Is it possible to hear back about getting taken off the waitlist sooner than may? Like some people in this thread who’ve withdrew their acceptances today, is downstate already taking people off the waitlist and notifying them?

In last years thread someone got off WL in late April but idk if that might happen this year

A bit confused by these health forms---the portal says due 5/1 but it also says we advise you to schedule an appt with your PCP in April or May lmao. Is it normal for schools you're WL at to request signed health forms this "early"? I say early bc schools I've been accepted to are requiring completion of these forms after the end of May which would make sense since CTE populates at the beginning of May. Also, no school I've been WL at has asked me to complete health forms as of yet so I'm just curious.

So, in other words, for those of us without any acceptances, we could realistically be waiting until June 24th and thereafter if that’s when the commit to enroll deadline is for other schools as well, or am I understanding this wrong
Yes that's right, except for the fact that June 24th is just MUSC's deadline. It is school-specific what actual date you have to select "Commit to Enroll". Ideally and probably in practice most people make their final decisions before that. There are also a number of deadlines that will help facilitate waitlist movement besides just Commit. One example is that MUSC requires accepted students to limit their acceptances to one on May 2nd. Another example is that the last day to have the deposit to secure your seat fully refunded is May 15. For a school like Downstate, the deposit is "only" $100, whereas at MUSC it's $450. So these types of deadlines should also cause shifting. So annoyingly complicated!!

Thank you for clarifying, would the April 30th deadline of planning to enroll also cause some movement?

So there is no April 30th deadline for "Plan to Enroll". April 30th is the day "Commit to Enroll" becomes available, however "Plan to Enroll" is still available too. If what you mean is, since "Commit to Enroll" becomes available, would there then be waitlist movement around May 1 as people are able to submit their definitive decision? Sure, I would imagine so! I couldn't even begin to speculate on the amount, as I'm just a blind, desperate pre med like all of you. 😭

For those on the alternate list, how did you access the health portal? I didn't get a SUNY email so I wasn't able to sign in.

So like

From the page:
Note: if you are having difficulty clearing health through medicat, use the forms above and submit them to [email protected] (assume its "@downstate.edu")

  • Complete parts 1, 2, 3
  • Forms should be submitted directly to Student Health Services in a single PDF. Due to the length of time to obtain an appointment with a physician, we strongly recommend that you contact your primary care physician to schedule an appointment in April/May.

Thank you! Do you also know how to submit proof of USA citizenship, official transcript, and BLS verification?

Sorry for the questions; I've messaged Downstate prior, and they haven't responded

Do we know if the AL is ranked? Surely it is if it took this long and the plan is to only accept enough to fill the class

Finally made an account after being waitlisted yesterday! I am really confused about the BLS requirement. Are we allowed to do the virtual class on the gearupwithcpr website that they gave us?

So I guess that answers the question of when’s the earliest u can expect to hear about being taken off the waitlist, hopefully there’s more movement. Do u have to do anything else besides accepting the alternate list offer to be in consideration currently, like can u hold off on those forms people were talking about?

I didn’t do any forms or anything, just accepted the AL offer

Do you guys know if anyone that interviewed in December got an acceptance in February? I am worried that because I interviewed 12/13, I might be too low on the AL to get accepted. This is the only school I have a WL on and 0 A's, I'm so scared that I cannot sleep at night

Anyone know when’s the earliest u might get off the waitlist and be notified of acceptance? Like could it potentially happen as early as April if current accepted applicants withdraw early or do they not start sorting it out until May

Someone who got the waitlist yesterday (4/3) got accepted today (4/4):
Was put on the AL yesterday, and just got an A this morning!

AL yesterday as well :/ Can someone clarify how they found out about the health forms, BLS cert, etc? Was an email sent after accepting the AL spot?

Edit: OOS, interviewed 1/5

So anyone know how to complete these health forms on Medicat? I was able to log in but the forms are just pdfs lol. Very confused by all these requirements before even knowing if I was accepted, especially paying for a BLS course?

There’s 10 in the groupme so far haha so not a good metric. And no it isn’t affiliated with admin, was just made recently by accepted applicants
Its really strange. The AL status update said the class is full but they haven't sent out that many acceptances

Do you guys think that there will be a wave of acceptances issued to waitlisted applicants after the 5 business days have passed after being placed on the waitlist?

Why 5 business days? We can expect the wave of As to happen in early May once Downstate has reliable data on how many open seats they have and how many As they can send to fill these seats.

From previous years' thread it seems 2 weeks after the big WL Wave in April , people started receiving A's. So it may be possible to see some A's being given out in 1-2 Weeks since our recent AL wave. If they aren't sent out at that time then its more likely that they will be released in the start of May.

Hi, after being put on the AL, is there any other documentation we have to complete? I keep reading about some health papers and stuff but I dont see that on my portal

Any med students here I can get in touch with? Have some questions 🙂

How was your daily schedule as an M1?

5 business days is the amount of time we have to respond to either withdraw or be placed on the waitlist, so I just assumed that they would be firing off acceptances once this period is over

Nah. If they were in a position to send acceptances, they wouldn’t need to wait any number of business days. They wouldn’t have exclusively waitlisted and would have sent As As as well. They don’t care how many people accept the WL or withdraw. They care how many people with As withdraw

Does anyone know where to upload BLS verification, official transcript, and proof of US citizenship? Do we just use the upload section of the portal and then use "additional documents" to label it? Also, what do we use as proof of US citizenship (passport, social security card??)? For the official transcripts, do we just send a copy to ourselves and then upload that since most universities have a service that sends it directly to the med school so I'm just a bit confused for this

I interviewed yesterday and still haven’t heard from the student for a peer interview. They said it takes up to 5 days for them to reach out but I’m honestly getting annoyed I just want them to start reviewing me and this student interview is holding me up. I heard from others that they reached out same day so I guess I got unlucky. Any insight would be appreciated.

It's been less than 24 hours of wait time and you're already getting annoyed at Downstate? You are in for a good time
