2023-2024 Pittsburgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do we get to know who our interviewers are before the interview? Also, is it fully open-file?

Someone on reddit posted something about getting an A to Pitt yesterday. Super weird...ED maybe?

I saw that too. They also claimed to have an A to their in-state school which shouldn't be possible if they were ED. They didn't respond to any of the comments for clarification and then deleted the post so something was fishy. I doubt they had the A to Pitt, maybe they interviewed and are hoping for an A and wanted input in advance but didn't tell the whole story.

ps to my other R people, did anyone else hate the email? it was so wordy! i had to read it twice to find the “R”
Hated it because it’s my dream school, but I think the email was fine, in my opinion. Lengthy, yes, but they wanted to be sensitive.

As someone who has received many rejection letters and emails in my life (former dancer, auditioned for many things every year) i think it’s best to be upfront first sensitive later:

dear _,
We regret to inform you we will be unable to offer you an interview at this time. *sensitive stuff*

how was everyones interview experience? this is my top school so super nervous!! would appreciate any insight

At every 1:1 interview they stressed about how chill and conversational it will be. Everyone was super nice. I was only asked 3-4 questions each (both 30 min) and based on people I’ve talked I felt like every candidate got asked diff questions depending on your interviewer and what they wanted to learn about you. I personally wasn’t asked much about my app (got a lot of “tell me about a time you blablabla questions”) but you may have interviewers that wanna know about your activities and research more in depth

For anyone who has applied for the PSTP: Does it impact your decision for the medical school at all? Can you actually get into both programs, or if you get into PSTP is it less likely you'll get into the medical school? Thank you!

I believe they said in the info session that the application processes for both are independent, but you obviously can't do PSTP without being admitted to the medical school

During the info session they said that PSTP can pull you off the regular waitlist. So they choose between the As and the WLs. Otherwise the applicantion is independent

I know a medical student who was waitlisted for the medical school and got in off the waitlist BECAUSE they were accepted to the PTSP. If you end up waitlisted and get into the PTSP, your chances of getting into the medical school are actually increased. Don’t think it can hurt you at all to apply, it’ll only help.

does anyone know if Pitt tracks thank you notes? I know some schools will say they don’t track them for admissions purposes but I can’t find info abt Pitt specifically and I forgot to ask during my interview

They added them to my portal so I believe they do

Oh no, why didn’t they add mine to the portal? Should I contact them or it’s not a big deal?
I sent mine by email as a PDF (to forward to my interviewers), maybe that's why? I highly doubt it makes a big difference, if at all

I just checked mine, I sent individually to my interviews and looks like the student uploaded hers but the faculty didn’t so it seems random. Didn’t get a reply from either though

FWIW, I didn't send thank-you notes lol. I do wonder how much Pitt cares about them though.

I hope everyone's cycles are going well.
Does anyone know if Pitt is done sending out interviews?
Also, does Pitt send out II and rejections based on time of application submission? I applied end of June and haven't heard anything but I'm seeing people who got either an II or R around then and after that.
Good luck to all, we got this 👍

Its based on the time you submitted your secondary application.

I heard that the current M1s have Monday - Friday mandatory classes starting at 8 am and ending at 12 pm. Someone said the students have to be physically present on campus during that time. Does anyone know how true this is? I can’t find anything explaining it on their website.
