2021-2022 NYU (Grossman)

Dang really? Columbia over NYU? Any specific reasons why? I guess the 3 year program just puts it over the moon for me.
In terms of overall prestige and other benefits (free tuition, accelerated residency), NYU is probably the best option in the country for most applicants

I was going just based on prestige. I feel like Columbia was clearly seen as more prestigious than NYU before free tuition became a thing. The resulting bump in Scores/stats of matriculated students and win rate for cross acceptances makes it more debatable. NYU now ranks 2nd on USNWP but these rankings are not exact reflections of reality. For example, in the undergrad rankings Columbia ranks above Stanford and Yale, which I don’t think is accurate.

This is just for the sake of discussion btw. There is no material difference between Columbia or NYU in after graduation outcomes.

Just got the A!! Could not be more excited 🙂 Can’t top Poprockets’ advice above, but feel free to PM if I can answer any questions. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!
Was it an A directly from interviewing or off the hold list.

Edit: interviewed 10/05
When did you interview and congrasts as well?

Just got an email that seems like a post II hold or waitlist but the wording is somewhat confusing. Did anyone else receive something like this and/or know how active NYU is with their waitlist for admission chances? Also, huge congrats to everyone above who got the A. That is awesome!

I got an email saying that my app will be "continually reviewed", but what does this really mean? Any ideas?

does anyone know if NYU is receptive to LOIs if you receive a post II hold?
From the info session I had, it seems like LOIs are not weighted as heavily. I can't remember if the dating analogy was made where it's like you say you want to marry someone before actually getting to know them first. Someone correct this if the contrary was said by Dean Rivera please.

Wouldn’t that be pre-II letters?

I think that a letter post II is more like unrequited love.

Any estimates on what percentage of interview invites have been sent already? And what percent of As have been handed out?

For reasons outside my control (LOR), I was not complete till end of August, even though I submitted what was in my control by the end of July. Is there any realistic chance at all of getting an II, or is end of Aug just too late for here?

Does this school send out Pre-II Rs? I was complete end of July and have heard nothing... is anyone else in the same boat? I don't know if this school goes in order of complete date so any advice would help!

Same here- I am wondering whether I am at risk of getting a rejection pre-II shortly. I am basically wondering if I should go ahead and send an update/continued interest letter this week or wait until next Monday, when I will know if an abstract that I am publishing as the first author received an award or not, but I am concerned that if I wait until next week, I will have already received a rejection....

I interviewed 10/7 and I think Dean Rivera said we can expect an admissions decision within 2–3 weeks. Did any of you actually receive a decision within that time frame? I saw other people post that it took 4 weeks to hear back and I don’t want to be stressed until Friday🥵

yes they're pretty good with adhering to the time frame - A, R or continued review

Do they continue updating on a weekly basis for continued reviews or do they just give you a final decision eventually? Does anyone know?

it's the last thing we'll hear until we get an A (could be at any point) or, if not an A, in mid-January they'll either R or WL us

Just got the continued review email. Hoping for the best! Congrats to everyone who got A’s!

Edit: interviewed 10/5

did dean rivera mention how many acceptances have been sent out so far during the friday session today?
