2022-2023 UTMB (Sealy)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know when the next round of pre-matches is coming out? (or at least what days the last rounds were) Thanks!
The last wave of prematches would be exactly one month ago tomorrow. So probably tomorrow? However, tomorrow is also one of their school tour days so I’m not sure.

Has anyone who pre-matched received a scholarship yet? I saw they should let the students know before Jan 30th.

Prematched! Interviewed 11/16
Prematch isn't binding right? I can still accept other prematches?
Yes you can accept all offers, rank all interviewed schools, and Match Day will narrow you down to 1

Do we know if they send them all at once? Or do they send them throughout the day?
#dontmindmyparanoidself
they've all been in the last 90 minutes, if a human is sending the emails out it can't be instantaneous

Are decisions still being released for today...?

Edit - Looks like that's a wrap folks. Keep holding out hope!

For those that have pre-matched, all we have to do at this time is accept the offer in the portal right?

If I got the post-interview rejection today, does that mean I still have no chance of ending up on the waitlist after match day??

That's right, unfortunately.
If they have decided to turn you down, you won't be one of the persons they rank for match day.

Does anyone have any contacts of student who have competed UTMB’s MD/MS program? Or in general info about if students like it, if they match well, if it’s worth the extra cost, etc…

The residencies always brag about how many of their matches have advanced degrees like MS or MPH or MBA. They dont care which one since they just list all as masters.

It is more like they add brownie points for the extra qualification and I would not consider being able to do an MS at UTMB vs another school gives an advantage during match, just an added value like having done research and publishing papers. There will be wide variation on how an MS helps anyone based on their chosen field, whether they are able to apply to the programs that do value the extra masters because they are more of an academic program etc.

hi everyone! quick question, i have not received a pre-II rejection yet, but i also know that jan interview spots are most likely filled because the school committee is on break now. does anyone know what the situation is?

we can't know everything, but it ain't over till it's over.
Even if they're booked up there could be some cancellations in January that would open up a slot.
One thing we have to get good at is waiting, with an application cycle over 10 months long

thank you so much!! very true! im just a little anxious that I might no longer have a chance but the suspense is killing me 🙁

Well at least I haven't received a scholarship offer yet... they said we'd hear by January 30th, so I am guessing it will be closer to that date than sooner

For those who are OOS acceptees, I was told that there are six scholarships ranging from 1K to 2.5K every year per class reserved for OOS. These will be given before Jan 30th.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that JSSOM is hosting a town hall on Jan 10th about financial aid and scholarships. I am ~speculating~ scholarship decisions would come out towards the end of that week because it seems timely. Y’all should sign up because the first one was super helpful.

In theory OOS students dont need to decide until May 1st and so there is absolutely no urgency to meet the January 30th deadline to announce these scholarships to get them to instate tuition. It is expected they will get instate tuition since UTMB has to compete with other state schools which are all making instate the default for OOS.

Sorry, to clarify, that scholarship money is additional to the in state wavier!

Does anyone have access to MyStar or is that used for a later date after the match? I read something on the UTMB website saying scholarships could be seen through there and accepted or declined.

I got a phone call that was listed as "University of Texas Medical Branch" but the phone went silent? Maybe something happened/some sort of connectivity issue? I am not sure.

Did anyone else get something similar in the past? I tried to call back but it gives me the dial tone...

Nothing here. They just called you a few minutes ago and were silent? Maybe it's for a scholarship offer (if you have been accepted). I still have no news regarding scholarships here.

Only call I got today was Steve from Medicaid benefits telling me I qualified for 0 deductible unlimited coverage insurance and asking for my social security number to verify.

How did the interview go? I'm praying great things happen for you?
It honestly when great. I’ve been on 6 interviews and I think that was my best one by far. I haven’t gotten a Prematch though unfortunately. Somewhat paradoxically I did get an A from another school that I thought the interview went much worse lol. Hoping you’re having much success.

Congratulations!!! Rooting for you. Do you mind posting your stats again?
