For people lurking in this thread, I didn't get accepted until late in the cycle (interviewed aug, accepted march). I didn't get a scholarship. I subsequently was offered $$ shortly before decision day.

Granted this was all on the AMCAS cycle not TMDSAS. But -- don't give up hope if people who interviewed after you are posting acceptances / or thinking there wont be ANY scholarship money left later in cycle

Hey all. I was wondering if there’s a consensus yet on how exactly people are getting assigned campuses. By fit or stats? Is it a true lottery system? Does prematching factor in? I feel like I’ve heard different things from different people.

My guess is that if you want Temple, you will get Temple. If you want Houston, you may or may not get Houston.

Can current students/ Houston residents speak to the safety of Houston/ TMC area? I’m a Dallas native, so I’ve had my fair share of exposure to some unpleasant/ undesirable areas. That being said, Houston takes the cake (from my initial impression). During my visit to the TMC, I was taken aback by the surrounding areas. I think it’s my lack of familiarity with the area, but I felt rather uneasy driving around. Also, the drivers were extremely aggressive. Google searches unsurprisingly yield really high crime rates. Regardless, I still rank McGovern and Baylor highly. However, I am curious to hear input from people more familiar with the area than I. Any places to avoid? Recommend safety habits?

drivers are aggressive as hell, TMC is not a safe area at night. Heard stories of residents getting mugged. But if you’re smart and aware of your surroundings, you’ll be able to minimize the chances of anything happening.

Don’t be walking outside on the street alone, or going into dark alleyways. Take the shuttle or a car if you’re going to school. Travel in groups if you can. Just be aware that you’re not in the safest area and be proactively looking for threats. I’ve bounced around the TMC a whole bunch and have never had anything happen to me so. TL;DR - don’t be dumb and you’ll be fine

If I went to school here I would rent or buy a condo on the tram line and take that to and from school, & use my car for groceries/shopping.
Parking in TMC is limited and the traffic is a challenge. You have to keep your head up & be alert just like in any big city, don't walk home alone while looking at your cell phone.

Yeah I also have a bad habit of walking around with my headphones in coming back from the library late at night, but sounds like that's a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, i recieved an alert at my school of like a shooting at the TMC at 4 PM in the afternoon.

Not the type of gunner I thought I’d have to worry about lmao.

you can still go get food at midnight (Katz Deli is open 24 hours just saying). just drive and be aware of your surroundings. When driving at night in Houston I prefer to stay in the right lane even when the highway is completely empty because some random guy in a beat up, low riding Honda civic with a muffler will zoom past 6 different lanes as if he was trying to knock down a diagonal line of bowling pins.

At the same time, if you end up in temple I doubt this will be a problem.

There are sketchy areas in Houston but TMC is not one of them. However, most people dont walk around in the middle of the night since it is not a school campus but a major metropolitan area. There are two parallel roads Main and Fannin a block apart. I was showing some people around recently about 8 PM on a sunday evening and see joggers right outside the Rice campus on Main. I make a u turn onto Fannin where all the med campuses are and dont see any walkers or joggers anywhere because that is not the culture on that road. I found a recent big building addition for EnMed A&M in the area that didnt exist before (an year ago?).

The driving is aggressive in Houston for whatever reason. It is easier to change lanes without signalling because people speed up when you signal. 😀

First-time poster here, my understanding is that Baylor's internal candidate rankings post-interview will be used to essentially perform the match again but with the two campuses. During my tour of the Temple campus this was noted on one of the pre-tour slides but not discussed. If anyone has info disputing this feel free to share!

Internal rankings used for Match Day? Or are they making another rank list for people they want in Temple?

I was told that Baylor would essentially do another match in April where students would rank which campus they wanted to attend. I don't think prematched students get first dibs.

I may have misunderstood, but what I heard on interview day was that they would ask admitted students to rank which campus they wanted to attend. I didn't hear anything about them using an internal ranking system to place students. I heard this on interview day and haven't toured yet, so idk if things have changed or I misunderstood.

Anyone could be right. At interview day, I don't remember them mentioning anything about an internal ranking. Some communication from Baylor's end about this process would be incredibly helpful to allow everyone to make the most informed rank list.

It’s after the TMDSAS match, so you won’t technically know your campus designation till April.

I don't know if prematched students are those who are ranked highest by Baylor, but if they are I also think they would match their preferred campus. As it stands I believe that you can take an acceptance from Baylor, but you are not guaranteed a campus and have to go through their campus match after the cycle.

I'm just waiting for Baylor to slide me a late-stage II, seeing as they are set to lose a lot of interviewees to the Houston vs Temple fiasco. I happen to live with a guy who would take Baylor Temple in a heart beat, lol. This entire situation is wild, though. I feel for all Baylor hopefuls.

OOS applicants are eligible for an offer of admission any time after October 15th, and if you get an offer read it carefully to see when they would like your response.
If there is no stated deadline, either accept it, or keep in touch with them and follow the usual AAMC Traffic rules for narrowing down multiple offers.

I don’t dabble in predicting the future, but reporting on the present and past. Last year they wrapped up in November but this year there’s the added Temple factor, so I don’t know how that will affect the year’s rhythm.

It all depends on what dates people received today and it needs to be compared to their interview calendar to see if they are still protecting some dates.

If all dates are filled, rest of the applicants will RECEIVE a notification saying no more interview slots are available.

Can OOS students get an acceptance offer before March?

I'm wondering the same thing. I asked this question to a MS2 at the open house in October, and she said that Baylor can accept OOS applicants at any time after October 15th, but in my mind I don't know why they would until the Texas match in March when they have a better idea of what their incoming class is going to look like. So far it looks like just pre-match offers for Texas residents have been extended and not any official acceptances. Guess we'll just have to wait and see...
