2024-2025 Texas Tech Lubbock

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It is indeed due by the 2-week deadline. They e-mailed me saying that they would rescind their offer by EOD if I didn't pay the fee
Thanks for the update @BrickLayer I will correct my post.

Only 4 of the TMDSAS schools ask for a deposit to hold an offered seat:
Texas Tech Lubbock $100
Texas Tech El Paso $100
U H Fertitta $100
Baylor $300
I don't know the due date for the other 3 schools, so please read any email with an offer of admission line by line to not miss important dates.
Some of those due dates might be after Match Day.

Good evening my little pre meds. I have caught up with my studying for the first time since medical school started back in July. That is until I do a semesters worth of genetics tomorrow, but I digress.

My name is Howdie, but you can call me Howdie. I’m a first year here at Tech and I wanted to stop by and provide some words of encouragement to all those participating in this year’s app cycle.

To those who have gotten a pre-match, congratulations! You worked so very hard to get here and you should be proud of yourself. I know many of you are still receiving interviews and hoping to pre-match elsewhere, but do me a favor and enjoy this. Once you start med school you won’t have time to eat, speak, or even think. So, take some time to yourself and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Read a fun novel, go travel, spent time with friends, family, or your pet. Do something that you genuinely enjoy before it’s time to buckle in, trust me.

To those who haven’t even gotten as much as a sniff from a Texas school, relax and take a breath. I didn’t receive my Tech interview until mid December, and it was the only Texas school I got (even TCOM and SHSU rejected me). I know you’re itching to know my stats and I guess I’ll share because I know how it feels to be in your shoes: 3.4, 509, and a 1st quartile CASPer. Think I should’ve tried Harvard, maybe Hopkins? I probably would have had better luck there. Needless to say, if I got in, you can too. Just be patient, and if it doesn’t happen this cycle, don’t give up, and try again next year (it took me 3 cycles, shocker, I know). Tech isn’t a one size fits all school. I know people with 515s and 504s, no research and 6 pubs, 4.0s and 3.4s (hey that’s me! 😀). Don’t panic too much about your app, it does no good now. What is it, October? November? I’ve lost track of time. Anywho, I remember refreshing SDN 60-70 times a day and checking my email just as much, praying for a sliver of hope. There’s still plenty of time left in this cycle so hold your horses partner. I’m confident that each of you will become a doctor one day.

Reach out to me if you must, I won’t be bothered and I’m happy to answer questions you may have. It may be 2036 by the time I reply, but I’ll do my best. Is Wysdoc’s reply above me? Tell Wysdoc I said hi when you get a chance. Okay enough rambling, it’s time to listen to some Debussy before I snooze.

Godspeed guys. Remember, heads up, focus on becoming the best version of yourself, and don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.

Goodnight y’all
(P.S. I ain’t proofreadin’ that)

IS A today!!

It's kinda odd, the school hasn't appeared on my TMDSAS portal as an option to rank nor does it pop-up or have any mention of a pre-match offer anywhere. Is this normal? I double-checked my application and I am considered to be a Texas resident per TMDSAS.

Probably they need more time to catch up from their IT outage. If it hasn’t shown up in another 2 weeks email them and ask them to update their portal so you can rank them

That makes sense, thank you!

And just to confirm, if I accept the offer and pay the deposit it's non-conditional correct?

If you are a Texan you can accept and hold all offers you like, until the Match
If you are OOS accept your first offer, then wait for more possible offers and narrow them down in April.
Accepting is not binding at this point

After multiple attempts, I just got my first MD A! Never thought I would get in, haha. Thanks everyone for your advice!!!!
Congratulations! What do you think made the difference this time around?

To be frank, experience and maturity. During previous applications, I did not have experience working with patients directly. I was fortunate to find a job as a medical assistant where I learned how to genuinely connect with people and have conversations that did not feel stressed. I learned how to comfort people and have tough conversations. Whether it was from a doctor or co-worker, I learned how to take feedback and grow properly. I mention these experiences because I felt those skills significantly transferred to my interviews. Now, when I look back on previous applications, I think, 'No wonder they thought I wasn't ready,' lol.

Undoubtedly, another huge factor is that I learned how to use TMDSAS and the system. I didn't have anyone to teach me or know what questions to ask. This cycle, I applied the first-day TMDSAS opened with my MCAT and CASPER scores ready and started writing my secondaries early so I could turn them around quickly.

Ultimately, my application didn't change except for a few clinical hours. I feel like the difference was in my interviews. It was my last time applying, so I went in as authentically myself. I think I was just a different applicant than my previous attempts.

did you apply to other app services this cycle? (amcas, do, etc)

I did not feel like I got as much bang for my buck through AMCAS since I am a Texas resident. I prioritized TMDSAS and AACOMAS for this cycle. Leaning more towards DO programs in regard to the ratio of MD/DO. These are just personal preferences though, I know several people who have had great results focusing on AMCAS as well.

Do the interviewers have access to MCAT and GPA? I know it’s an open interview but some schools don’t have access to these things

I don't know for certain about this school, but a good way to go into your interview day is to think, "My numbers were good enough to bring me to this interview, now they want to meet me and see how I communicate and how I can explain my ideas"
The numbers? those are the numbers, you don't need any extra prep for that

They told me they don't have access to MCAT and GPA, but they do have access to the rest of your primary and secondary. Good luck with your interview! They are by far the best and nicest people I have interviewed. Be yourself and you'll do great!

Anyone know if there will be any more II sent out? Looks like they haven't sent anything in the past 3 weeks

Last year interviews went out till the beginning of January. Certainly not a promise, but I suspect that there will be several more dates offered.

Howdy. Interviewed on the 20th and the [School preference rank] has not appeared. How long does it normally take for this option to populate on my dashboard? Thank you!

Someone at the Lubbock admissions office has to manually update their side of the portal person by person after interview days to reflect that you have interviewed.
If you don't see it show up in another 3 weeks, email their office to ask them to update it for you so you can rank them for Match.

Has anyone received an interview that submitted their secondary in September or later?
It's been really, really quiet on the Western front, surprisingly, with a whole month of silence (at least from the ppl on the SDN forum).
To answer your question, I submitted my secondary on September 7, and was invited to interview 10/30. I don't have any West TX ties.

dude it's incredibly quiet, i know they're not too pre-match heavy but the waiting has been brutal.

I interviewed on 11/6 and its still not on my TMDSAS btw.

How did people who complete an Interview prep? This is my first non-MMI interview
Familiarize yourself thoroughly with your application so you can discuss any part of it confidently. Use Tech's core values to create mock interview questions. For example, I think one of the values is collaboration. You can use ChatGPT to generate sample medical school interview questions focused on collaboration. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much, yeah this longer form throws me off because all the ones I’ve had have been 6-8 minutes answering a specific question or scenario and trying to prep proficiently

Anyone here gonna be at preview day this weekend? Hope to see alot of y'all if so!
