course. I was just laying out the possibilities for someone who might read your post and literally think it's a neat, no risk, insider trick to getting a accelerated decision.

so it's taking 8 weeks to hear back? As a mid-March interviewee, does that mean I'll hear in mid May? Isn't that super late 🙁

Yup. Hopefully, they will pick up the pace, but it's not crazy because that's right around the time a lot of people will be getting calls off WLs all over the place.

Unless you are holding an acceptance at one of the very few schools that has a 4/30 CTE date, hearing in mid-May will not prevent you from attending if that's what you want to do. And, as noted above, if that is, in fact, your situation, you can give them a heads-up and see if they would be willing to get you a decision before 4/30.

for those who went on the campus visit - did they send out an email with more information before the visit date? was there a formal tour or do we just walk around?

This thought crossed my mind too, but I feel like there are many more steps required before I'm bound to Drexel *ahem CTE*. From the email I got , the phrasing was finalizing, not accepting which I think would come later when they disburse it.

I went ahead and did the consultation (which I found very informative) because I certainly don't want to risk delaying or losing the little financial aid I would get from this school lol. Oh and the email came through my personal gmail, I haven't applied for my Drexel email yet.

They only send info about parking, but the visit is a student-led tour - very lowkey tour of the med school building and then a Q&A after the tours

Does anyone know how many update letters drexel accepts? the website says 1 letter but the portal says 4. Also, can i upload a letter of intent as an update letter even though I don't have anything significant to update (they don't have a separate one for loi)?

I think the portal suggests that you can upload 4 documents total (ie. CV, update letter, letter of rec, etc). I would highly recommend to send one update letter (maybe 2 if you have something to update about). From my experience with Drexel I don't think update letters mean much at this school. If you look at last year's thread, people who never provided an update were accepted and taken off the waitlist. Its mostly a statistics game when it comes to the waitlist in my opinion. And yes you can use a letter of intent as an update letter.

Pre-II reject just now, already committing elsewhere but just wanted to update others who might be waiting to hear!

thank you! Do you suggest that I send the letter of intent only if I am waitlisted or can I send them before receiving a post-interview decision?

If this is ABSOLUTELY the school you want to go to then yes send a letter of Intent before your decision. If it's not, you can still send an update before the decision. You would rather they have an update/letter of intent from you while making a decision on your app than risk getting waitlisted and never having your app looked at again. This is just my opinion in case someone decides to come for me lol

Just received a pre-II rejection 🙁 was never put on hold. Good luck to everyone else! This process is brutal but we’re all going to get through it<3

Is the consultation you’re referring to the loan counseling or is there something else I am missing?

Silence since mid August.
I sent 2 emails inquiring about my status, but never got a response.
When I saw that some ghosted folks got Rs today, I was almost hoping that would be me too so I could check it off the list.

Can prospective students only apply for Drexel's scholarship opportunities after acceptance?
