Marian University (MU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Maybe I missed it, which is weird because I'm the one that asked about tuition! Lol but I'm not doubting you - he definitely could have said somthing like that. Ah well, we will see I guess! 😳

Yeah I remember you asking that question, but feel like I do remember something about him saying they are working on reducing that cost a little. He also said tuition could increase over the next few years also, so I guess we'll see.

Which one were u?!

Any hotel recommendations?

For the MMI, does the interviewer ask follow up questions after you propose your initial thoughts? Do most people use personal examples (ie, things you have learned from past experiences) to back up their ideas?

I stayed at the Candlewood Suites. It is close to downtown, but also close to Marian. When you book the room mention that you are there for an interview at Marian and they will give a special rate. They have a shuttle that will take you anywhere in a 5 mile radius for free which runs basically every hour. Makes it convienient to get into downtown or to Marian (if you time it right for your interview).

Most of the interviewers will prompt you with questions or thoughts after your initial response...however if you wanted to just keep talking then they would sit and listen until you finished. Some interviewers can be conversational while others seem to have discrete questions they want you to answer.

I do not know what most people do, but I feel that if you can use personal examples within your response it will strengthen the point you are expressing. Only you can judge whether it would be appropriate to use personal experiences for each unique prompt that you might receive on interview day.

Hope this helped. Good luck.

Thanks to those who have described the interview day! Mine is on Friday and I'm so excited now!

So I scheduled an interview for mid Novmeber.. it was the earliest date at the time. I know you can only switch your date once. I really want to get an earlier interview date, has anyone tried and been successful at this? I can no longer see the available dates so I assume I would have to call in to admissions and ask for newly opened dates/cancellations?

I called in and asked if there were any earlier dates; it seems like there are only dates mid-november and after. I am scheduled for mid november also.

Hey thanks for the footwork, did you ask if you can call in and bug about cancellations if they open up?

I actually did not ask that, but i am pretty sure you could. I just think it is highly unlikely something may open up so soon.

Hey everyone,

just wanted an opinion... i submitted a few weeks ago and just got my MCAT score today and got a 26Q.. I have great ECs, volunteering, shadowing, GPA and a masters... what do you think my chances are of gettin an II?

I don't think that will hurt your chances if you have a stellar application. My mcat was similar and I interviewed first day. Good luck!

Apparently at Virginia Tech you read a card and then enter the interview room after 2 minutes. Is this set up similar? If so, is there any time to jot down a few notes in a small notebook?

Something like that.., I didn't have time to take notes.

+1 I didn't take notes and if I did probably wouldn't of had time to put something substantial down. You could try but I almost guarantee you would stop doing it after a station or two.

I just keep hoping they will just send out our status now haha. This place is where I wanna end up!

Hahahaha I know right?! Like "surprise we told u 7 days but it's really 5! U are accepted!"

That would be neat 😀

Yes, that would be great!

I just got another II but Marian is my #1.

Hey, idk if this has been asked (I did do a thread search) but has anyone gotten a hold of anyone in the admissions office, e.g. Kelly Early? It always goes to voicemail... and I have been waiting a long time for a call back... Thanks

I applied here but have yet to submit the $100 secondary for financial reasons...I got a call from the admissions office yesterday, they left a message, asking if I was still interested and planning on applying.

Just wondering if this was standard and if anyone else got a call?

Late on this, but I did get a similar phone call in case you were still wondering

Emailing Kelly is much more efficient. I also believe they are meeting today for the first interview group.

I called several times and it always went to voicemail....I finally left a message saying I had a few questions and she called me back less than an hour later.

Not saying this surprises me, but I didn't get a response by voicemail. I do know that Kelly is extremely busy, as she is one of the main people dealing with applications. Almost every time I've e-mailed her I've gotten a response in less than an hour.

Decisions tomorrow!!!! Nervous!!!

+infinity... I know it was supposed to come out this Friday, but throughout the week I've probably checked e-mail and the portal around 100 times. sad I know.

Uh oh.....bad news for me? 🙁 congrats guys!

Give it some time, I wasn't going to say anything just in case some people were called tomorrow.

Do u think they call no matter what? I wonder if thy call for rejections...that'd be brutal!

And congrats 🙂 r u still gonna go to ur LMU interview?

🙂 very very happy to get the call from Marian earlier today!!

I don't usually post my acceptances, but this one might end my season. What an awesome school! So so happy to be in here! Can't waist to see and meet my future classmates!!

And for those still waiting, I'd say be patient, but I know I wouldn't be...so good luck, I'm sure your call is coming!!

They may still call tomorrow for acceptances, keep hope alive. No use getting upset for nothing, just hold tight!

Def not, I'm withdrawing from lmu interview, too expensive to waste my time and theirs.

I know. It's easier than getting my hopes up though lol

And definitely congrats then - must be awesome to know where u will for sure be next year! 👍 🙂

I know it's tough to wait, but really, watch some shows, eat some ice cream and try not to worry too much.

It's really nice that they get back with us so quickly, but they have a lot of phone calls to make, so just know it could take the next couple of days. Maybe it will take this whole week...but you'll soon know and that's a comforting thing🙂

Now, go find a kitten to dangle a string over...no freaking out!! 😉

Hahahahahaha u couldn't have said it better. Currently watching the X Factor with my cat 🙄

That's true they do need to make a lot more. Do u know the answer to my question above - do they only call acceptances? Or are all 42 people from last weekend going to get a call with their status? :scared:

They weren't sure at the time we interviewed how they were going to announce it, but they were very certain that everyone would know within two weeks where they stood. Accept, reject or hold. I can see them emailing rejected or hold applicants, but the main thing is you'll know soon.

Some schools gave an almost 2 month timeline, so be glad you are almost there! I wish you luck and hope you get a call soon!! But again, don't worry because it could take the next few days to get to everyone so don't assume anything, they will be in contact soon!!

And maybe go out and get a laser pointer for you cat...time flies when you're watching your cat jump all over the place for a little red dot.

Congrats guys! Did they happen to mention how much the seat deposit was? Do they follow AACOMAS traffic guidelines? Thanks!

Yes... 1000 due in December and another 2000 in April I think.

I'm excited and nervous about it being a new school... The connections with hospitals look great, what do you guys think after the interview?

Those of you who are already accepted, do you recommend brushing up on any issues for the interview? Like do you need any prior knowledge to do well for each station?
