Can I also ask a stupid question. How does one rent a car without a credit card?
Can I ask how you book the flight from STL to Kirks? I couldnt find it on Orbitz or the major travel sites.

You may be able to rent one with cash at the airport. I've rented two cars before and both were through travel websites so I had to use a credit card.
I doubt they'll take cash.. CC is easier for them to incur extra charges on.

If you fly into Kriksville, are there ample public transportation options to the school? Is it expensive?
Should I just call KCOM about this instead?
All the info is on there website - don't bug them for something like this. This page has lodging, transportation, restaurants, etc.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but does anyone have any insight about how decent the area hotels are? From the KCOM website it looks like prices range from $45-90 so I was just wondering what my best option would be since they're all fairly similar in price. I'm driving, so transport is not an issue.
A current student recommended Holiday Inn Express when I asked her.
Most of the chain ones are on the south side of town (Days Inn, Holiday Inn, ect...). I see you are from Iowa, are you from Des Moines by chance? If so I just drove the morning of my interview, granted I left at 4 or so but its really not that bad, and you are ready for your interview when you get there.

A hotel is a hotel. Holiday Inn Express is fine, and I think the Super 8 is fine.
Thanks, but I would prefer one that is clean and has no bed bugs 😀 The reviews online are awful, even for the HI Express. Oh well. Driving down that morning is looking more and more appealing now......
I have an interview here and AZCOM. AZCOM is first, with KCOM in mid november. Can anyone comment on the availability of running paths and safe roads to run on in Kirksville? I've run 5 - 26.2 mile marathons and intend to continue running in Medical school, so its somewhat important to me, although if the only school i was accepted at didn't have good running areas, I'd OBVIOUSLY still go.
Can anyone run an up to date comparison between AZCOM and KCOM? I've heard positive things about both. What are the 3rd year clinicals like for KCOM?
If you haven't yet applied to medical school you might not be aware of the progression some people's mindset (mine included) go through as they get deeper into the cycle. Here's a brief outline of my own experience.
April/May: I'm going to apply everywhere because med school is going to cost me $250k+ so what's $10k more in applications? I don't care where I go.. I just want to get in somewhere and I'll apply everywhere that my stats are halfway decent for.
June: Man those primaries were expensive, but it doesn't matter now. I've already applied so I might as well pre-write all my secondaries just in case.
July: Wow, some of the schools I submitted my primary to are actually pretty undesirable and/or have requirements that I don't meet.. I guess I'll save $200-$300 and not bother submitting the secondary.
August: So lazy.. why couldn't this school send me the secondary last month? Interviews are super expensive.. I'll pass on these secondaries so I can save the money for interview expenses.
So you see, as you get further along you become lazy and more picky (at least I did) about where you want to go even though in the beginning you didn't care and would go anywhere.. even the arctic circle.

Wow five marathons...that is impressive! I just started one of the online training programs for the Walt Disney World Marathon in January...it will be my first one to ever run
First II a few days ago 🙂 !!!
Anybody else interviewing on the 19th of November?
November 16th!
Tentatively planning on Taking Amtrak from Richmond to BWI and flying to Kirksville... probably staying in a cheapo hotel... its just a med school interview... 😛

So does KCOM put people on hold without telling them? I'm a reapplicant and last year, when I was rejected at the end of the cycle, I was simultaneously told I was put on hold for the year. If I haven't heard from them since the beginning July, should I just assume an "on-hold" status? I wish all schools did this stuff the same 🙁
Call admissions and see if you can sneak a hint out of them. As for Worldchanger you could still keep on them, don't be too annoying though. So does KCOM put people on hold without telling them? I am going to say I think so... I have contacted this school twice. The first time they told me I have nothing to worry about and I will here back next week, I didn't. The second time they told me I am still under review and that my stats are good and I have nothing to worry about and I should here back from them next week and again, I didn't. I think there is a trend of not giving away any information so if you were on hold why would they tell you? When you have something to update them with send it in and I bet they will send out the II.

Got the hold letter today. Never fun but excited about some of the other schools I've heard good news from. Congrats on the ii for those of you at that point!
I just received the "file on hold" letter in the mail.....do the people on these hold lists typically see any action during the cycle or is it rare for there to be any movement within the pile of candidates that are on hold?😕Ok so if I am on hold looks like I should expect an official letter. Guess I'm still in limbo 🙁

Kind of what I figured. Did you update your file with any new stuff you were doing during the cycle with the schools that put you on hold...Or did you just wait it out to see what happened? It probably depends on the school, but I'm going to assume from what I've read it usually is a delayed rejection. If it puts anything into perspective, I'm a reapplicant and was put on hold at 6 different schools last year (none turned into interviews). Not to bring you down, but just being honest 😳 you never know though, kenobi!![]()

So I have been looking through this forum and don't see anything in regards to the interview itself. Can anyone who has interviewed, or heard, say some details in regards to the interview? One-on-one vs. group? questions?? Open file vs. closed file? How long is interview day? I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!
Last year when I interviewed it was one on one interviews. There were three of them. Overall, it wasn't too bad. Pretty laid back which seems to be a popular format.
Do remember for all your interviews that laid back interviews are typically harder than the intense ones. Typically interviewers get alot of information from the interviewees because they are overly relaxed.
KCOM also is open file and they'll ask you about certain aspects of your file. I believe they'll generally ask about any inconsistencies as well.
I believe the general format for interviews is two interviewers that are faculty/clinicians and one interview from the admissions department.
Make sure you are honest, because if they ask a similar question between multiple interviewers and you answer differently... yea...
How so?Thanks a millon. This is definitely helpful compared to everything else I've read. I think it's really interesting you pointed out that relaxed interviews are harder. I wish I would have known this earlier - my ACOM interview yesterday was pretty relaxed and I definitely think it could have gone better, so disappointed =/ but we will see what happens.
How so?
I just got an interview invitation, can't tell you how excited I am!
Is anyone scheduled pretty soon? Any thoughts from those that interviewed already?
Thanks!
