Full Tuition: Duke vs UMich

hey -
so my friend is in this situation - I was talking to him about it and wanted to get some other opinions from prospective sutdents who visited both schools. I'd like to show this to him.

I have interviewed at both, and I like Duke more. I like Duke's condensed curriculum and I think it gives you a great chance to conduct research or do whatever you want to strengthen your residency app.

i like duke's curriculum. if your friend has some money in the bank already and can be frugal through the 4 years, he should be able to pay for his living expenses and have no debt if he does a paid research year 3rd year (at a relatively cheap location)

Then it is easy. Go with Duke. It is slightly more prestigious. Durham is also warmer. That to me is a huge plus. My impression is that the student body at both institutions will be quite similar, so I expect he/she will fit right in.

Also Duke's curriculum, and having an extra year to pursue scholarly research will be an incredible opportunity. Good luck choosing. You can't go wrong. But if it were me, I would go with Duke no questions asked.

I think these 2 schools are equally prestigiuous. Ok, at least for me.

Both are great schools, they'll get your friend to wherever he or she wants to go in the future.

I would go with Duke b/c of their third year and location. I view them as both being equally prestigious.

UMich also pwns in the hockey dept....tho Duke doesn't do D1 hockey.

I had the same choice (minus full rides)...Michigan gets it. You can't beat the sense of family this place gives off. Michigan loves it's students and it's students love Michigan. Tell your friend to pick were he'll be happiest on the day-to-day. It might as well come down to that since both schools will definitely take him where he wants to go career-wise.
