Hi all - I have received this email: Your application has been received by the VCU School of Medicine and will now begin the process of evaluation. A preliminary review of your credentials will determine whether or not you will be invited to complete a secondary application. Please allow 4 weeks for processing of your application. I am confused by this...did everyone receive this email and did you get a secondary invite after?
I did not. I got an invitation to a secondary the day my AMCAS was verified.

Interesting. I am seeing some people say this while others say they received this email and then a secondary or no secondary. I wonder what their reasoning is

I did. They then sent me a secondary app 20 mins after the email

I received that e-mail and then the invitation to complete a secondary 2 days later. My application is fairly non-trad and my undegrad work alone is subpar, to put it generously. Perhaps it's an initial review of your application?

I got that email right after my app was verified on AMCAS and was sent a secondary about 10 minutes later on Aug 12th

Congrats!!! Just gotta ask the usual "when were you complete?" question
I applied ED on August 1st, verified on August 12th and was sent my secondary on the 12th as well. I was marked complete right after submitting my secondary on the 15th and just got a II. I'm so happy, I only applied to one school since I did ED so if this didn't go well I would've been crushed

You got this!!! You're one step closer to getting that white coat. Keep up the amazing work! 👍

Just wondering, when you chose to apply ED did you speak with their office of admissions beforehand?
Yeah I emailed one of the assistant deans of admissions back in May before applying and set up a meeting. They basically went through all of my experiences/test scores and asked me why I wanted to apply ED. She didn't really give me a strong indicator to go ahead and apply, she was very clear that applying ED doesn't guarantee you a secondary even. She just said my stats and extracurriculars met the mark for what they were looking for and I wouldn't be screened out. I had a lot of second thoughts about applying ED, which is why I submitted so late, but I have a strong tie to VCU and it really is my top choice.

Dang that happened fast! They must really like you. Congrats, and hope your interview goes well!

Thank you!! I really think it has a lot to do with the time constraints of applying ED, since they have to make a decision by October 1st, but I really can't believe I got an invite 😅

Hi. Has anyone been marked complete and received a complete email without submitting their CASPER? I just realized I had not sent them my CASPER score....but I have complete on the portal AND a complete email. Help..... I just had the score sent RN.

So I attended a panel with the admissions team a while back and they use CASPER to determine if you should be interviewed, but they don’t count people out unless they’re in the bottom quartile or bottom 1% I think. You’re probably fine, it shouldn’t take too long for the scores to get sent to them.

For anyone else applying MD-PhD, how are you handling the first two being nearly exactly the same as primary essays.
I was wondering the same thing... does anyone happen to have any insight? I'm tempted to enter the primary essays again since they are exactly the same questions, with the same character count, and not much has changed since submitting my primary so I wouldn't have much to add anyways. Thanks!

Is VCU requiring Casper scores this cycle? I submitted my secondary on Monday and got a complete email right after, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t send any Casper scores. Would they send a complete email without receipt of the casper scores?

Hi! I did not originally send my Casper score and received a complete email. However, according to the "Secondary Invitation" email, the score is required, so I ended up forwarding it, despite the complete email. Best of luck to you this application cycle! 🙂

See my comment above. Same situation, complete email and portal marked complete but I never sent my CASPER. So it seems they sent it without recipt of the score 🥴

Does anyone (current, past) have any tips for the II - I know its MMI and have been preparing for it but I'm so anxious

I know VCU averages MCAT scores taken within 12 months of each other. I took the MCAT twice, first in 2019, and again in 2020, with 11 months in between. I am wondering if they would still average my 2019 score since its technically expired?

I think the 12 month rule only applies to valid scores.

I have an interview coming up, and I was curious if people do thank you notes afterward? I'm not sure how I'd go about this with it being an MMI with a handful of interviewers. Do I just not do one or should I send it to the dean or admissions committee email? Thanks in advance!

I'm thinking send it to the admissions email (a brief note).

I took the old version of the MCAT (out of 45) how can they average that to the new version?
Which schools are still taking the old version? I thought they only accept the new version now

I took the old version first. Then the new test. Do they average those scores? Even though they have different scales?

Are scores using the old grading system still valid, though? I thought they stopped using that scale 6 years ago, so would those scores still be considered for this cycle?

MD-PhD interviews have one day dedicated to MSTP interviews and then another day that is described as 'MD admissions'. Does anyone know if mstp applicants also do an MMI?

Anyone else complete a while ago and not heard back? I was complete on like July 19th. I'm grateful for no R, but the limbo sucks.

I‘ve been complete since 7/19 too and I haven’t heard anything since

+1 complete 7/19 and impatiently waiting 🙂 limbo sucks. I hate it here 🙂
Right and it seems like they haven't sent out many IIs or Rs recently so the suspense is building up lol

I know! I just checked the thread from last year and it seems like there most more consistent activity early on

Has anyone who has interviewed already received any kind of post-interview communication? A notice that the committee has met to review your file, a post-interview hold, etc.? I have seen that people on this thread from past years have gotten notices of this kind, but I have not heard anything from VCU since my interview on 08/31. Thanks!

The portal doesn't have the committee review, sub-committee review and what not like previous years either right? I also haven't heard of anyone getting that "Hold for possible acceptance/wait list" after interviews.

Yes this portal is definitely new for VCU. The first thing I noticed as a reapplicant
