2023-2024 Hackensack Meridian

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what department have you seen DOs/Carribeans in? Ive volunteered in HMH North and have no idea what you're talking about
Sure, you can click around the residency sites and navigate to current residents and see what I’m talking about. Or google “Hackensack current residents” to see the public pages. Hackensack residencies are super new, this isn’t surprising. This is true for uncompetitive residencies but also for the competitive ones that hide their current resident lists. On the residency explorer tool you can click through different specialties. For example in Humc anesthesia the top 3 schools represent are hmsom, St. George’s, and touro osteopathic. Humc gen surg: 40% usmd 16% DO 44% IMG. Hopefully this clears things up.

It’s just ironic to me that the school would hang their own grads out to dry as if we’re bringing down the quality of their residency programs just based on where we went to school when their residencies aren’t even all that.

Not to say that their current residents aren’t awesome, and knowledgeable, and extremely capable but just saying that this school is trying to climb rankings really desperately and it’s dumb.

Plenty of DOs and IMGs residents in the Hackensack system. But Hackensack is not hanging their own grads out to dry. Where did you get this information?

Class of 2023: 0/13 Graduates | Hackensack University Medical Center
Class of 2024: 2/10 Class of 2024: PGY-3 Residents | Hackensack University Medical Center
Class of 2025: 6/13 Class of 2025: PGY-2 Residents | Hackensack University Medical Center
Class of 2026: 5/12 Class of 2026: PGY-1 Residents | Hackensack University Medical Center

As for Anesthesiology and other competitive ones, you're also wrong. Won't even bother addressing it.
here's a screenshot I have of the post, I don't have any of the comments thoughView attachment 379969
I’m referring to this post.

There are tons of Hackensack IM programs, not just the flagship one you mentioned at HUMC. The data I provided is from AAMC, if it’s wrong you should contact them.

Uh... you're still wrong. The video linked below is less than a month old with the Dean touting the 3 year program where you do residency at Hackensack. And he says that 4th year is a throwaway year less than 3 minutes.

And given that the school is new, you really only have like 1 year of meaningful data. In 2022, there were only about 60 grads. Some did 4 years. So the number that graduated in 3 years and went to Hackensack residency was probably lower. In 2023, there were 85. Again a mixture of 3 and 4 year students. So still a small number in terms of total residents at Hackensack.

But hey, you go ahead and take that post seriously.

I’m sorry, are you a student here? I’m really confused. There are a ton of things that disqualify you from even applying to P3R. We have our own internal data given to us saying that most of the class doesn’t apply to this program, whether they don’t want to or don’t qualify. It’s something like 30% even apply and then more don’t get the spot they wanted or change their mind and decide to apply in the regular match next year.

85% OOS interview conversion rate, who knows why they're taking so long...like what's the hold up if you admit nearly everyone

Have you guys sent letters of interest post-interview? How long have you been waiting on decisions?

My interviewer told me I’d hear back in Dec. so idk what’s going on
just want to vent to say I'm a little frustrated with the lack of transparency of when we'll hear back post interview. All of my other interviews have given a straightforward timeline

I've been reading through the threads from previous years and this seems like the norm. Most people didn't even receive any rejections until the very end of the cycle regardless of getting interviews.

seems like a lot of people might end up in the R or WL pool which is odd considering the II to A conversion rate here. Hoping for the best for all of us

This year might be different from previous years given the fact that the school is now accredited and ranked by USN. They might be more selective with whom they accept because their yield rate might be higher. Previous years, people probably would have gone to more established schools if they had multiple acceptances.

The cycle will probably still be slow and will stretch till the bitter end.

that's understandable and all maybe, but the lack of transparency and communication is kinda shameful

understandable but since they were just recently accredited, they still need to time to establish a solid reputation hopefully

Post II Rejected… IS

Had 2 interviews, one in november and second in december, thought they went well.

My cycle’s basically over. Only interview I had, and I’m a reapplicant. MCAT (517) from 2021 so I’m gonna have to retake or just give up

Honestly just shocked I didn’t even get WL, just no chance

wow, this makes me really nervous now. I interviewed around mid-Oct. but has been silence since then. I also sent in a few significant updates after my interview so I hope that does something to move the needle 🙏

Called today to ask if my update letters were added to my file and if they were reviewed yet and the person I spoke to basically said they’re super inundated with a lot of apps this year and most likely update letters will be reviewed near the end of the cycle so….
